  1. Thanks for the responses. I checked with the airlines but I do know people who have had different experiences a year or so ago. I had to check my rods years ago and just kept doing it since, and always forget to ask the ticket and boarding agents. Just trying to prevent being that guy with oversized golf bag and rod tubes fumbling through the airport.
  2. I haven't flown with a travel rod in years. Are any travel rods still allowed as a carry on? I've checked and have heard different experiences. I'm going on a golf vacation and would like to bring a decent travel rod that optimally I could take on the plane with me as a carry on. Looking at the Fenwick 4 piece.
  3. It's a great reel. I have a few and Met's, Curado K's and DC's. The Chronarch is probably my overall favorite. Shapewise, performance especially with light baits. Winter is coming and the material does not transfer cold to the hands like a metal reel does. You will love that reel.
  4. I don't know how this thread evolved into golf equipment, but just to add Nike contracted Bridgestone to manufacture their balls so they were never into manufacturing much of their golf equipment. There are many more examples of this across life. There are people who have made very good money negotiating licensing deals similar to this.
  5. I wouldn't bet against them doing it. Only thing is they will update the Chronarch as well and jack the price of it too. They took a bunch of the tech from higher end spinning reels and put it in the stradic and bumped the price $30. I'm kind of excited to see what they do with the new releases as the last few years have been very well received.
  6. Ha I'm right with you on this one. Few years ago I finally broke down and bought new baitcasters to replace my round reels. Took them out to the backyard and casted a 1/2oz weight and was amazed at the distance. I was nearly reaching the edge of my lawn about 50 yards. After a few casts I grabbed the old Ugly stick combo with the Shakespeare reel I picked up on clearance ten years ago. First cast was in the trees well beyond the bait casters.
  7. I didn't even know they made Flukes until last year, I grabbed a pack on TW because I was curious. I've been throwing the superflukes with both spinning and baitcaster setups for years. First time I tried a regular fluke on a baitcasting setup...well let's say god bless anyone who can do that effectively. They are about half the weight of the superfluke and double the trouble with a casting reel in my hands.
  8. Agreed. The MGL is available in Japan only, same as they did with the Casitas. I think with all the fancy upgrades and gimmicks in reel technology in the last 10 years the MGL spool is probably the biggest breakthrough. I'm a cheap old guy and used my round reels for probably too long until I picked up a friends Chronarch MGL. Fast forward 3 years and I have 2 of them and 2 Met's. If they ever come out with a Curado 70 MGL I'll dust off my wallet and grab a few. Since the Curado DC is being discussed, anyone else more impressed with how solid it reels over how it casts? I've realized there is almost no distance gained vs. my MGL's but darn it if it isn't one of the most solid and smooth feeling reels I've ever used. Lastly a dumb question. What is the difference between the SLX and the SLX XT?
  9. Yeah that video is the reason I ask about the CI4 version. I absolutely love TackleAdvisors, Scooby is unbelievable at making videos. I'm guessing if they've brought some of the tech from the higher end models to the regular Stradic they will do the same with the CI4 version. The reason I'm curious is I love the 2016 and can't wait to see this years improvements.
  10. I see they released a new stradic Fl and it's been 3 years since the last CI4 version. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about a new version of the CI4, since it seems Shimano has been releasing new models every 3 years consistently. I have the 2016 3000 CI4 and love it. Have been looking at picking up a 1000 and am going to wait for a new model. I'll either be blown away as I was with the last version, or scoop up one of the older models once they drop in price.
  11. Thanks sounds interesting. I certainly don't need anymore reels than I own now. So I'll probably purchase this thing anyway.
  12. I love my DC but it also doesn't throw the lighter stuff as well as the 1/4oz and above. A weightless fluke is on the low end for this reel IMO. I agree the line you are using is probably the culprit, but I can't imagine no matter the line you getting the maximum out of that reel with such a light bait.
  13. How does it feel in the hand size wise, and what Shimano reel would you say it's closest to regarding how it feels in the hand?
  14. My local Walmart is clueless regarding fishing gear. I always check the clearance rack and scored a bunch of kalins grubs for 75 cents each. I've never even seen them for sale there so I'm guessing they went straight to the clearance rack. Since I grabbed all 4 bags I went to pick up a few Bitsy bug jig heads. Here's where it gets out of control. They were 25 cents a piece. Bought all 10 of them and going back tomorrow to see if they have more in stock. $5.50 for 40 grubs and 10 jigs. I'm set till next decade.
