  1. Took the family out for panfish on Clifford lake in Montcalm county. Didn’t do to bad considering I rarely fish for panfish. We caught a lot of little panfish and caught 4 keepers 2 sunfish and 2 crappies. One of the big crappies came in a Beatles spin along with a couple small bass. I based fish for the last hour only caught some little ones on a wacky rig. We eventually put the 4 panfish back at the end of the day. Wife and daughter had a good time
  2. Getting more of my deep cranking game on. I ordered 2 spro DD 70 cranks and 2 bullet crank 7+100’s come in the mail. I didn’t realize how big the bullets were. Only issue is I don’t know if my current deep cranking rod will handle the bullets. If not I guess I know what I’m building this winter !!!! I’d probably go for a speed cranking set up. Like what they talk about in tactical bassin. My current rod should handle the spro’s. I know it will handle 8xd’s in bound I have 2 13 fishing troll hunter deep crank baits coming along with a mega bass deep 6 300 and a deep 100.
  3. We troll silver plated spoons that have either fully been painted on the front side or half and half on the front. Back side is always left painted. We troll for salmon any where from 20-120 ft deep on Lake Michigan. Fish can see the flash that deep. Lake Michigan is ultra clear now. even if the water isn’t clear fish still have to eat in stained water. If they can find bait fish they will find your crank.
  4. So yesterday while fishing little platte I snagged some braid. I start hand lining it in and there is what I believe is a cotton Cordell lipless crank. What makes this even better besides the cheap snap swivel and multicolored 30 lbs braid attached to it. I was litterally fishing 1.5-2ft of water when I snagged it. Crystal clear water and a sand bottom. I’m sure who ever was fishing this was just bombimg it out there and giving it $&@@. Not know what he was doing. It was attached to a pad. So I do t know if he just said screw it cut off 60 ft of braid or what ill probably put some new hooks on it and put with the rest of lipless cranks that I never use
  5. Boat was finally ready. Had to replace both switches boxes on the motor. I was only running on 3 of 6 cylinders. It runs way better now. Gained 3 mph First fish is a smallie from crystal lake in benzie county. Caught it on a maxx scent Gp tube. Also, caught a bunch of 10–11 inch rock bass rock bass. I saw one 20ish inch fish zooming around. Wouldn’t bite however. rest of the fish are from little plate lake. I finally caught a fish on a rod I built. That was pretty cool. I was punching pads and bite one of my jigs that I pour. Rest of the fish came on a 1.5 kvd square bill. Biggest came on a strike king summer craw stick bait
  6. I like the Berkley 100 % flouro. I use it on both my spinning rods and my deep cranking rod. Cabelas was running a deal in April for 400 yards of it for $24.99. I picked some 17lbs test for my deep cranking rod
  7. I have a dobyns colt. For the money it is a very good rod. Mine is a m/l 7fter I’ve had it 4 summers now. I use it for wacky, rigs, tubes, jerk baits, and shad raps. The m/l is a little on the heavy side. I’ve got plenty of back home when I wack a bass on a wacky rig. i like the st.croix rods starting with the premier on up in the price point catagory. For the sub $130 price point I think dobyns are better.
  8. That’s kinda how I feel about it. However, once it’s been established as a good fish catcher I would buy multiples. lately on eBay I’ve been buying 3 lure kits if the same color. Most times when I win the auctions all 3 lures are the same price if the were regular priced in a store.
  9. I net almost every fish that I catch including pike. Right now I’m using my old Walmart frabill nylon net. only reason I can see for not netting a fish would obviously be during a bass tournament. I’m not trying to un-needlessly hurt the fish or break a rod flipping bass. I don’t have one yet but, the best bet for cranks are the rubber ones. Bunch of different companies make the rubber nets. A lot of them are made in the U.S.
  10. I would much rather pay a couple bucks more for better hardware.
  11. Been buying swim bait stuff over the last 2 weeks fishlab bio black crappie fish lab bio gill Berkley sunfish gillie trokar 5/0 swim bait screw in hooks vmc screw in 5/0 hooks
  12. Usually June is when the t-rig and wacky rig bite usually really starts heating up. mid to end of June I’ll start throwing jigs always start if with cranks. As long as the waters above 50 degrees it’s Never a bad time to throw a crank
  13. I buy 90% of my tackle off of eBay anymore. Either through auctions or eBay stores. I have been buying some stuff from tackle direct though lately.
  14. Who makes those z-boss-22? What depth do they run ?
  15. That’s a nice lure. Sure it would be a northern pike magnet. I did order a pack of Berkley gillies in sunfish. I’d like to try either the savage gear or the bio lab gill also.
  16. That makes sense
  17. I’ve been using 24 gage. I like the black painted/tinted wire the best
  18. Is there a difference between screwing a belly weighted hook into the swim bait or having one already in it like this one
  19. I’m running a 6ft6 mh fast Falcon Jason Christie spinner bait/square bill rod that I bought at Walmart on clearance for $40. Paired with a 6:4:1 slx reel. 10 lbs big game mono I mean I’m talking I wasn’t even getting bites when using flouro for spinner baits or chatter baits. I dunno if mono makes everything vibrate just a tad different or if it’s somthing I do during my retrieval cadence While, using mono
  20. i had some success in the past with them but, I didn’t know there were finness spinnerbaits and such. also for whatever reason mono line has worked very good on spinner baits and chatter baits. It changes my catch rate over flouro. I don’t know if it causes a differnt vibration or what
  21. Snap. Even with a split ring on it
  22. I may use my deep cranking rod that I built. It’s a 7ft8 Bushido cranking rod. Tip is soft but plenty of back bone. It’s 17 lbs flouro on it but I could use a mono leader. 1 1/4 oz is the limit on the rod 2nd one is a 7ft mh fast rainshadow blank that I built. It’s rated up 3/4 oz. That has 45 lbs braid Lastly my 7 ft 4 bass x heavy fast that has 65 lbs braid. jigs as heavy as 1 1/2 can be used so I’ll figure it out between these 3 rods.
  23. Zebra mussels shouldn’t be to much of an issue for me. Though I do fish the Great Lakes connecting waters occasionally. I like the idea of mono leader. I’ve got some 15lbs mono.
  24. That’s a possibility
  25. So in a incoming package I have some belly waited 5/0 screw in Trokars coming. I want to try those big plastic blue gill swim baits. im not going to go buy a rod specifically for this. Some of them are 1oz. What is everybody throwing them on? Heavier jig rod with braid ? I’m sure I have a rod a reel that will work.
