  1. Never hooked my self in my life. My brother once hooked me with a circle hook though...
  2. Thanks, what do you usually target? There are a few weed beds along the shore, and that's all. (for cover)
  3. Casting, or pitching?
  4. Update: Got some braid, thanks for all the replies here though.
  5. Just bought a 7' medium heavy fast action rod. Would that be ideal for frogs? (sorry for replying on a year old forum...)
  6. Does anyone else fish flipping jigs from the bank? If so, does it seem effective? I've always just flipped them around weeds around the bank and gotten a couple bites. Would something else be a better choice for shore fishing? I've heard that KVD grew up fishing jigs from the bank.
  7. I'm leaning towards just using something else until I can get more braid. Any suggestions for a lure?
  8. Yeah, are there any lures that work better with mono than with with braid/flouro? I could try a crankbait, or spinnerbait or something.
  9. I guess I'll try it today and hope it doesn't break. I've heard that the breaking strengths are usually higher than advertised...
  10. Yeah, I definitely prefer braid now that I've used it. But just for line strength, would it be sufficient?
  11. Going frog fishing today but I used up the last of my braid yesterday... Will 14 pound Stren monofilament work? I'm going to be using a Pad Crasher Jr. in open water. I know heavy braid is usually necessary because of the cover, and size of the frog, but will the 14lb mono work under these conditions? Thanks.
  12. Do they tend to swallow the poppers? I have a #10 booglebug from Orvis but the one time I used it, a little one choked it. The problem is, it was as wide as it's mouth, so it took me about a full minute to get it out with forceps...
  13. Actually tried one of those today, on my last cast something blew up on it just below the surface. Missed him on the hookset though.
  14. Yeah, I've heard that you can imitate that by using the stop/go retrieve. Ever tried that?
  15. A few days ago I tried fishing my new KVD 1.5 squarebill (4' to 6' depth) and on every cast I was pulling up weeds/leaves from the bottom. So I decided to buy the KVD 1.0 squarebill, which dives to 4' max. it doesn't hit the bottom, eliminating the problem with leaves, but I don't know how to fish it if it's not hitting the bottom. Should I try a stop/go retrieve, or straight retrieve? Fast or slow? Thanks.
  16. For me, it would definitely be a Texas rig or spinnerbait.
  17. Thanks.
  18. Thanks. I didn't have my phone with me, but I would estimate about 6 pounds. About the size of my old PB, but much fatter.
  19. Went out for about 1 - 1.5 hours today and stepped about a foot away from a (very cleverly hiding) rattlesnake as soon as I got there... Ten minutes later I caught my new PB though. I thought I'd foul hooked a grass carp it fought so hard... Also caught one smaller one a few minutes after that. Both were caught on a T-rig zoom lizard. Edit: I noticed that it's tail fin looked pretty beat up. Could it have been on a bed? I caught it about 4 feet off the shore.
  20. Thanks for all the replies here. By they way, is it ok to dunk a reel in freshwater? I accidentally dropped my rod in a pond for a few seconds...
  21. Around a year ago I bought an Abu Garcia black max baitcasting reel, and it's been used a lot, so does it need to be oiled or anything? I've never oiled it, or done anything else like that. I've heard that you need to add some reel oil to it once every 3 - 4 months or so... Is that true?
  22. What video was that? I must have missed it.
  23. Does anybody know of a good recipe for hot dogs as bait for channel catfish? I've heard to use jello, garlic powder, etc. I need something that will keep the bait on the circle hook. I'm going fishing for channel cats tomorrow, but in the past, the piece of hot dog flies off when I cast... Thanks in advance.
  24. Well, as soon as I got there, I stepped in a hole and fell onto the concrete. I scraped my entire left arm from the shoulder down pretty badly. I can't even use my left arm to type this...
  25. Thanks, I'll try that. I think I'm going to start out with a willow blade and fast retrieve, and then switch to a Colorado and a slower retrieve if that's not working.
