Same type of thing happened to me, had permission to fish a pond that hadn't been fished in YEARS. Got there right at crack of day, mid- October, got the boat backed in, picked up a random rod with a squarebill tied on and slung a hail Mary straight out in the middle of the pond. Started a nice slow crank with a 2-3 reel pause and WHAM! Got slammed, fought her in the boat, 7lb LMB. Perfect way to start the day off Never have had that happen again. Right place, right time, right bass.

Rig a creature bait t-rig, 4/0, punch skirt, with pegged round tungsten weight. Go through grass and round weight will keep from getting hung in the rocks

I'm with Tom, I rinse with freshwater and coat everything that can rust with wd-40. I use alot of my freshwater gear quite often saltwater fishing. Reds, trout's, snook. All great fishing

Lake only guys don't understand river systems. Hitting logs, roots, debris, sandbars and everything in between is common on a constantly changing river system. I've been running wide open hit a sandbar and spin the boat 180°. It's no different than anybody else not wanting to putt all the way back to the landing I don't see where Alton did anything wrong. Accidents happen

Don't over think it. Just throw what colors you have confidence in. I fish muddy stained water regularly, I've caught them on black/blue jigs, white buzzbaits, red craw cranks, black frogs and everything in between. Don't get hung up on color, just because a pro uses that color. His fellow colleagues might be fishing a black jelly worm and catching more!

Eh there's alot more to saltwater fishing than your giving credit too. 1oz sinker and shrimp ain't the only way to fish @813basstard I'm assuming the 813 is your area code. I grew up around Tampa, Fla and if that's where you are you need to get on to some big snooks and gator trout you'll be hooked! Especially throwing topwater

Call the DNR and get him removed. Gators like that are a danger to everyone around. When they lose the fear of man, it's time they go.

Sounds like your doing everything right, just be patient and stick with it. I would swap to a popping frog as well. I've had really good success with them

Yeah 2-3 fish on average per fluke. Weedless in the pads, just let it flutter down in the holes
