  1. Personally, I like a short/XF rod for jerks....I'm running a Victory 6'8" M/XF for my jerkbaits I know some like a MF action for jerks....while the jerk rod KVD designed for Lews is a MH/F I think pretty much anything will do, long as you can get the cadence down and don't set the hook too hard with the heavier rod so you don't pull out or straighten hooks.
  2. All depends on the tackle I'm using and where. Finesse - slight sweep and reel set. Cranks/Jerks - Maybe a 2 or 3 on the 'swing scale'. Jigs - up to a 5-6 for the stouter hooks. Frogs - 4...maybe a 5. Pitch/Punch - swing like I'm trying to put one over the 'Green Monster'.

  4. Joe, you gotta stop talking about yourself that way....jeez man....
  5. I'm just wondering how many fish made it back into the water alive.
  6. Lightly tap the transom with a hammer....if it sounds hollow, there's probably rot under the 'glass', and give it a hard pass. Check for cracks along the seams - main places are where the transom joins the main hull...another pass here. Look for affordable aluminum boats...even an old 3-seat fishing boat will get you on the water. Course if you're handy, you can convert it too. I'm also on SSI and using a bit of spare money I turned one of the above into this.

  8. Technically it is....it's not like it's multiple strands twisted or woven together like thread, string, rope or (gasp) braid. We made nylon in college chemistry class, and it's lots of fine filaments that bond together to create the 'monofilament' that we all know. It is a 'monofilament' as you really can't separate them. Just that everyone is use to calling Nylon line 'mono', where-as in reality it's also a bonded bunch of filaments.
  9. ya...most hybrids are just nylon with a coating of flouro, YZH goes that extra step.
  10. It's when a rocker gets brainwashed....happens sometimes. Need to listen to decent music
  11. Ummm...LMB season is open until Feb 23 - just like Walleye and Northern. SMB went C&R only on Sept 9 until Feb 23, then closed like the rest. The way it's going, we might have ice-out before the season closes.
  12. I think my two best colors in my faved Pit Boss are Skeet's Chartreuse Shad Green Haze Last good color I think is mainstream Senko (or equivalent) in Green Pumpkin w/Black Flake.
  13. Just be prepared for the problem, Katie...big head on little body will give you 'such a crick in the neck'
  14. Keeps going like this and I might still be shore fishing on my B-Day - 35 days and counting.
  15. I'll get the Mighty Max through Home Depot...
  16. That was a big danger with Lithium-Ion batteries, but LiFePo4 batteries are by nature, much safer...I wouldn't worry about fires even from a 'cheap' LiFePo4 battery.
  17. Can I say 'Yuck!'
  18. Weighted plastic swimbaits (paddletail on a jig-head?) I classify as 'jigs'...so no Hard swim/glidebaits - I think I answered that - the Bucca Baby line is just that. So long as the lure weight is in (or close to) the guideline of the rod, you should be okay. If it says 3/4oz max...1oz isn't out of the question, just don't try to cast it into the next county....1.5oz would be out of the question.
  19. Oh - MH/MF can be a cranking stick, especially squarebills and lipless - but the MF action is also very useful for spinner/chatterbaits, Light to Moderate cover pitching/flipping, moving topwaters like Whopper Ploppers/Choppos and small hard swimbaits like the Bucca Baby Bull Shad, Baby Bull Gill and Baby Bull Rat. I wouldn't use it for jigs, T/C rigs or anything else requiring quick actions like jerkbaits/spooks, but it's a fairly versatile rod.
  20. Tell that to the Mississippi up here, cause I don't think it got the message...that sucker freezes over just about every winter and shuts down the barge traffic. Mississippi river looking at the Minneapolis skyline from Boom Island. Or how about Minnehaha Falls? That solid mass just left of center is the frozen waterfall...the bridge over the stream is above it....stream and waterfall frozen solid.
  21. One thing to remember - the Tatula CT is just a Fuego CT with the T-Wing....otherwise they're identical...so compare the SLX with the Fuego.
  22. When I finally get the money together, Russ? That's the big question.
  23. You and her are in my thoughts, Andy.
  24. And here I was looking to upgrade to an Xi3 because it had the features I wanted, was more affordable than MinnKota with the same features, and solid performance based on reviews....now what do I do?
