I collect old lures too. Something I've realized over the years is that only certain ones bring big dollars. Rare colors or models that weren't made in large quantities. Serious collectors want original boxes and paperwork that came with them too

I've always done best when its hot, with a dark spinnerbait. If weeds are not a huge problem, a black buzzbait or black jitterbug can be really good. I've had some blowups close to the bank or boat that were spooky!

Well Sam, it want a huge sale, but was still good. I got 2 packs ned rig heads, braid and mono line, some strike king 1/8 oz shaky head jigs and my wife got crappie jigs- I talked her into Bobby Garland jigs. Hope they work! They have some good buys on Fenwick spinning combos but I didn't bite. You know how it is with fishing stuff. There's always a few things you really need, and a lot of stuff you would Love to have. I need to wear out a few of mine first

I'm gonna have to try some. Always looking for something new Scaleface, 6inch jelly worms would probably be considered finesse these days. Haven't fished em in a while but a killer worm for sure

Rogers Sporting Goods in Liberty. Years ago, they gave away caps and other promotional stuff. Not sure about that but I'm going . Need a few things

Well the Berkley tent is at my fave sporting goods store this weekend so I'm heading down there. Getting new line, ned rig heads, worm weights, and maybe jig trailers. Ill be a kid in a toy store, and will have to check it all out. I'm sure many of you get fired up this time of year too! This time of year, I rest my mind on bass! Good luck to everyone this spring

BraytonM, the combo you mentioned would be good. The president reels are nice, and Berkeley makes tough, affordable rods. I have 2 berkley rods,and both have worked well. But, as always , shop around. Lots of sales this time of year

Well, I'm 60 yrs old, and have been bass fishing about 35 yrs. Have worked as a carpenter for 25 yrs and still do. I fish mostly smaller lakes and ponds here in north Missouri. I like finesse fishing, and topwater fishing the best. Glad to be a member here. Great wealth of information on this site

What are peoples favorites? I like zooms finesse worms.I probably get more consistent action fishing this way. Not always big fish of course but numbers. I rig em Texas style with a 1/8 oz bullet weight. This year I plan on putting them on a z- man ned rig head.What's everyone like?

I do think it adds a degree of control, along with your drag.I've done it for years, and have only lost 2 bass that I can remember, and that was my fault. I use it for finesse type stuff- ned rigs, hair jigs, zoom finesse worms etc.Its really not for everybody but Ill probably always do it out of habit.A confidence thing

Yes WRB, a jig and eel. I used to use a uncle josh twin tail trailer, with mostly black jigs. One of the best bass lures ever! I only switched to plastic for the convenience, but pork works great.Years ago I had an older guy tell me it was all he used. I may go back to pork trailers yet. FishDewd, not really better or worse but different. Bucktail has a subtle action that's a lot different than a rubber jig. More streamlined and slim looking. Over the years I think that's why they gained a rep as a cold water bait, but as WRB says they will work year around. Before the plastic worm was invented a bucktail jig with a pork trailer was the bait. One other thing, they are affordable. I urge you to give some a try. Hope you tie into a good one

Nice! I received a fly vise for x-mas. Plan on learning to tie too.In my area, In only able to fish for largemouth bass, but these slim profile hair jigs work good. Good luck

I'm fired up! Can't wait for the weather to warm a little to go fishing. I've been out once, and caught 2 small bass on bucktail jigs. I go with a 1/8 ounce hair jig and add a trailer- short section of plastic worm or small frog. Maybe its habit, but I fish these jigs early in the year every year. Its slow going, but works well.This year I plan on taking them on into summer along with some other finesse stuff. Im sure many of you guys are ready too!

I used to overthink all the variables. Since I've fished the same lakes for years I've got a pretty good idea what should work. Now after all these years Im just glad to be out there!

HookRz, I have to agree. Pretty much what I do too. I set my drag tight and adjust after I hook a fish. Only time I've had trouble is one or twice hooking into a good size fish. I've had a couple break off on the hookset

I have to agree with mattkenzer on his tackle choice and and baits. Learn to get good with plastic worms. Pick up a couple bags of Zoom finesse worms, and learn that technique. Many days it can make up 70% of your fishing.

I enjoy it, but agree too. Most good spinning reels have much better drags than years ago. It works well for me, but you have to be careful on the hookset.

I like the super fluke in a shad color. I've had good luck fishing them weightless with a spinning rod. 10 or 12 pound line. I make a cast, let it sink a little and give it a good pop with the rod in between reeling. Like many baits of this type, it can be best on an overcast day with a little chop on the water. Good luck
