  1. Oh yeah. I just love throwing spooks. The ol moderate action is key for me on keeping fish pinned with treble hook baits on braid. I just broke one of my old Daiwa Lexa spook rods aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh! so I am interested to hear what everyone else suggests.
  2. You a braid or mono man for topwaters?
  3. Clear lake, not a lot of structure, end of summer... hmmm... start with a topwater early, a spook/walking topwater or whopperplopper in bone or white. Use these to cover water and find fish. Once the sun gets on the water, a weightless senko, 4" dropshot, shakey head, or ned rig in green pumpkin or watermelon candy around every stick, dock, limb in the water. Good luck dude!
  4. My Curado does the same. Sounds like we fish similarly Marc. Come on team- somebody has a great answer for this!
  5. JB, your boy Glacus has it 100% here. There is a balance in letting a weightless worm fall on a slack line, then picking it up and feeling if there is a fish there. Let the bait fall a bit, then check to see if anyone's there, repeat. One of these times you check it, it will feel heavy or the line will be swimming off. That's when it's time to reel em in.
  6. Anyone have an Ascend sit on top? I have read several reviews that say they are tough to stand in...
  7. The red hook absolutely matters. Every hard bait I own has a red front treble and black on the back. I feel like it gives the fish a more defined target to eat, and almost every fish I catch has that red hook in their mouth. I liken it to aiming for a spot on your target rather than just aiming for the target. MLF pro Brent Chapman thinks so too... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TnqK0XgnPwU
  8. Will you give us a review of this boat when you get some time in it on the water please? Thanks!
  9. Can you stand and fish in these boats?
  10. Those Snap Jigs catch fish. I use a small fluke on them. Also in that family of lures are tail spinners like the old little george, blade baits/silver buddies, or jigging spoons. War Eagle makes a great jigging spoon that WM sells for pretty cheap. Good luck man!
  11. For us poboys, I have had excellent results with 13 Fishing Defy rods. Numerous offerings for a mere $59. Do all rods need to be super light or sensitive? Naw. If not at your local tackle shop, they can be had from our friends at TW with free shipping.
  12. Tom could you slap that pic onto this stream please. Thanks
  13. Lets evaluate some logic here: First, my cheap kayak is quite comfortable and I can huck in and out of the truck bed easily. Second, it will not be sold. Third, the majority of people in this country do not live near a kayak dealer who rents or demos kayaks. And finally, professor, if my cheap boat lasts 2 years, it will be money well spent. Oh look, it has already lasted that long! Woohoo! Man do I love logic! And tacos!
  14. In order to see if I was going to like kayak fishing, I spent $250 on an el cheapo sit-on-top at a sporting goods box and have enjoyed every minute in it. Boats at this price point seem largely the same. Keep your receipt in case it leaks. Wallyworld has a few decent looking starter boats this year. That said, I am now shopping for a bigger, better boat but hey, now I will have one for a guest.
  15. Bucca says to burn that thing on top. That how you are catchin em?
  16. And when I say BIG, lets just say 1 oz and up. thanks guys.
  17. Very few ponds around Nashville but many creeks and rivers. Bank fishing in the area is very limited. If your goal is to actually catch fish, check out one of the numerous kayak/canoe rentals on one of the area’s numerous rivers- there are good options in every part of Middle TN.
  18. Several great explanations above. I will add...most pros have fished every single minute of every day they can possibly be on the water so when they put the trolling motor down, they have stopped in a high percentage spot with a careful game plan based upon recent info and years of experience, then add the ability to change and follow the fish. With the consistent top pros, imagine the prep Tom Brady puts in during the month of November.
  19. This is truth. One lake, watermelon candy owns it. Another, its GP with the tail dipped chartreuse. I have thrown a white senko some as well as the white/chartreuse BPS sticko in very clear water and caught them.
  20. Thanks for the help yall. Sure makes for a better thought out purchase when you have the knowledge and experience of BR at hand.
  21. This is the real question...longer rods for heavier lures.
  22. Maxima makes excellent mono. It runs heavy so go with the next lightest size. I run 12lb green for squarebills and buzzbaits.
  23. Just have to do your best to use what you have and get as close as possible. Maybe a green pumpkin senko with tail dipped orange? That color combo should be a staple in a bass fisherman’s arsenal.
  24. This was a vey educational post. Rather than tag my question onto this thread I started another and would appreciate your feedback. Standup vs stream kayak. Thanks man.
