  1. What's the point of having an anchor line several times deeper than the depth of the water? It seems like if you get blown 20 feet away from your spot then the anchor will stop you but don't you want to be stopped by the anchor before you drift away from your spot?
  2. Thanks, I'm actually planning on getting a wheel carrier for it because I'm planning on fishing ponds nearby and I won't be able to get it in our car.
  3. Thanks! Question, when using an anchor trolley, how do you decide how much rope to use? Everyone seems to recommend using a rope much longer than the depth of the water but I don't see why.
  4. I've been planning to get a real fishing kayak for a while now but I just took my standard kayak (no rod holders, very unstable, gets blown around a lot, etc.) out fishing the other day to get a feel for what it was like and it was just impossible to fish out of. I had to grab my paddle to get the kayak back into place very five seconds, I couldn't cast out of it, my back hurt from the seat, and every other thing like that you can imagine. Is fishing out of a real fishing kayak like this at all or does the stability, seat comfort, weight of the kayak eliminate all those things? I just like for everything to be simple. (I carry only one rod when I go bank fishing)
  5. Are you sure your scale isn't measuring over?
  6. Welcome! If you need any help with buying gear then feel free to ask me because that's my specialty. ?
  7. I was talking more about fishing senkos where you can't keep your line tight like you can with a jig though. Meanwhile, it's 85 degrees here.
  8. So you more experienced guys probably already know this, but to anybody relatively new to the sport: when fishing any slow moving presentation, WATCH YOUR LINE. I never used to do this but I've fished a lot of senkos recently and I've noticed that a lot of times I don't feel a thing and my line just starts moving off or ticks sometimes. This happened to me again today and I probably would have hooked him deep if I hadn't been watching my line but I knew right away when he bit. (got off near the bank unfortunately, but...) Hope this helps somebody.
  9. I tried a kastmaster from the bank today and it seems like it would be a great lure for jigging out deep. Never tried it from a boat though.
  10. Tatula CT or Shimano SLX are both great choices.
  11. This is exactly why I never keep bass. I've actually never kept a freshwater fish. Nothing against people who do though.
  12. Nice fish! Are those spotted bass? I think I can finally tell the difference between those and largemouth now. ?
  13. Do they make a shallow version? Edit: Actually it looks like the regular version is 4 - 6 feet. I thought it was 10 feet for some reason.
  14. Ok, I meant which one did you want me to add though?
  15. Which one? Wouldn't you say you keep some fish rather than keep all fish then?
  16. Understatement of the century award goes to... ?
  17. Have you tried Rapala X-raps? They're $10 but they have amazing action. They really do slash back and forth like a walking bait if you twitch them just right.
  18. They might be spawning right now. They are in Alabama.
  19. My dad says that the people on here that spend so much time fishing do it because they like eating fish. He doesn't believe that you guys actually spend the amount of money and time on fishing that you do just for the enjoyment of it. So I know most people probably keep some crappie or catfish or something from time to time, but how many of you actually keep all (or most) of your fish, and fish just because you like eating fish? I have to prove that I'm not insane for dropping $100 on a new SLX. I've never kept a freshwater fish because I would be nervous eating them out of the ponds around here.
  20. I tried a walking bait but they wouldn't even look at it. I'll give a prop bait a go if they won't bite the soft plastics though. Thanks!
  21. I might try a fluke because I want to be able to see it underwater. Ever tried that?
  22. I haven't caught a fish in weeks and I figured out why today. I found two bass (one of them huge) sitting on a nest right by the bank. I flipped a paddletail right next to them but they were in between some rocks so I couldn't tell where the nest was. I'm planning on going back soon but I don't know where the nest is. What should I do? (and yes, I plan on using barbless hooks and releasing him back to his nest right away.)
  23. Had she been caught, held vertically, and then caught again before?
