  1. I'm going to be kind of in that position in a couple weeks when I get my trailer - some assembly required. It's an Ironton PWC trailer that I'm going to replace the main tongue piece with a longer one to be able to fit my 14' canoe on what originally was a 10' trailer. Luckily I have experience in working with tube-steel, so drilling holes in the replacement piece won't be an issue.
  2. Given that it's a single-bearing system and only a 5.3:1 gear ratio, I think I'll just retire it permanently and go with the Pfleuger President I ordered as the replacement. At 6.4:1 that'll work better as my crank/jerk/spinner/chatter reel than the Ambassadeur did.
  3. I should have mentioned that - a Size 0 or maybe a 1 for that Comet.
  4. If they're recently released, they're use to their food just floating around in pellet form. Might want to try bobber fishing for them. It takes a while for their natural hunting instincts to return after they've spent time being 'coddled' in the stock-ponds. Could be a week - could be longer. I'd also suggest slow-rolling Mepps Comets - those always worked better for me than the others.
  5. I'm tapped out too...orders in shipment, but that's the end - I'm out of money and already have the PP I need for my reels. I've never had tip-wrap with 20#PP...I doubt I'll have it with the 50#
  6. I've thought of trying 832, but as I can get PP for a few dollars less than Sufix, I buy that instead. Never had an issue on my jerk/crank BC with the 20#...will see how the 50# works on my flip/pitch BC this year.
  7. Like I said, I had to scrape up the money for a replacement. Replacing reels that still work isn't an option for me. I'm on a fixed income and don't have lots of spare cash sitting around. At just under $100 for both the President reel and Avid-X rod, that was my limit, and I was lucky to be able to replace the Ambassadeur. Otherwise I wouldn't have a good spinner/jerk/crank rod and would have to 'make do' with one of my others.
  8. My question is - what do I do with the matched Garcia 500 series rod that it was on. 5'6" M/M.
  9. @Smokinal, yes it does, so that you get notified even if you haven't subscribed to the thread.
  10. Use the 'at' symbol (shift 2 on a standard keyboard) then start typing in the name. Names will show in a list that matches. Complete the typing or click on the name you want to highlight. @ (Log Catcher) Remove the first space and the parentheses. @Log Catcher
  11. Again. It depends on what species and the size when they're dropped into the water. While I HAVE landed some 4-5# Rainbows on my UL, it's not for everyone. It's a long-tough battle to get a fish who's weight is at or even slightly above the test-poundage of the line into the boat/kayak/canoe or onshore.
  12. I already have pieced it back together. It works, but turning the handle takes quite a bit of force, not like the Fuego CT I just got. I think I will put it up...just wished I'd saved a couple of my other reels. My first 'real' reel was a Mitchell 320.
  13. My old faithful Ambassadeur 500R is dead. This past year I'd noticed it getting harder to crank and just thought that a good cleaning/re-grease would fix it. It didn't. So, using a copy of the blow-apart diagram I found online, I took it apart. Pitted bearing...le sigh. I wasn't going to go to all the trouble to find replacements for a reel that old - despite there being several good sites that I probably COULD find new bearings on. So I gathered what was left of my Christmas money (from my parents) - after placing a couple orders earlier in the day - and was able to scrape enough together for a Pfleuger President 6.3:1 (the 500R was a 5.3:1) and another Aird-X rod in M/F. This was based on online reviews from multiple sources as the best under $60 reel out there. Now they're on their way - should have them in 7-10 days. I don't know whether to hang the 500R up as a tribute or what. It was a good reel and gave me almost 20 years of service.
  14. Is this for stream trout (brookies, browns, rainbows) or lake dwellers (lake, larger rainbows, steelhead)? For the former, I'd suggest 4#, for the others, 10#-12# Some might suggest 2# for the stream trout, but it's too 'loose' and apt to break off.
  15. Not me, thank you. Couple of my spinners are 40+ years old...I've never taken them down that far, and they still work just fine thank you. Cover plate off, clean it out good, re-grease and re-oil what needs to be, cover plate back on. That's my limit.
  16. I think we're talking different spools here. Most of my setups are Spinning Reels and some people have second spools for those. I don't, I just have one reel-spool for each reel. The line-spools are kept in a box unless I do empty them...except for the 4# for my UL, I buy the smaller spools that fill my reels with nothing left over.
  17. I've only got 6 setups and no spare spools. Still...I'm a 'belt and suspenders' kind of guy. I like having that backup.
  18. I'll be going through all my old jerk and crank baits this winter, replacing trebles as needed. My personal opinion - measure and replace with the same size for both split-rings and hooks. The lures were designed and tested with certain specifications - including those sizes. Changing sizes of either could affect the performance of the lure.
  19. My wife is amazed at my memory some times, but still I label as a backup because even the best memory occasionally has a 'brain-fart'.
  20. I feel so inadequate.
  21. I'm just going to order online from them. If I want to peruse stuff, there's a Cabela's about 40 minutes from my house.
  22. Agreed. I have a list on my DSG account of what I want to buy. 12 items, only 2 are carried in stock at my local store. And they wonder why the storefronts are doing worse every year.
  23. The factory packaging doesn't fit very well in divided boxes. These allow you to label each bag with what's in it. https://www.amazon.com/Zipper-White-Reclosable-Plastic-Polybag/dp/B001RE3XFC/ref=sr_1_6?s=industrial&ie=UTF8&qid=1547069151&sr=1-6&keywords=labels
  24. Little box at the top of the page labeled 'Search'.
  25. 9 - I really like that type of music - reminds me of Goth Note: Founder and lead guitarist for this group is Ritchie Blackmore - former guitarist for Deep Purple and Rainbow.
