All fish above a certain size get netted, and it's a judgement call as they get close. I've certainly netted fish below that threshold, but I've never line-landed any above.

On a spinning reel, when it hits the water, I'll do a tip sweep from level to overhead with the bail open to let out enough line for the lure to fall straight down...then close the bail. Baitcaster, I'll manually haul out a length of line before engaging the reel.

If you can't adjust the tension, return it cause it's broke. The 'Zero Adjust' is their way of saying 'We set it to what we like it to be'...doesn't mean you can't reset it to something else that suits your style better.

While I mainly prefer a simple broil of fish, one of my all time favorites is Cajun Blackened Salmon - as @Catt says, the spices are not overpowering, but really bring out the flavor.

Your tree - your responsibility. Had a similar situation here several years ago. Tree in the empty lot behind me got blown over in a storm, ended up in my yard. Took a bit to find out who the owner was, but after some back-and-forth, the city attorney informed him that as it came from his property, he was responsible for removing it from mine.

If it's working for you - there's nothing wrong with it...Aird X is a good rod, I still have two in my arsenal that I use.
