  1. This will be embarrassing considering I’ve read the entire thread. Favorite spinning is my president that caught my first smallie. Favorite ted bc is my silvermax that has caught me the most fish. Trending is the daiwa Lexa I first learned to fish plastic with. Coolest isn’t even mine. I got a nasty birdsnest in my silvermax. My father in law handed me a combo and I caught a bass with it first cast. Turns out it was his dad’s. His coworkers bought him a Calcutta and had his name engraved on the side when he retired. One day, lord willing, I’ll own it. It’s almost too nice and meaningful to fish with.
  2. I actually use both for BC. I wanted to try the left retrieve and ended up liking it. Now I have have 3 left hand and 4 right hand retrieve. I still cast righty though. I use the LH retrieve for techniques that might get bit right away, like jig or t rig, and RH for spinnerbaits and cranks. Gives a nice break to from the constant reeling of moving baits.
  3. Ok cool thanks. I’ve usually gone down for the classic but since there’s nothing I can’t live without I was hoping to just order some stuff. I’ll wait and see if what I want will still be on sale.
  4. Are BPS spring classic deals online or in store only? I’ve only ever gone the first night with the old man and never tried to buy online. Interested in some baits
  5. All super helpful info. Can’t thank everyone enough! I’ve got that gear monkey cooking right now, we’ll for the last 2 years. It’s not that I’m lazy, but I like to make everything specific and tie as little as possible. My goal year in and year out is to fish new ways. This year it’s swimbaits and jigs. I’ve got a trip coming up and have been organizing, and reorganizing since January. I know my wife is ready for me to leave and come home so the madness is over for at least half a year.
  6. Thanks for the great info all! The table trick will really help. I’ve seen the picture of action description but I suppose I never really thought about putting the picture into practice. Like Ken I said I’ve gotten some of my own equipment, just looking to see what holes I can fill with the old mans. Some of his retired rods are quantum quartz transmitters and few old pistol grip skylines. I’ve caught fish on all of them, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t hindering myself throwing a worm on a moderate or a crank on an extra fast. With the limited time I have to fish I want to give myself in the best chance to catch as possible!
  7. Thanks! It may be the OCD in me, but I really like to make sure I’m putting myself in the best position to catch fish. I started acquiring my own stuff, then realized I wasn’t entirely sure what I was really buying. I’ve been piecing things together for a while but like to see what combos will really work best for what I’m targeting. Dayton Ohio can have an exceptionally enduring winter so I’m just rocking through my stuff seeing if I need to make changes. As a quick aside idea I have enjoyed reading your posts and using your wealth of information!
  8. Thanks for the welcomes all! Looking forward to continued reading and hopefully contributing something useful!
  9. I apologize if this has been covered before but I searched and didn’t find anything after a few pages. Does anyone know of resources or know tips to figure out what an older rod’s,or one that isn’t specifically labeled, action is? My move to get into fishing has turned my dad into a bit of an impulse buyer. I can take over some of his older equipment but I can think figure out how I would apply it. Any help is appreciated!
  10. Afternoon all! My name is Marcus and I’m in Dayton, Ohio. I’ve been fishing on and off since I was a kid but just took it up in a more serious manner about 5 years ago. As you can see by the username I’m the dedicated ramp driver, as well as tow vehicle fetcher while fishing off the stern. I’m good with it though, as I’ve honed the trailering pretty well. Both my father and father in law have bass boats. I Am at the mercy of my own two feet. I dont gave nearly the time to fish that id like, however I will hits d**n or metropark whenever I have a free half hour. I fish Indian lake and Caesars creek mostly, with little success at either. I take a long boys weekend to Mitchell’s bay every year and unfortunately that ruins me for Ohio fishing. Looking forward to reading more and hopefully i can contribute something.
