Getting back to my wind knot issue using braid on my Stradic 1000fh. I get an awful wind knot every eight casts or so. My Symetre 1000 fl has no problems with wind knots. They are on different rods so I will switch rods and see. I have tried 30lb braid, because i read that higher gauge would help wind knots. I tried super slick and Fins windtamer. Super Slick at least made it easier to pick out the knots. I made sure that I did not over fill the spool. I did just read that if the spool is not distributed evenly and especially if it fills more at the top that could cause wind knots. My Stradic does spool heavy to the top. Will get a washer/filler to lift up the spool. Any other things that people can think of? Besides me on living on a lake with lots of weed lines where i constantly have to pull and jerk the line?

OK, so no 20 lb mono. Trying to determine why my line broke. I had spooled it with brand new 10 lb H2O XPRESS 10lb Premium Monofilament maybe a month ago. I fish maybe 3-4 evenings for about 1 hour. It is not an expensive rod, a Berkley Cherrywood HD. The guides are not ceramic. I just checked my guides and cleaned them. Did not see anything obvious. I cast and retrieve a swim bait with a 1/4 oz jig head and rubber swim bait from my kayak or the shore. There are quite a few weeds that I have to pull hard through and sometimes really hard when the hook gets stuck. The first break was from lifting the fish out of the water into the kayak (I don't use a net) and he was trying to shake the hook loose. Not good with weights but he was not large. The second break was a smaller bass just flipping in the air while i was reeling him in. How often do you change your line? Any suggestions?

I usually fish with braid. But for some reason my Shimano Stradic 1000fh reel gets terrible wind knots with braid. I have tried multiple types and gauge of braid and yes I know what causes wind knots. None of my other Shimano 1000 reels have this issue. So I spooled the Stradic with 8 lb mono but the line broke several times even on small bass. So I bought 20 lb mono and no matter which side I lay the spool (label on top or label on bottom) while I am putting it on my reel, the line just jumps off my reel. The line is Berkley Trilene, Big Game, 20 lb, 650 yds. What am I doing wrong?
