  1. There are a lot of herons here. I wonder if that could be it...?
  2. It was the white whale, bro.
  3. Yup. I've tried tiny poppers, giant spooks, and everything in between. Also tried buzzbaits and frogs.
  4. I've been fishing the same pond for a couple years now because it's the only one in walking distance. In that time, I've spent hours upon hours fishing topwater, and only had one topwater bite. Even in the spring when I know they're in shallow cover I can throw a frog/spook/popper on the edges of cover for thirty minutes without a bite, then pitch a jig to the same spot and catch one on my first cast. I've tried it early in the morning, at sunset, at night, and everything in between and still only one bite on any kind of topwater since I started bass fishing this pond a couple years ago. It's just confusing. So does topwater just not work in some ponds?
  5. Alright. Thanks. I'm going to go with the HS then.
  6. I'm about to get a Daiwa Fuego CT from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Daiwa-Fuego-Baitcasting-FGCT100HSL-Black/dp/B06VWMR5S3/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1541341867&sr=8-1&keywords=daiwa%2Bfuego%2Bct&th=1&psc=1) But if you look at the different models, there's an H at the end of one, HS at the end of another, XS at the end of one, etc. What does all that mean?
  7. I would go with the MH if you have another frog set aside for really heavy cover. I use a MH for all of my jigs.
  8. Seaguar Red Label is amazing for the price. It should be on sale for $12.00 at Dick's Sports.
  9. If you think they've gone deep you should tie on a lipless crank and just launch it out there. Those things cast miles.
  10. Yeah, I was catching somewhere around one per hour in the spring and about 1 per two hours in the summer. Then they just disappeared up until yesterday, when I finally got a couple bites.
  11. Thanks. I'm going back out today with a chatterbait to just cover the shallows and see if they're still there. One bite and I'll switch to a texas rig and try to pick them off.
  12. I've been fishing a lot all fall and haven't had a bite all fall until today. It's been pretty steadily around 65 - 80 down here, but today the temperatures just plummeted down to the 40s. The water got a lot clearer since a couple days ago. I went fishing this afternoon and almost got the rod pulled out of my hand on my first cast. (I panicked and set the hook with about four feet of slack line, of course) The thing is, my T-rig was about a foot off the bank no where near cover. Pretty soon I casted near some weeds right off the bank, almost got the rod pulled out of my hand again, and set the hook way too late; lost that one too. Then I moved out to the deep part of the pond for a while and didn't see any signs of fish life. I thought they were supposed to go deep in the winter...? They're in the same spots that I was catching them in all spring and they are active. There were ripples, splashes, wakes, etc. everywhere in the shallows. This is not normal. ?
  13. Never tried this one but I'm thinking about it: https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Spro_BBZ-1_Swimbait_8_Slow_Sink/descpage-SPBBZS.html It looks really good for $35.
  14. Yeah. Honestly I'm really looking forward to winter fishing at this point. ?
  15. Would you be willing to adopt a son? ?
  16. Thanks. Would that be preferred for jerkbaits/lipless crankbaits, or would a moderate action be better?
  17. I've only used right handed, so I'm going to stick with that. Still, $75 is a pretty good price for one of those.
  18. I'm looking to get a new rod for Christmas. I currently have a ML/F and a MH/F. I want a baitcaster that I can fish jerkbaits, flukes, finesse T-rigs, shaky heads, and lipless cranks on. What rod power/action would cover those best? I was initially going to get a Medium/Moderate but it occurred to me that a moderate action wouldn't be best for shaky heads, flukes, etc. so I don't know what I know now. ? Any advice?
  19. I thought about that, but they have one in Amazon for 75.00. Too bad amazon doesn't have 20% off everything for BF.
  20. Yeah, I think I'm going to go with that. Do you know what the cheapest way I can get one besides Ebay is?
  21. I couldn't spot a bus in 16 inches of water around here.
  22. Thanks for all the replies. Has anyone else tried the Kastking Spartacus Plus?
  23. My top 3 would be jerkbaits, jerkbaits, and jerkbaits, but if those don't work, T-rig.
  24. Replacing my Abu Garcia blackmax for Christmas this year. I'm getting a Berkeley Lightning Shock rod and some new reel but I can't decide on the reel. It'll be used for basically everything, so I want something that's good all around. What would you guys choose in that price range?
  25. I tried that and it did reduce the backlash but I lost a lot of casting distance. It's a 5' diver and I'm fishing from the bank so I'm just trying to get it as far out as possible. MH/F Favorite Rods White Bird with an Abu Garcia Blackmax reel. I had 15LB. Seaguar Red Label on the reel, and an X-rap tied on.
