  1. I am certainly more comfortable with braid as thats what I typically use and this morning looked up how to tie the Alberto knot and have tied it three times in a row with no issues. How long of a leader do you typically use? Is it better to just have a couple feet and tie the knot every time I go fishing or do you spool lets say 100 yards so you only have to tie the knot once?
  2. I am planning on using my 6'6" Medium spinning rod and 6' ML spinning rod for more river fishing in NC in the Charlotte area. I want to spool the reels with 6 lb test but should I spool it with fluro or mono? I would consider 10 or 15 lb braid to fluro or mono but I don't know how to tie the knots and sometimes using a barrel swivel can be a pain. My goal would be to catch smallies but no idea if that's even realistic in my area so would be happy to use mostly the ML rod and catch any species I can in the rivers. Thanks for the help!
  3. What is the best rod out there to get started with surf casting in the Boston and Cape Cod Area? I would like to spend under $200 on the rod, want something that is light weight and can cast far. My guess is I'll be using 3/4oz to 2oz lures. Two piece rod would be ideal Thanks!
  4. @Mr. Aquarium I haven't heard much about the herring run there so thats great to know. I'll keep in mind to look for the shallow muddy areas. Thanks!
  5. How is the Taunton River for striper fishing? Both for early season schoolies/ holdovers and mid-season full grown stripers? I have family just south of Dighton Rock so that is where I would put my kayak in. Thanks!
  6. I was planning on getting a Pflueger Trion, the second I picked it up and BassPro I loved it and the reviews are awesome. Would ML be too much? I was looking at a 6' ML at BP.
  7. Is there a rod size/ action/ power that would work well for both trout and crappie? I mostly fish for bass and would like to add just one rod that could be used for crappie and trout- is that possible? Price would be under $100 for rod and reel. I would be fishing mostly in ponds but would want to try streams for trout. Thanks guys!
  8. That's exactly what I am thinking. The two ponds I will fish are the two main ponds that I typically fish so I have the main spots already picked out
  9. I saw that on a couple of the youtube videos I watched on ice fishing. Is a flasher completely necessary?
  10. I am going to start ice fishing this year (let's see how long its last). I have two tip-ups and plan to buy more once I try it and like it. I bought a 30 inch MH UglyStik Gx2. What are 3-5 lures I absolutely need for using the UglyStik? Not looking to break the bank yet but obviously will buy a more expensive lure to catch fish. I'm mostly interested in catching bass and crappie but if a larger bluegill wants to bite on thats great. I'll be ice fishing in MA and NH only. Thanks guys!
  11. https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/pelican-mustang-100x-kayak-18pelumstng100xkypsk/18pelumstng100xkypsk? I am looking to get a cheap ($350 or less) dollar fishing kayak to leave at a friend's house who lives a couple hundred yards away from a lake in town. I need something that would be easy to carry and big enough for an average height guy. Does anyone have experience with the Pelican Mustang (link above)?
  12. lily pads, bass grass, rock piles, stumps, fallen trees. A lot of my fishing is casting from a boat towards the shore, often times less than two feet of water- typically use Texas rig for that but want to use wacky rig more
  13. I typically fish with two rods one for Texas rig the other for wacky. In the past I've always done 7 ft MH F for both but not sure what is best for my wacky set up. I do fish heavy cover, in MA and NH, every time and use green braid line. Whats the best spinning rod (length and action) and braid (lb. test and brand) for wacky rig in heavy cover?
