  1. The original Scum Frog in green or black is the only one I really use. Hook up ratio and price are fantastic compared to some others I have tried and durability doesn't seem to be an issue. It is certainly not the prettiest/most realistic looking frog out there, but most of the time I'm not fishing it in open water anyways nor do I think it matters that much. The one issue with them in my opinion is how light weight they are. To solve this, just pop a couple BBs or a small bullet weight in them and they are good to go. One time I took a white one and added a swivel and a willow blade to each hook and fished it like a buzzbait and could pause it because it floats.
  2. My 1542 conversion was about 3-3.5k all said and done, bought everything new. I fish mostly electric only lakes so no outboard... I instead went with a 12v 55lb thrust bow mount (worth every penny). Decked it out with 2x4s and plywood, on year 5 now and it’s still in great shape. One thing to be careful of is weight dispersion. I made the mistake of putting most of the (wood) weight towards the front. No real issues there, the boat just sits in the water a little funny. So maybe consider putting some of the storage towards the back/middle. I think the battery is just a BPS brand 12v battery. It powers my trolling motor and small Lowrance all day on a full charge, and I usually have about 50-60% left when I get home. Keep in mind I’m using the trolling motor to get from spot to spot too.
  3. "Tank Williams Jr." managed to come out of my mouth last weekend...
  4. Usually leads to me being on BPS' website during lectures. Its bad. Probably explains why my PB is twice my GPA.
  5. In my opinion it is all about the age that one gets started. I am 19 now and have been obsessed for about the last 4-5 years. As a younger kid, I was always very interested, but had to rely on others to take me fishing which made it tough to get out sometimes. At some point in my early high school days a friend and his dad took me out with them on their bass boat and that's what really got me hooked. The next big thing for me personally was when I got my drivers license, from then on I no longer had to rely on others, and my trips to the lakes and ponds became almost daily. With that experience in mind I think that when trying to get young people interested in fishing a lot more success will be found targeting kids that are a little older and they can fully grasp the sport on their own. I even had a lot of success getting kids at my high school interested once they saw how much fun I was having, from then on I never had a problem finding a partner to take the jon boat out for a day.
  6. very late on this but I spent a lot of nights this past summer at long pine run. The water is extremely clear for our area, and a pair of good sunglasses goes a long way. As far as my findings went, the lake is good for numbers. I had nights where I lost track, catching them mostly on senkos and the occasional jig bite. Just have to keep it small and natural.
  7. I just ordered some of these the other day they look pretty good excited to try them out.
  8. I gotta go with the Jerkbait as well. You just have to build up the confidence to stick to it when the bite is slow. On lakes that have it I focus on steep rocky drop-offs. Caught my pb doing that just last weekend.
