  1. What is the difference in the lucky craft line between the MR’s and the slender pointer. I know the lighting painters are supposed to mimic the mega bass sp’s I have the mr’s and slender pointers but, never really had success as compared to like lighting pointers and regular pointers.
  2. Yeah it does haha. My phone is a piece of crap at the moment and puts random words in . so there is a store called northwoods in Michigan. They sell knock of bandits for walleye trolling. They look very similar but, are called banditos haha
  3. After cracking all the males in shallow and loosing the bigger females out Deep yesterday the bait monkey was whispering in my ear. So I was in owosso for my daughters soccer game and stopped by Dunhams sports to pick up more spring time and blue gill inspired baits. Black and blue paca slim, sapphire blue pack chunk, GP pack chunk, blue gill grits side 5 and a smithwick suspending pro rogue in black back silver body orange belly. i was using paca chunks and other net baits when I first started bass fishing and kinda swore them off. I don’t think I was using what I had correctly. Giving them another shot. The chunks will work with smaller jigs. Paca slims I think will be a change up from the chigger craw. I actually do very well on black and blue plastic but, don’t have a lot for whatever reason I’m my bag. Frites side is obviously for spring time and when ever a cold front comes through. Smithwick rogue will be for the titabawassee and Saginaw rivers once the rivers open back up once the walleye are done spawning i there’s out probably $150-$200 worth of soft plastics last weekend. If I hadn’t used it 2-3 years out it went
  4. Mega bass is obviously the top and the most expensive. There is a whole lot of good ones in the mid range 10-15 dollar range. Lucky craft, spro, Berkley stunners, 6th sense, KVD the lower end you have the smithwick rogues which, I like fishing in deeper rivers, rapala husky jerks also suspend. almost pulled the trigger on a duo blue gill DD jerk bait last but, I decided to go with the 6th sense deep blue hill jerk bait instead
  5. The 1/4 oz jigs I make my self. Which, include flare eye arkie, poison tail, brush jig, and a gammagatsu ball head jig.
  6. I just found this company at the grand rapids fishing show this last March. They are called xtremebasstackle.com. They specialize in making small mouth tubes for lake st.Clair and the state of Michigan/Great Lakes region. They are based in the metro Detroit area ( lake st.Claire). I bought 2 packs of tubes. 1 4 inch tubes in blue illusion and 1 pack of goby. I have not yet made it to big crystal or one of the Great Lakes yet this year to fish so I havnt fished them yet. However, they look and feel like great quality tubes looks like they have been around since the 90’s
  7. Fished crystal lake again In Montcalm county Michigan. Water temp had warmed up almost 20 degrees in 4 days. It’s been 80 degrees the since Tuesday. As I was motoring out I happened to look into the water and I saw a wolf pack of 10-14 inch bass schooled up and just roaming around in 3-4 ft of water. I investigated this and picked off three. However, the entire shallows was full of schools of what I’m assuming were males roaming around. Shows how much I’ve matured as an angler I would have stayed all day catching these smaller fish. They were not in a chasing mood. Tried moving out deeper looking for bigger fish I was mildly successful. I finally figured out that they wanted either a blue gill or perch jerk bait. I caught around 20 14-15 inch fish on a LC blue gill jerk bait. I lost 3-4 bigger fish on a mega bass perch +1 in 8-9ft of water. I’m finding out blue gill is the hot color on crystal . I caught 1-2 fish on a 6th sense lipless crank. Also 1-2 on a sun gill Keitech swing impact. Need to find bigger fish
  8. I know internally the carbon light is identical to the other doyo reels that I have. Couple extra metal bits and I think a bearing on the worm gear and I also think full carbon washers No supported pinion. It has been a good reel though. amazing the shimano slx and quantum accurist ( with flipping switch) can give a supported pinion for $25 less. I guess the trade off though was not full carbon washers
