  1. I received a fishing shirt for x Ms this year. I've been wearing that and it is full UV protection. A cap, sunscreen- sunglasses help a lot. Reapply sunscreen on longer trips. I've worked outside probably 50% of my life. I was laughed at wearing sunscreen 20 years ago on construction sites. Many guys never worried about this back then, and thought a dark tan looked cool. Now I'm 60 and don't have any problems that In aware of. It is a serious thing! Sounds like your on top of it. Good luck, and stay protected out there
  2. Roboworm 4 1/2 inch. Colors mm11 or folk special. Texas rig with 1/8 oz brass bullet sinker and 8mm glass bead or split shot rigged. Gamma straight shank 1/0 hook. 3. I agree with Bluebasser86.I like mono for finesse fishing. I agree the sensitivity thing with flouro is overblown, and I've tried flouro.Sunline mono is good, as is maxima. I use 6 and 8lb test.No problem feeling bites on smaller plastic worms, ned rig, or small hair jigs.Mono is more affordable too. Spool it correctly and your good to go.
  4. There are so many shaky heads out there now. Any good tackle shop will stock several brands. As ww2farmer says, vmc are good. Owner screwlock heads work well also. Recently picked up some by big bite baits, but haven't tried them yet . They look good too. With any that you try, only get top quality hooks. I like 1/8 for shallow water- 3/8 deeper. Good luck
  5. I think some of the Japanese made Shimano reels are some of their best. Made in the 90s
  6. In with weedwacker and WRB. I like mono for finesse, sunline or maxima. 6 or 8lb test.
  7. What are your favorite straight shank lighter wire worm hooks. Currently using gamagatsu 1/0 .Using up my supply of these and looking for alternatives. I've done good with gamas, but wondering if you prefer another brand/type. Setup is 6/6 med Fenwick hmg spinning rod, 1/8 brass bullet weight, 8mm glass bead to hook.Line is maxima 6 or 8lb mono.Fishing clear water depths of 5 to 30 ft. Roboworms and zoom trick/ finesse worms. Thanks in advance
  8. As Catt said, this takes practice. What's helped me is to keep my rod tip up- 10oclock position after the cast, and during the retrieve. This way, you can see the line where it enters the water better. The tension- slack that Catt mentions is 100% true. Experience and practice the best teacher. Good luck
  9. Good rods. Made in Oklahoma I think. Mine is an original series spinning rod, I've had for years.
  10. Interesting Sam. I haven't had to have any of my Shimano reels serviced for a while. If people are aware of this it could hurt Shimano sales. I've always liked them, casting and spinning, but it might be time to go with Lews or Diawa in the future.
  11. I agree with Cat and Bluebasser86. Go for it, at any time you can, and good luck
  12. I prefer 1 pc rods, but modern 2 PC rods are so much better than they were years ago they work fine. With good 2 PC rods, hard to tell a difference
  13. Back off drag settings, give rods and reels a quick wipe down if need be. I always store them out of sunlight.

    Reapers

Like Tom said, reapers are still a good bait. Shad imitators, and also imitate small bluegills and panfish too.Clear water- splitshot rig
  15. Well said Sam.
  16. Ill be 61 in October. I still work as a carpenter, some days hard work too.I've slowed down a little, but still fish whenever I can. I think the physical work helps keep me going.
  17. All of the above are true. I fish with a friend who will not change his line! He uses spinning reels only, and his line is ancient, dry, and comes off his reel in big coils. I've told him too many times now. This season its on him. When he hooks a good bass and his line breaks I'm not saying anything. Well, Might call him a cheapskate
  18. Welcome Richard. Many great fisherman on this site. Good luck with your fishing
  19. Catt, my grandson is named Aiden too! I started him with beetlespins and inline spinners.I agree, it depends on the kid. Now, he is 10 and fishing soft plastics some, which we all know is a learning process. Hell get there. Hes fired up about it now.
  20. Wurming67 , I fish 2 older quarry lakes that have very clear water. I've got one spinning setup a lot like yours. Its good for any finesse plastics, smaller cranks and topwaters.Mine has caught me a lot of bass. I started using spinning tackle in these clear lakes, because I needed to downsize a little . With bigger topwaters, buzzbaits , etc I use a med heavy casting rod. I'm sure it will work for you. Good luck.
  21. In using brass weights. In painted them black. I've read that brass is best, better than lead, don't really know about tungsten
  22. I recently opted to add a 8mm facceted bead to my Texas rig again, after a few years of not using one. In throwing roboworm 41/2 worms 1/0 straight shank hook, along with zoom trick worms. The lakes I fish are clear, old quarry lakes. This morning caught 4 decent bass on this rig. Now, In going to keep a rod rigged this way. In fishing it with a light shake when the worm hits bottom, followed by slow lift and drag retrieve. This is a great way to fish. Now I'm doing it again after getting away from it for a while.Anyone else still using beads on a Texas rig, or has this gone out of style now? If so , do you peg the weight or bead, or let them slide freely on the line. Working good for me
  23. I like 10" plastic worms rigged Texas style, dark single blade spinnerbait, jig with craw or (preferably) pork trailer, and muskie jitterbug. I've done best on hot, humid, buggy nights, on the dark of the moon.If its really sticky and muggy, those are the times I've done best, during the hottest part of summer. I always try to keep retrieves slow and consistent. Its amazing how well your senses sharpen at night, and become much more keen. Over the years I've done well on better sized bass- 4pound + at night. My lakes are clear, and sometimes I think the bigger fish become nocturnal in feeding habits. I love it.
  24. I used to use them often, but have gotten away from them the past 3 yrs. Texas rig and like many say above, a pegged slip sinker. Also, you might search older articles by Guido Hibdon. He was very good at tube fishing. They will catch all species of bass.If your waters are super weedy, drop them on outside edges of moss lines etc.
