  1. I never see anyone refer to the Gene Larew Pig Head Jig: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Gene_Larew_Ned_Rig_Pighead_Jig_Head_4pk/descpage-GLHJ.html I like to fish docks and I find that there is a noticeable difference in the ease of skipping these vs other head designs. It is mostly snag free around docks as long as you don't try to fish over vertical cross bars. I haven't really found any other ned heads that are more weedless and also skip this easy. My only dislike is the build quality. I immediately cut off the keeper and just use glue. After you have beat it against a few docks the weight on the jig head gets loose and the hook can swing side to side just a little. Doesn't really affect anything, but doesn't scream quality.
  2. Bruises heal.... memories are forever!
  3. I had zero issues with a pedal kayak and a Raymarine Element. I don't see why you would have any issue while paddling other than a little possible interference from the paddle strokes.
  4. In general terms you are absolutely correct. That doesn't mean that there aren't some benefits to a longer term for people who are diligent and consistent in following a plan. Depending on interest rates, it might make sense to get a 15 yr loan but pay the payments as if it's a 5-7 year loan. At least in this scenario you have the option to pay a lower payment when needed if there is an emergency, etc. With that said... there aren't alot of people out there with the self control to pay the higher payment on a consistent basis.
  5. I just posted to give this forum credit. On any other board this would have turned into a civil war. The answers to this question will be as varied as "What is the best lure" and many people on each side are adamant about their beliefs. I don't typically keep bass, mainly because I'm too lazy to have to clean them once I'm home and tired from fishing. If I'm hungry for fish.... I have no problem keeping a couple, unless it's the spawn and I caught them shallow. Having started back fishing in kayaks... I'm fine with catch, photo, release. I'm new to lake fishing (always fished the intercoastal waterway as a kid) so next year I plan to learn alot more about crappie fishing to get some good eating fish.
  6. Well... one of the things I learned in college is that I really like Chef Boyardee spaghetti straight from the can.. I typically carry some waters with propel powders, a diet coke or 2, and a sandwich or can of spaghetti. I always keep Payday bars in the boat and golf bag. Great protein and they don't melt in the sun. Excellent for an energy boost with no crash. That's of course if I'm fishing all day. I don't fish while I'm eating. I like to find a nice shady spot back in a cove and sit down and relax while I absorb nature.
  7. I have a two 5 year olds and a 7 year old. Their attention span is about 5 minutes with a cork and line unless they catch something immediately. I have had the best success with a spinning rod and an underspin spinning reel. Throw on a booyah pond magic or a beetle spin and let them cast and cast to their hearts content. Don't plan on a long trip and have another activity planned for when they are done. Teaching them that young is alot of setup to make sure they are safe and a short time fishing.
  8. It would be amazing if I were that organized while trying to work from home and take care of 3 kids while the wife works from home as well (not a good combination). There are a lot of little things that I would normally run to the store for, but at the moment we still limit those runs to necessities. It is what it is. In the end.. I'm sure TW will appreciate the extra business and I'm ok with waiting the extra lead times. I understand that one! I normally have all my orders go to my office and then they move to the house as needed in one bunch. We are able to keep our office open by swapping out who is there, so we decided no packages for the moment to limit interaction. Not sure my wife likes the amount of Amazon and TW boxes that show up at home. 8-)
  9. Just keep using it for a bit. So much of what we do and like as fishermen is based on feel. With braid you will feel the movement every time line goes in or out of your rod. With FC it's smooth so you don't get that sensation. I was used to smooth lines the first time I tried braid. I almost threw it out because it felt to me like I was running sandpaper through my guides. It's not really that you have that much less control. It's just that you are used to feeling the movement of the line while fighting a fish. It just takes a bit to get used to the quiet.
  10. Not to mention, there are so many of us stuck at home we are probably ordering more tackle than usual. I know I've put in 3or 4 orders in the past few weeks because I spend too much time here and keep seeing something that sparks my interest.
  11. Sounds about like me trying to take my 6 and 7 yr olds fishing! Seriously though. Take it from someone who lost my dad at 16 and my mom in my late 20's.... you never get this time back. There will be a time when you look back and this will be one of your fondest memories. Cherish every moment you get because it can end in an instant. If you can... get someone else to show them what to do. Seriously... family just won't listen to instruction from you. You would be amazed how quick they will listen to someone else.. even if you were telling them the exact same thing. Maybe some youtube videos?
  12. The wedge systems are much better than nothing because they reduce the stress on the hydraulic system and stop the motor from bouncing up and down, which reduces some stress on the transom. However, the transom is still seeing torsional stress from the motor while it is up. A traditional transom saver would stop both the hydraulic stress and torsional stress, because it transfers most of the torsional stress to the trailer.
  13. Sort of. SC closed all state parks and DNR lakes. They also closed public boat ramps. All public waters are still open for fishing, you just need to use a private landing to launch or already have it at your own dock. There are still tons of boaters on Lake Greenwood. They are just using private ramps that are pay for use. Thankfully, our neighborhood has a private ramp, so I'm good to go.
  14. I skip alot of docks with my Ned rigs, so a ned jig without a weed guard is almost useless to me. If you skip over any sort of horizontal/angled brace... it's almost guaranteed to hang. Right now the Gene Larew Ned Pighead Jig is my go to. From a fishability standpoint it is great. The head design skips like a dream and the weed guard holds up great. Not sure what it's made of but it doesn't get bent out of shape. I never realized just how good these jig heads skip until I went back to the normal mushroom heads and casts were barely making it to the dock that usually went way under. The down side to these jigs is the build quality is crap. The jig head will start to wobble on the hook fairly quickly (never comes off though) and the keeper is junk. First thing I do is clip off the keeper with pliers and use a dab of gel super glue to fix my zman plastics in place.
  15. I saw the same video. Actually what he said is that people try to cut the tag end real close to the knot. He said leave a little room so that it doesn't come loose if it slips. He didn't say not to cut the tag end short... just not try to cut it right at the knot. I think he said leave about 1/8" but I'm not sure.
