  1. My goto on my favorite local lake. I've taken nice fish pulling through heavy vegetation.
  2. Welcome! 5 days a week... I am seriously jealous.
  3. It happens... need to bring a comparable rod with me to leave in the car in the future. I was really more upset over the lost fishing time. The gear is replaceable. Time is not... ?
  4. Funny ... I got back into fishing this year and the first bass I land is on a Spinner. 5 pounder. Worst thing that could have happened.... Haven't been able to land one on a Spinner since. I went with mastering plastics and do best with T-rigged worms and Rage Tails. I need to dedicate time to spinners....
  5. Yup... the hares part ... lol...
  6. Is This continuing? I did lots of fundraising for Wounded vet charity as an endurance athlete. I would be interested in this project.
  7. Been thinking about getting a bait caster but I'm mainly a bank fisherman. Not sure if it's worth it. Spinning reels seem more versatile. Thoughts?
  8. ...and sometimes you're the hydrant... Had a nice morning fishing a local with a buddy. We reach a spot and start casting. He's on A power worm. And I'm on a rage tail. I cast out and pull a 3 pounder. We switch places and he hits a decent fish who jumps and spits out the hook. We fish the spot a little while longer and decide to walk further down the bank. Jus to mess with him i cast over that same spot again and wham! Another 3 pounder. He was ticked. He definitely contemplated tossing me in... Too funny!
  9. Thanks for all the encouragement guys. I really want to thank everyone here at Bass resource for all the help and advice. I've been away from fishing for some years and just recently got back. I was never much of a bass fisherman. More trout, Pickerel, crappie etc... I decided I really want to go after America's freshwater game fish king. So I started asking questions here, checking out the articles and videos and working the craft. I am quite frankly stunned and overjoyed at the results I have been getting. My passion for fishing has reignited and just wanted to thank you all for the help and encouragement... Tight lines... Eric J
  10. I get skunked... but I am usually out for big bass and I avg 2 pounders with so.e 4 and 5 hawgs in there. The tough days are when I start jumping from one lure to the next or stubbornly stick to the same area. As primarily a bank angler it can. Be tough. Recently I landed a PB simply by moving to a back pond near the end of my day.
  11. I know tubes are good for structure, rocks gravel etc... but does anyone use them for softer bottoms with heavy vegetation?
  12. Great thanks... here's the link... https://postimg.cc/image/i9rk4r38z/
  13. Large... I have a pic but need to figure out how to resize it for these forums. I keep getting the "nothing larger than..." warning... ?
  14. I posted this earlier... I did go out and caught my new PB. 7.2 pounds. An amazing fight. Awesome evening.
  15. I posted my catch in another topic... Long story short; PERSONAL BEST 7lb 2oz!!!! I guess the time was just right... Eric J
  16. Hazy morning fog and stained low visibility water met me at 6am. I was out for a few hours and nothing was biting. I worked a Magnum Rage, a dark chatter but nothing. I rigged up a wacky and scored a dink of a smallie. I stopped by another local lake and met a fishing acquaintance who had just landed a monster on first cast and was heading out on the kayak. I spent a fruitless 45 minutes striking out. Spent the afternoon busy with chores and a choice cigar. Decided to clean the tackle pack and started feeling antsy. I couldn't shake the notion that me and that lake had unfinished business. 4:30 and there I was back at the same spot I fished this am. I start working a creature bait getting increasingly annoyed at a gaggle of High School girls running amuck. One decides to jump into the water off the dock right where I am fishing. Illegal and outrageously obnoxious. Not a great start. I fish for a couple hours, see my angler buddy again who tells me the lunker from the morning was it for him. We talk while he loads his kayak onto his truck and say our goodbyes and good luck. I had at this point gone to a T-Rig worm but still nothing. I decide to leave but want to hit the back pond inlet just in case... Two little girls are quietly laughing on the bench near the bank. They ask if I'm going to catch a fish, and I reply that I'm going to try... I generally start off casting while steadying myself on two rocks that peak out of the muddy soil. The paddies are lush and tall but plenty of open space to place a lure. My first cast is pinpoint accurate. I slowly reel in navigating the vegetation while keeping an eye on the line for lateral movement. Once the lure is clear of the water I decide to cover some water and cast about 6 feet to the left of my first cast. I don't get through 4 revolutions when I feel that soft... so soft.... tug. My eyes zero in on the line looking for movement. Is that a fish? Am I just tugging vegetation? I want to to soft snap the rod but don't want to jump the gun here... I let the line go slack... just a bit... then a small tug and the line starts to move left... I hard set and BANG! Fish on!!! I carelessly let my rod go slack after the set allowing the fish to jump. I see him, shining, glistening as the failing sun lights up his scales and the water droplets spraying in all directions. HE IS BIG. The two small girls jump up on the bench squealing with excitement. I have an audience... I start to reel in furiously. It was a long cast and there are too many places for him to run and wrap me up. My rod is full on bent, I lower it to keep him down. He fights hard taking me to the layover and bush to my left. I need to get closer to the water to pull him out. I step forward stretching out as my feet sink into ankle high mud. He renews efforts pitching hard to my right trying desperately to push into the reeds and high plants more akin to a U Boat on a mission than a Bass looking to hide. I adjust the drag on the fly and know that I can't reel in any farther. Instead I reach out, stretching just a little bit more.... I manhandle the rod to pull him back in and drag him into the shallowest water, half on the mud so that I can grab him. Big... he was big, and heavy. His teeth tore up my thumb like fresh coarse sandpaper. Both hunter and hunted look at each other, exhausted. I smile and thank him for the battle just before gently placing him back into his world grateful for the gift and reward nature shared with me today... 7lb 2oz... People ask me what I get out of fishing... How does one explain?? Eric J
  17. I live in the Northeast. Lower Hudson Valley, NYS. Any reason not to hit the lake round 4:30 or is that too early? It's sunny and 78*. Am I just wasting an hour?
  18. I have that issue in lakes here as well. For the heavier brush I use T-Rig plastics; Worms, Rage Tails... They do fine... Eric J
  19. I get to my local lake around 5pm to get in a couple hours despite the air temp being 90* Yep... NINETY! I throw on a rage tail and get a solid hit on the second cast. I get him to the dock and as I pull up on the rod to grab him it SNAPS! Brand new, bought 3 weeks ago. I landed a 6 pounder with it but this 2 pound fish snaps the rod.... I looked on in disbelief and all I could think is; I GOTTA LAND THIS BASS!!!! HA!
  20. I use an ADIDAS back pack. I carry 3 PLano boxes of varying sizes for my lures. There are enough compartments and sections for line, plastic lure packets and a snack/water. You can see the straps in my profile pic. Its durable and easy off and on... Eric J
  21. I'm 58. I was a competitive Endurance athlete for years. I no longer compete but I still ride and run and I try to Crossfit a few times a week. I also maintain my status as a fitness trainer. "An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force." Fight for what gives you joy.... 22. Eric J

  23. I'm hoping to for next season or at the end of this one for the bargains...
  24. Lews Carbon Fire Speed Spool around $70 Lews Speed Spool LFS $100 Good value for the price.... Eric J
  25. Very true... My buddy filled a decent sized Plano with weighted jigs, pig tails and other plastics from there today. I ran to the mall with the wife and somehow Dick's kidnapped me and forced me to buy a reel and a couple chatters...