  15. The first sentence of the first post. lol. @Preytorien Don't do it man, there is plenty of gear from reputable companies for rock bottom prices on Ebay. One thing I hate seeing nowadays is 'disposable' items that were once built to last. It seems so strange to buy something not worth fixing.
  16. I'm a bit anal about having the spool tension as loose as possible so I change it slightly depending on what brake setting is being used. I've never liked over tight spools, or an over braking reel. If I set up for brake setting 1 the tension is too tight for the other settings. I buy equipment for maximum performance and that's what took a bit longer to with this reel. I'm a perfectionist with equipment, so I guess you could say for the average fisherman I had this baby dialed in within minutes but for my standards it took a bit longer. Sounds like you have some messing around still to do! LOL. Either way I do enjoy this reel very much.
  17. I've had similar experiences with American Legacy and it means the world. Not only did that letter lock you in as a customer, but it has me looking at their lineup. Thanks for sharing.
  18. I set up all my reels with minimal braking and minimal tension. I could tell setting 4 was not for me. What took me a bit was 1 and 2. As stated before 1 is almost useless, and 2 is where I've done most of my fishing. I still find I had to set the tension a bit tighter than I prefer on non DC reels. The tension knob is more sensitive than high end Shimanos. In the end it took a few casts to figure out setting 2, and an hour or so to realize the other 3 settings were not for me.
  19. @Burrows There is no logic to Ebay other than is someone needs cash badly enough they will sell something for rock bottom prices. I don't buy the theory of lower demand higher prices but that's for another thread I guess...the can you pick up the sarcasm thread. I'm actually a fan of lightly used in some cases. If this reel bombs there will be plenty of lightly used ones on the market cutting into the sales of new ones. Either way I'll score another 2 by winter for well under MSRP.
  20. I agree with setting 1. The only way I've managed to get it working on this setting is to tighten the tension far beyond what I set any reel. It will cast about the same distance as setting 2 with the spool tension much lower so it is a useless setting IMO. I haven't tried 3 much TBH but I will tomorrow. 4 is pretty much for beginners or casting into the wind and is nearly useless. I did notice it is much more forgiving with braid than mono. I had more over runs with mono mid cast than I've had in years but with braid those seemed to work themselves out by the time the lure hit the water. All that said I still love this reel. Strangely enough it's taken me much longer to get it set up to my comfort level by a long shot. I played with it for a few hours before I felt it was in the optimal zone for how I wanted to use it. It will not replace my MGL spooled reels though. Not by a long shot. @Gundog I agree it was over hyped and definitely takes more time to dial in than any other reel I've owned. It's still a great fun reel. Half of me hopes the masses don't embrace it and I can scoop up a few more on the cheap on Ebay in the coming months.
  21. I've had mine for a few weeks, long enough to add a bit of feedback. The distance is impressive. I don't put much into how far I cast for the most part but this thing had me and a buddy laughing at how far it sends 1/2 oz crainkbaits. It is noticeable right away even if you are a seasoned caster. Originally I had mono on it but switched to braid as it was impossible to set the hook at 60 yards with the mono stretch. It feels otherwise just like a K, which is a very solid feeling reel. Even more important is it's effortless casting. After a few hours on the water it is rewarding to put in a fraction of the energy to put it exactly where you want. Backhanding it around corners is slightly easier than the MGL spools. Most importantly less effort equals deadly accuracy, at least in my case. I experimented with this on a 7'6 originally for cranking, but switched to a 6'6 and couldn't believe how I could thread the needle at this length without losing any distance. Only cons so far is the thumbar has a different feeling of the higher end Shimano's but that's not a deal breaker. It doesn't palm as nicely for me as a Met, or Chronarch but neither did the previous Curado's. It is not necessary now will it make you a better fisherman but it sure is fun. I haven't lost any love for my MGL spools but if you have the cash and want to try something different I highly suggest you at least play around with a DC reel.
  22. Sorry guys but Ebay has another 20% off sale. I don't need anything so of course I'm looking at a Tatula LT spinning reel. There's a bunch that can be had for just over $100 with the coupon. Happy hunting.
  23. Every time I bought gear it was always a step up from what I was replacing. My most satisfying buys as of late have me feeling l I have the best money can get for my needs. No more wondering if there is something better. For me knowing that is winning. I saw you post some beautiful Excenses paired with NRX's and my jaw hit the ground as did many others. When you posted the Stellas and Conquests I know you felt the same way with those rigs in your hand. You're right, there is no competition but there is winning.
