  1. I do a lot of fishing in Southwest Florida a lot of the time I catch these Hard head catfish that have sharp barbs on the side and top fin, I have been barbed a couple times not and it is not fun are their any gloves I can buy that can prevent the catfish barb from puncturing the gloves?
  2. @scaleface I was getting into that kinda thing took the metal detector out to the lake but was finding nothing but pieces of beer cans that were shredded by the mower they use out there Was finding a bunch of useless stuff haven't really figured out how to use the bounty hunter 4 tracker detector correctly yet. It's basically the same when it comes to using a bait caster gotta find that sweet spot... I think I might just go back to metal detecting now for this time of year we get no snow but the weather will be a lot nicer to be out in to do some thing like that, I don't think fishing is gonna be any good now till after spawn. I personally don't want to take advantage of Bass that are spawning after seeing how a Bass will likely not come back to the spawn bed ruining the future of more Bass just isn't some thing I wanna do.
  3. Last couple of years I've been getting really soft when it comes to hurting animals, and trust me I have no problem taking the life of some thing that is threatening my life. But a fish that's not the case I do enjoy fishing but having a conscious has started to ruin me. When I was around 15ish I think I had no problem killing fish, but now day's don't wanna hurt anything or watch anything get hurt or killed, I am the same way with plants as well. I can't even cut down a plant or tree without it effecting me. Today I did catch a large mouth Bass that I ended up hooking inside where the gill is fish was blooding pretty bad, I did toss it back I was waiting to see if it was gonna come back up never did. I don't wanna keep them but have been really curious to try Bass to see what it tastes like, problem is this Lake is used for run off water is dirty and the canal that runs to the lake has been found to have Feces and Bactria in the water so honestly I'm a bit worried about eating a fish from that lake. Fish having some kinda worm that you don't see and then end up getting really bad sick months or years down the road never think about it having to do with the fish.
  4. What do you figure is happening to the Bass while it's out of water, was curious if it will be suffocating or what the whole thing would be to them. Back in the day I had no problem keeping fish but now ever since I started having a conscious I can't kill or watch a fish suffer. Almost no fun now catching Bass only to traumatize them. I've heard people say Bass are stupid but I have yet to find one that is.
  5. Just getting back into fishing again not fun fishing solo would be cool to have people to fish with, lost contact with a lot of people I used to fish with back in 1997 lost interest in fishing back in around 2002... I'll tell you about it some time. Feel free to message me even if it's months from now I'll check back once in a while. Be cool maybe to have people to do Tournaments when they come up local.
  6. Looks like you guys might be right on the knot part I'm used to doing a stick line into hook eye and spin the line 7 times then run the line into the hole at on top of the hook eye been a tie I've used for all my times fishing looked into the Palomar knot tried it out with some old line appears to be a nice a knot. Might start using that knot as my main knot. I tried doing a a Uni knot I can't get it right I ever meet up with some that knows how to do that knot have to see if they can show me how to do it. The videos are a bit confusing so where I'm doing something wrong doing the Uni knot. By the way I have some Power Pro Braided Line Moss Green spooled on to my Abu Garcia UltraMax bait caster I bought from Dick's Sporting Good's had them spool the bait caster for me I used the same knot with that line that I've been doing with the Spiderwire Braided line never had the hook slip. But I went outside not long ago and tested out the line appears the knot is slipping twice and twice the line did snap with a bit of force that I used when setting the hook. I do have new line coming and Spiderwire is spending me a replacement spool.
  7. I've been curious to know where I can take my old fishing line to dispose of it to prevent wildlife from getting tied up in it. Is there somewhere I can take it or would it be better just to burn it?
