  1. Thanks. I was literally tying a spinnerbait on while reading this, so I'll try that technique out today. Also, how do you generally fish willow leaf spinnerbaits when it's about 65 degrees?
  2. Nope, although a few years ago I lost my rod on a cast. (don't ask)
  3. See above reply. I think we commented at the same time so my reply was first.
  4. I ended up fishing a frog most of the time and didn't get any strikes. I saw something swimming behind it for a few seconds once though... I tried that, but it was still hitting the bottom every time. I'm guessing it's about 3' to 4' deep in the middle. Oh, sorry, I thought you were referring to crankbaits.
  5. Yeah, I've been thinking about a jerkbait but I haven't found one that would be shallow enough for the pond I fish. I was fishing a 4' - 6' diving crankbait yesterday and it was snagging leaves/weeds/sticks even on my slowest retrieve.
  6. Thanks, I ended up watching a bass smack my lure from the side without getting hooked. (Less than a foot off the shore) The exact same thing happened to me last week, in the same spot...
  7. As I said to BCline, I was confused, as someone told me to "fish the west bank, (whichever bank the wind was blowing towards)" or something like that.
  8. I was just confused, because somebody told me to "fish the west bank, (whichever bank the wind was blowing towards)"
  9. Thanks. I've heard that you need a medium action to keep from ripping the hooks out on a crankbait, but I guess that's not necessary. I'm just glad I can use my white bird with cranks.
  10. Question: Would a fast action work with squarebills?
  11. Any tips on catching bass in the summer? It's going to be 80 degree highs where I live pretty soon, and 90 not long after that so I'm wondering how I'm going to catch them when it's that warm. What kind of lures should I use? And where should I be fishing? The pond I fish is pretty shallow, with not very much visible cover. Thanks in advance.
  12. The froggin' days will come...
  13. Going froggin' in a tiny pond full of shallow cover today. Sunny and 65 degrees. Can't wait to go...
  14. Thanks. How do you find the west side of the pond? Using a compass, or what?
  15. I'm going fishing in a small pond today, (55 degrees at the time I'm going to get there) but it was only 45 for the high yesterday, which is much colder than the average high temperature recently. Will the bass still be active? And how should I fish for them? I would usually fish a frog because of all the shallow cover, but I'm wondering if they're deeper because of the weather.
  16. Thanks, by the way, what do you think of the white bird?
  17. Thanks. I guess I'll go with the fast action then.
  18. I'm about to order the White Bird casting rod from Favorite Rods, (Free shipping for 24 hours ) but I can't decide if I should get the 7'4" Moderate Action, or the 7'0" Fast action. It would mainly be used for spinnerbaits, texas rigs, jigs, and frogs. Which would be better for those applications? Thanks in advance.
  19. Thanks for all the replies. By the way, has anyone used the River2Sea Spittin' Wa? I'm leaning towards either that, or the pad crasher.
  20. Yeah, I've heard it's one of the best. And I meant an upgrade in quality to, say, a Spro, or Livetarget.
  21. The $100+ swimbaits probably have much better action and quality than a $10 kind, but I would rather just get a new rod if I have 200 bucks to spend.
  22. I've been frog fishing a lot recently, but the only frog I have is a booyah pad crasher Jr. I'm looking to upgrade soon, but I can't decide which one to get. Any suggestions? And are the LiveTarget frogs worth it? I fish a medium sized, shallow pond with a small amount of cover.
  23. Huh, guess I'll be going to BassPro for one of those soon then. I never bought one before because I was thinking it would be too hard to walk. Also, do you have a favorite brand? The only frog I have now is the booyah pad crasher, and it's a great frog, but I would be willing to pay more to get one that would last longer, catch more bass, etc. if there's one that can out fish it.
  24. In general, never use a topwater with treble hooks. They tend to get swallowed, and with a single hook you can usually get it out, but two trebles in the throat can cause a lot of "treble" . For topwater I would use a buzzbait, they're pretty fast moving, so they're less likely to be swallowed, but when they are, you shouldn't have much trouble getting it out if you smash the barb down before using it. Good luck!
  25. Can you walk it like a regular frog? If so, is it easy to walk? I've been looking into the popping frogs but I can't decide if I wan't one..
