  1. I'm about to order my replacement. I tried one in the store the other day and it really was smooth.
  2. Black max spinning reel. Seriously though, pflueger trion and pflueger president are both great for the price.
  3. Thanks! ? Thanks! I usually fish jigs pretty slowly, but the reason I was burning it in was because I was practicing pitching. I wasn't really trying/expecting to catch anything. ?
  4. You didn't buy anything though, right? ?
  5. Congrats! Nice fish.
  6. Thank you!
  7. Thank you. I used to have a rapala but the paint started peeling off for some reason, so I’ll need to get another one.
  8. Thanks for all the answers. I didn't end up going to that pond because I ran out of time, but I went to my regular pond and caught this one:
  9. Decided to go out to practice pitching today with one of my custom jigs from @cadman. I was just pitching, burning the jig back in, repeat, repeat, etc. After a while, a giant smacked the jig right as I was pulling it out of the water to pitch again; I panicked and almost dropped the rod, of course, so it got away. I then pitched it back out a few feet and this one smacked it: I know it's an awkward picture; it's been so long since I caught a good fish that I completely panicked. ?
  10. Actually, what does everyone think about a swimjig? I got a custom made one from @cadman that looks really nice but I haven't gotten to try it yet. I forgot I even had it but I just rediscovered it a few days ago and this seems like a good situation to use it.
  11. Alright, I'm going to try a jig first but I'll definitely take along a spinnerbait and try that out while I'm there. Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah. I fished fairly heavy cover with a ned rig all summer on my finesse rig. 6# - 8# line and I only broke off once when I made a bad cast right back into the weeds and something bit it while I was tangled in the weeds. That was probably stretching my luck though. (and my line to the point of breaking) So that's mainly why I have confidence in lighter line than I used to.
  12. Might work. Is this a good time of year for spinnerbaits?
  13. Thank you. I'll probably try to get some braid soon.
  14. I've landed 5+ pound bass in heavy cover with that line and it's never failed me.
  15. Problem is, I'm going tomorrow and I don't have any of those things. Thanks! Do you think a jig work as a substitute for the T-rig? Because the heaviest weights I have are 3/16th oz. but I have 1/2 oz. jigs. I'll let you know how it goes.
  16. I'm going to a new pond tomorrow that's on the edge of some woods. I stopped by it on the way home from playing soccer today and I noticed that there's a lot of shoreline cover. There's about 5 - 10 feet of thick grass/vegetation growing away from the bank around most of the pond. I want to fish the cover because I think that's where the fish will be, but I feel like the fish are just going to get wrapped up in the vegetation after I hook them and I'll probably end up getting snagged in the cover if I tried to fish right in it, but I think it's my only option. Any suggestions for lures and/or techniques in this situation? I have only 12 lb. flouro right now so I'm concerned about breaking off with a frog, but it's probably strong enough to fish a small flipping jig.
  17. I didn't know that either. I don't see one on the Dobyn's website.
  18. You really can't go wrong with the Dobyn's Fury. It's an amazing rod for the price.
  19. You just eliminated a lot of really effective lures.
  20. I used them for months and caught a lot of good sized bass in cover on them. Never had one bend or break at all.
  21. Problem with returning it is that it had that awful plastic packaging that you have to tear up to get the reel out; I foolishly used a pocket knife instead of scissors so it's even worse.
  22. I don't think so. I tried spinning it again and this time I got about four rotations from a good spin; I guess I didn't spin it very hard earlier. Do you think it could be because it's such a small reel?
  23. I don't know if I would describe it as a grinding. It's really faint but it's not completely silent.
  24. Just picked up a Pflueger Trion 20 for my ultralight combo and when I spin the reel handle really hard it rotates maybe 1 time after that and then slows to a stop really fast. I can also hear a really faint grinding sound when I spin it. Does it sound like I got a faulty reel, or is it not greased well, or is it supposed to do that?
  25. I always use a 1/16. As for the rod, the link you posted would work fine, but you could probably get a much better one for the money if you went with a brand like Lew's, St Croix, KastKing, etc. I avoid generic brand amazon rods because I definitely don't think they're as good as a Lew's rod or something. My ned rig rod is a ML Dobyns Fury and it's a great rod. It's a little more than the one you posted, but if you're willing to spend an extra $30 or so, I would definitely recommend it. Edit: Now that I look at it more, it looks like Cadence is actually a fishing company; I'd never heard of them before. Anyway, I'd say if you like that rod then buy it. It looks like pretty good quality.