  9. Are the BPS carbon light 2.0 rebadged Lew reels ?
  10. I know but, the allure of possible catching smallies was to great. I was very surprised by the temp on crystal. I’m thinking they are really close to spawning on duck lake if they havnt started already. everything was going good untill my buddy showed up half way through at the launch. I kinda lost focus and he dosnt really have the gear to do what I wanted to do. Which, was crank, jerk bait, maybe run a Carolina rig, and or fish in that kind of wind
  11. First one on the rod
  12. Rod geek fiber glass deep cranking rod is done. I had an issue with one air bubble near the hook keeper so I had to sand it out. When I re applied the epoxy I messed up by trying to only using a light coat onbig wrap with the hook keeper. Well that left ridges. So i had to sand the ridges down the best I could and then re-applied a third thicker coat and it came out pretty good. I’m only 3 regular rods on but, my epoxy job is is better this time on the guides. if the winds cooperate I can go to the lake I want I should be able to tear it out Tuesday. If I have to go to the other shallower lake I will not be. next up I want to build a 7ft light t-rig/jig bait casting rod somthing like 1/8-3/4. That will replace my 6ft 9 carbon light combo which, I’ll move to my spinner bait / chatter bait rod. After the worm/jig rod I’m thinking Carolina rig rod. It never stops and farther into the rabbit hole we go haha
  13. I havnt build a lighter cranking rod yet. I’ve built 1 Bushido graphite deep cranking rod and 1 deep cranking rod from rod geeks on fiberglass blank. I either company I would recommend. when I do build a replacement for my Okuma EVX that I use for 4–10 ft ill be using one of the 2 above mention blanks. I believe either blank from either company can be purchased for around $50-$60 for that application.
  14. Yeah it is a bit. I have 4 8ish gear ratios right now. That is a nice reel though
  15. What’s the gear ratio ? I’m looking for something for swim baits and swim jigs. So like mid 6:3-7:02 . I have tatula sv tw with a higher gear ratio
  16. In all honestly if all I had were a chrome/silver crank, a black crank, and a dark green/green pumpkin crank. I’d be good to go and wouldn’t need anything else. however, I’m addicted to buying cranks and like having them.
  17. What the means is you have to find the warmer water in the system. That’s where the bass will be. It maybe be 34 degrees on top but, 10 feet down in the hole or in the river channel it could be 39 degrees. Find the warmest surface temp you can find and start fishing.
  18. 3x strong hooks are for trolling for king salmon, lake trout and steel head. They come standard on our Lake Michigan equipment. A 30-40 lbs king will not straighten them out generally trolling at 2.5-3.0 mph . You don’t need those for bass
  19. I like my SLX’s I’ve got a regular and a 150 dc. They have done everything I’ve asked of them. Only thing I don’t like is the plastic worm gear which, comes on all the slx models. However, the worm gear only real purpose is just to move the pawl back and forth so it’s not really load bearing. I need a middle geared bait caster for swim jigs and swim baits. I’ve got 2 tatula’s and I’m kicking around getting a shimano curado to check out. I’d like to personally compare the curado vs slx vs tatula.
  20. I’m not afraid to power fish a tube on 1/4 oz to 1/2 oz t-rig. Works well in bigger rivers with current. I’ll catch large mouth and small mouth this way on the titabawassee and Saginaw rivers.
  21. War eagles are my personal gold standard for spinner baits. As far as quality and price point you’re not going to find a better spinner bait. They also make a ton of different colors in every imaginable style. im going down the rabbit hole soon of building my own so that may change. I’ve made my own chatter baits and have caught a lot of fish on my own but, jack hammers are the gold standard of the chatter bait world. You make a good point on the patent. Once that comes off you may see the chatter bait getting refined even further by different mfgers and the gold standard may change. The chatter bait is the gold standard because, no one can challenge it at the moment.
  22. There is a thread called “ latest custom build thread”. I have photos of both rods there. The spinning rods done. I’m just finishing up the crank rod tonight. I had to fix some air bubbles. Should be done by tommrow. Than I will show completed pictures of the glass cranking rod I’ve only been out fishing once so far. I did use the spinning rod. It has a soft tip but, a lot of back bone. It’s very light. I like the extra 3 inch length. It worked really good on jerk baits. It’s going to make a jerk bait, popper, spook, shad rap, and what ever moving bait rod. I also plan on throwing like OG 4 and 5’s on it. Basically, any small crank what I’m not sure about is the wacky rig and tubes. Maybe with it being a MH it will be ok.
  23. Great and this is my go to for affixing weed guards and 3d eyes. Not so good for clear coat though
  24. Bandit, bomber, Norman, and strike king are all affordable cranks that produce fish. I would swap the hooks out to what ever premium hooks. strike king, smithwick, and rapala make affordable jerk baits. Same deal though swap out the hooks.
  25. I’ve seen that in the extended forcast. Supposed to be warm but, very windy this week. Looks like next Tuesday will be good to go and that’s my normal day off. 15 mph max wind is about what I can comfortably fish in my sea nymph. Next question is do I try crystal or go to duck or another shallow lake.