  8. Went on out Saturday I got a hit went to set the hook and my line snapped brand new Spiderwire Ultracast Invisi-Braid Superline 125-Yard/15-Pound had a 1/16 bullet weight and a Gamakatsu 2/0 offset shank worm EWG and worm lost because the line failed, I have some rubbish stock line that came with my Walmart Combo rod and reel called a Booyah 3000 ain't even really anything online about it but so far it's caught me all of my Bass. And I've yet to pop my line fact I've snagged into Lily pads and managed to push through without snapping the line Bass below is what I caught on that Booyah rod and reel. I'm not sure if the maker of Spiderwire will replace my line or if I'm just gonna have to cut my lose on $15 line and never buy another Spiderwire product again. Gonna call them today and talk to them, about it. I've lost two Bass because of this line snapping and I've lost tackle... Good thing I brought my Booyah reel that day. Anyways this is the Bass I caught on Sunday, Saturday was a bad day my only fish I would've caught I lost because the line snapped. For the size of this man made lake I think it's a decent size.
  9. Decided to give Fish and Wildlife a call since I'm in Florida, spoke to a guy who is part of the Fisheries, guy says it's not illegal to keep them as pets. You're allowed to keep them with some exceptions, that you have a fishing licences and you take no more then 5 per person. Other then that he says, yes, you can take them and keep them as a ''pet'' or have them to stock your own pond. This was allowed in Florida.
  10. I was pretty surprised that it's illegal to catch a Bass and keep it as a pet. I know many people would say why would you keep one as a pet anyways, by pet I wanted to put one in my pond in the backyard not in a fish tank, If I wanted a Bass for my fish tank I'd just buy a peacock Bass. Was interested in keeping Bass I catch and putting them in my pond saw many people were making YouTube videos of them catching Bass and putting them in fish tanks, their was a guy who had a few Bass he kept in a kiddie pool apparently his Bass died some how after Hurricane Irma.
  11. Hopefully if more people do start fishing down there I can catch a ride with someone to other spots, I haven't found a partner in crime to fish with yet. Back in 1995 I used to fish with some older guys that were cool to hang out with on a pier not long after I met them guys I found a couple of kids my age I haven't seen them guys in years the one I heard went into the Military so I'm not sure if he even made it back alive or if he is still in the Military. Just got back into fishing this year I never seen a Bass in person decided to try that spot out never was able to catch anything with fake frogs and hard plastic baits however I did end up losing at least $25 in lures to this lake. Planning to make a another stop over there this weekend possibly do another 6 hours out there, weather here in Florida is gonna be turning bad in another month Hurricane season doesn't start till June but winter here is pretty much dying out now.
  12. Ohhhh I scored today Boy's what a great day on the Lake!
  13. I guess one thing I left out is fishing from the bank side.
  14. Just got back into fishing again haven't fished in many years due to something that happen one night out fishing.. Anyways I've never seen a Bass and never caught a Bass I know this lake I fish at has Bass because many people have caught them, but they catch them on live worms something I prefer to not do, I was curious to know if any of you would happen to know of best colors or lures to use for fishing a murky lake. Another problem I have is seems these fish spook easy tried using the soft hollow body frogs, Lunkerhunt Lunker Frog Series 2.5-Inch Green Tea Style with Lunkerhunt Lunker Frog Series 2.5-Inch Leopard, Zoom Junebug red worms, Zoom baby bass worms, few others but no luck, getting any hits, I own 2 bait casters one is the Abu Garcia Ultra max on a Abu Garcia Vendetta rod I believe it's the 6.6 rod, the other bait caster is the Kast King Speed demon on a Abu Garcia Vengeance rod 7 foot. And a Walmart special the Booyah 3000. I'm not sure what pound test line is on the Booyah but the Abu Garcia Ultra Max has 20lb Moss green braided line from power pro (Guy at Dick's Sporting Good's was the one who recommended it) The Kast King Speed demon has a Berkley Vanish Fluorocarbon 14 pound test. Attached a picture of the lake. Also I'm not sure what bullet weight I should go with to increase the range of the cast currenty I've been using a 1/16 oz bullet weight when using the worms I've tried wacky rigging them tried Texas rig no luck, spent a total of 14 hours fishing on the bank this weekend and never landed any fish. I'm pretty sure on Saturday I had a hit on the frog but but didn't set the hook seems like the fish might have felt the hook and spit it out. As for hooks? I'm using 2/0 extra wide gap I also have 3/0 extra wide gap. Here is video of the lake:
