If you had to start over from the beginning and had $300 to get a new rod and reel what would it be? Personally I'd get an AlX Zolo and a daiwa Tatula ct type r.
Hey guys,
I was just at Cabelas to return a bag that had a broken zipper, and the guy at customer support informed that their life time guarantee was withdrawn by Bass Pro Shops. This means I will not be buying anymore of their store brand stuff. Just wanted to let you guys know so nobody gets an unpleasant surprise when trying to return items!
The tatula ct-r is my fav reel. Given the choice between the tatula and a Curado K (which I have and use) I'd take the tatula any day. Not to mention you can get the tatula for less than $100 of you're lucky on Ebay!
If you want a rod and reel under $250 you'll probably be best off with getting a Daiwa Fuego off Ebay or Amazon for <$60 and getting a dobyns champion xp 734 from American legacy fishing. They have a 20% off sale on all dobyns rods and you can get an additional 10% off if you sign up for their newsletter.
I caught a 22 inch bass last summer and it weighed 3 pounds on the dot. It didn't seem right to me but that's what the scale said so I didn't question it, that was my longest bass yet. My biggest Bass was 20.5 inches and weighed 4.75 pounds. Now that I caught a bass almost 2 inches shorter and 40% heavier Its driving me crazy as to whether or not the 22 inch fish actually weighed 3 pound or not.
I have the Daiwa CT type-r and it's an awesome reel! I'd take it any day over my Curado K!. The daiwa fuego is an amazing reel for the money, I have one as my froggin reel and it works beautifully. Not quite as nice as my Tatula but for the money it is without a doubt the best sub $100 reel.
