  1. I'd be for it...but the DNR is very much about making sure there's a relatively uninterrupted spawn to insure continued presence. So they set those dates up for that reason...it was only after a thorough survey after fishers complained that they opened the C&R season.
  2. Creamy - don't like picking pieces of nuts out from between my teeth.
  3. Worse here in MN. Bass opens for C&R only on May 11 (Mother's Day weekend). Finally get to keep them starting May 25 (Memorial Day weekend). It is a BIT of an improvement...years ago you couldn't even target them until Memorial Day weekend.
  4. Carrot Stiks have only been around a dozen years or so. My 25+ year old Berkley Enforcer has EVA grips...or something VERY much like it.
  5. Aglias and Comets are the main ones I use...got burned on another brand - blade kept pausing on retrieve. For inline spinner-baits, it's Mepps or nothing for me.
  6. I'm using a President 25 on a 6'6" rod myself...I'm so use to my old Pflueger 640 (which I retired and replaced with the President) that I have no problems getting an inline spinner to turn. For the line - he could go that route or lay a backing on the spool...few turns of electrical tape maybe to give it a non-slip base.
  7. He was looking for something faster than the Sahara 1000. The President 20 is much slower at only 20.2 IPT and if the Summit compares to the other '25' spinning reels, it's not much faster at around 22 IPT. Need to hit the 30 or 35s from Pflueger to get faster than the 27 IPT of the Sahara.
  8. Question: What pound test braid are you using? Ever consider Mono? I'd never use braid for a UL rig, it's too thin for the pound test I set up on my UL rig...digs in to itself. The 1000R retrieves at 27" per turn of the handle, that's fairly fast for smaller-spool spinning reels. Reels in the same price range as the Sahara with faster retrieves. Mitchell 308 Pro - 30.5" per turn. Pflueger President XT 30 - 31" per turn. Abu Garcia Elite Max 20 - 31.3" per turn. I'm a Pfluger/Mitchell/Abu fan from way back.
  9. I agree with the Fuego CTs, but I'd get a better rod for both...Diawa Aird-X's aren't much more expensive but I think would be an improvement over the Berkleys. For the spinning rigs, I'd step it up. Mitchell 300 series Pros are great reels and there are a couple combos that I think would work great Mitchell 310 Pro Combo 7' L rod - $90 (direct from Mitchell) Mitchell 308 Pro Combo 6'6" M rod - $90 (direct from Mitchell) That'll cover almost everything. The L and M spinning setups have overlap on lure/line weight and would allow even lighter presentations than the ML rig.
  10. I spread the peanut butter on one slice, the jelly on the other slice, then put them together. Polanar All-Fruit seedless blackberry...nothing else compares.
  11. Glenn's already posted a good one...print it out and put it in a 3-ring binder. Or print it half-size and it fits into a Franklin-Covey Classic size...which is what I did. https://www.bassresource.com/fish/fishing_log.html
  12. The Month Long KBF State Challenge(s) for MN looks interesting. It's nice that they allow canoes and electric motors - the other Kayak group that's operating a tourney in MN restricts it to Kayaks ONLY and manual propulsion. Unfortunately, the fee to join the group to be eligible combined with the fee for the challenge itself puts it out of my reach for this year...maybe next year.
  13. This is from a few years ago here in MN...for crappies and sunnies. "On Tuesday, Becker County charged the six anglers, from two Bedford, Indiana, families, with misdemeanor overfishing. It’s a crime punishable with a $1,000 fine and up to 90 days in jail. If convicted of overfishing, it will be expensive. On top of the fine and potential jail time, there is restitution of $5 per fish. That’s roughly 34-hundred dollars on top of loss of fishing privileges for three years — both in Minnesota and their home state of Indiana." https://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2015/08/11/six-indiana-vacationers-charged-with-676-fish-over-minnesota-limit/ I think the fine and restitution needs to be higher...but loss of fishing license for 3 years is a good start
  14. Soft Plastics: Black/Blue flake, Green Pumpkin, Canada Craw as main - other random colors as sides Crankbaits: Baby Bass, Bluegill, Crawdad, Perch as main - several others as fill ins. Jerkbaits: Silver, Blue, Orange/Gold Spinners/Buzz/Chatters: Black, Bluegill, Craw Inline Spinners (Mepps Comets): Shad, Rainbow Jigs: Black/Blue, Craw, White
  15. Weather tops solunar by a large margin.
  16. Everything except a couple minor, piddly things is done. Posted pics of finished work in 'Show Your Ride'
  17. And she's done - shown in 'launch' mode...if I had tabs on the trailer, I could go out today. Pick those up sometime this week. Throw cushion for emergencies is wedged between a milk crate...where I keep the anchor when not in use, and my net...and the wall of the canoe. Main tackle bag does not fit beneath the seat, so it's going next to the battery under the mid-ship work table. Couple little things to do, but nothing that'd stop me from going out on the lake.
  18. I buy a rod based on two things: Is it the power and action I want and is it in my budget. The grip material is immaterial to me...both do the job. Right now I have 4 EVA and 1 Cork, and it really doesn't matter.
  19. Trailer assembled - all that's left now is wiring it and a couple piddly things...like mounting my gimbaled cup holder for my coffee.
  20. Couple neighbors...including the guy who uses my backyard to store his boat in the summer...did the same. Never an issue with the local lake patrol.
  21. I knew Cooks Bay was clear, but I hadn't passed by the others today...yesterday there was still some black, honeycomb ice on the others but I knew it wouldn't be long before that was gone.
  22. I go for strength primarily, diameter is a secondary concern. For tossing into heavy weeds (pitch/flip/frog/punch) I want line that's strong enough to rip through the weeds, so I'm going 50# there. For general tossing of cranks/jerks/spinners/chatters/buzz and weighted T-Rigs I go 20#. For my budget-minded wallet - Power Pro Spectra has been fine. Hasn't let me down yet, so I keep using it.
  23. Jazzing it up a little to...replaced the crappy looking black on white block lettering Reg No with custom vinyl lettering. Original New
  24. Besides the TM and battery? Maybe 15lbs...which brings it to 100. Add the TM and battery and probably about 150-160 total. Since it's trailered - almost finished putting that together - it's not an issue.
  25. I'm on a limited budget...the Maxx was outside my spending limit. Also - looking over the specs and given how much time I actually spend on the water each trip - my 75AH Deep Cycle will be enough to power the C2 for a trip.
