  1. Thinking about buying a Dobyns Fury 702 for finesse fishing. I'm planing on using a lot of dropshots and ned rigs, but I also want something that could handle small wacky rigs, and possibly shaky heads. Could the 702 handle all those things? I'm using 15 pound braid with an 8 pound flouro leader. I'll probably be fishing around some light cover.
  2. Oh. So do you think the M/F would be a better option for dropshot/ned rigs?
  3. Thanks. I'll probably with TW if they have a sale. Do you have any of the Fury rods? If so, do they seem heavier than the rating? Looks like they're generally a lot heavier than the rod power rating.
  4. Thanks. That Dobyns Fury looks nice. Where do they have it on sale during the 4th? Tackle warehouse?
  5. Thank you. I'll try that.
  6. Well I missed that, but ok.
  7. Experience, experience, experience. Pick one bait, (ideally a texas rig) watch as many videos on it as you can, and then just fish it. Also, try to fish somewhere that has a good bass population. It'll make things a lot easier. Edit: Almost forgot. Fish shallow cover. Trust me, it works. There will be fish in shallow cover on a bright summer day.
  8. Was there something funny in there...? ?
  9. Thanks. That was helpful, but I can't quite figure out what he's saying about the "swim glide and shake" retrieve. Any advice on that?
  10. About to buy a spinning rod for finesse bass fishing (ned rig, dropshot, wacky rig, etc.) but I just can't decide on a rod. I'm leaning towards the shimano clarus, but I want to make sure there's nothing better for the price before buying it. As long as it has the same handle style as the clarus I'll consider it. It also has to come in a ML/F. Thanks in advance for any good recommendations.
  11. haha, yeah. Wouldn't be surprised if I hooked her again sometime because it's a pretty small pond.
  12. Wow. When I started fishing I didn't know what drag was. Luckily I didn't hook anything. Probably would've broken off.
  13. Oh. 8 - 9 was my estimate. Both times I said "about". I didn't get a weight, just an estimated length before releasing it.
  14. Where? I honestly don't know what you're talking about.
  15. Yeah, I'll try. That pond is full of monsters so I'll definitely land a few more 6+ pounders there. (even if I never hook that one again)
  16. Walking baits. I don't see many people throwing those, but then again, I don't see many people fishing at the ponds I fish, so...
  17. Congrats! I remember when you were at 50K or so...
  18. I believe it's a "badonk-a-donk"...
  19. Yeah, there are multiple potential PBs in that pond. I've landed several in the 7 pound range, and my PB was about 9 pounds. Also, trust me, I didn't exaggerate the fight at all. It really did fight harder than any fish I've ever hooked. I thought I'd fould hooked a carp for a while, and then it jumped...
  20. Is that sarcasm? If not, I apologize. It's just that everytime I post something that involves me catching a 4+ lb. bass, 99% of the comments are people saying it didn't happen, it probably wasn't really a good fish, etc. etc.
  21. Thanks bud.
  22. Today I decided to try skip casting because I just could not get a bite. I made a few terrible skips, and then started to figure it out. After a while, I skipped one out near some cover and immediately hooked a dink. A little while later, I was about to leave and decided to make one last cast. Skipped it into some cover and something thumped it, so I set the hook. That fish fought like no other. I really was struggling to keep from being pulled into the water for about 30 seconds. I had mostly locked down my drag since I was fishing a jig, but that thing was pulling line like my spool was open. I had to tighten it down as much as possible in the middle of the fight just to slow it a little. It finally decided to swim towards the bank, and I just kept reeling as it got closer. It finally got about a foot off the bank and with one last enormous jump, through the jig at me and swam off. I know most of you won't believe me, but my honest estimate would be 13 pounds. My previous PB of about 8 pounds felt like a dink during the fight compared to that beast. Probably never would have landed him if he hadn't decided to start swimming towards me. Even with a MH/F rod and 40LB. braid.
  23. I know I said to throw a walking bait before, but I've recently discovered something more fun than that. (It can actually get you some bites when they aren't biting sometimes too) Skip casting. Once you master it, it's addicting. It can also be really useful if you need to get a lure under a dock. I hooked my PB today doing that. He got off at the bank though...
  24. About to buy my first finesse rod. (ML/F Shimano Clarus) I'm planning on throwing the ned rig a lot, but I have one question. How do you retrieve it? I've watched a lot of videos on it, but none of them seem to explain how to retrieve it. Should I just hop it, drag it, or what? I'm fishing a shallow pond with fairly stained water. Also, is it more effective in deeper water, or shallow water? (in the summer) Thanks in advance.
