  1. Honestly I’m just using a 6’ HMG. Nowhere near the typical Jerkbait rod action but I’ve had no problems enticing and landing fish. Get a good spinning reel with a good drag system and pay attention while landing fish. Would be nice to be able to cut a bit of length off the butt end of some of these Jerkbait rods. Those saying a 6’8”-6’11” is fine are probably right as well.
  2. I, similar to a few who have replied, also like an extra fast for just a couple of my lighter set ups. Mostly just lighter jigs ML/XF as well as vertical jigging(m/xf) all with lighter wire hooks for a quick easy hook set. These are spinning rods I use for walleye which often bite lightly and spit the lure out quickly. As far as bass fishing I don't think it is as important, but I haven't done nearly as much bass fishing. If you really liked the ned rig i'd recommend something like this as I would imagine it would work great with an extra fast rod.
  3. I always hated how people would refer to the the action as more or less tip (or at least action is what I think they are trying to describe). Then I read articles on bass fishing sites that refer to a rod with a x action and x tip making things very confusing as I am not sure what the difference is between the two. A rod has a power (Light, Heavy etc.) and an action (moderate, Fast etc.). Why do people keep bringing up the term tip when they describe a rod? Or am I the confused one here?
  4. I don't think they sell that at the Canadian Cabelas. Just realizing how much less is available here in Canada.
  5. I currently am using a 6'6 M/MF rod (Abu Garcia Silvermax). This rod and reel combo has gotten roughed up a bit and I am considering what to get when I do need to replace it. I found that it worked well for spinnerbaits but am thinking something a bit longer with similar action would be nice for further casting. Any recommendations
  6. This year I am focusing on getting better at fishing with the jerk bait. I just ordered a 6’ Fenwick HMG rod and was wondering what others think of it as a jerkbait rod. It is a Medium power fast action rod. I wanted a shorter rod as I will be standing at water level (standing in my kayak). I am sure everyone that uses a jerkbait has their own ideas but I am just looking to get steered in the right general direction if I got it all wrong. I’ve seen different opinions on rod action. Rod power recommendations seem straight forward at least. I plan on pairing it up with a smaller reel to make jerking easier work (probably size 20/2000). Maybe one with a faster gear ratio as well. Any other rod/reel recommendations are welcome as well.
