  1. I don't like them. A few years ago I saw a huge one swimming close to the bank early in the morning. It looked to be three feet long.
  2. I don't really have a size preference, but lean to the smaller of these two in clear water. It's a killer plastic worm.
  3. I'm a fan of size 2000 or 2500, both can work. I have used a 1000 size Diawa also.
  4. I saw this recently also at a small state park lake not far from me. People told me it was fished out, and couldn't catch anything there. My family was up there for a picnic, when here comes a guy holding a chunky four pound bass. He was bank fishing with a t rig plastic worm, and told me he caught some good fish there. He showed me photos on his phone to back it up. You just never know? It pays to make a few cast in these places.
  5. I fished a few tournaments years ago. I got matched with an older much more experienced angler one time. With 30 minutes left, he stopped at a bank that everyone else passed by and caught three keeper fish to come in third place. I think it was his intuition, that told him to stop there. I would have passed this spot by like everyone else.
  6. Trial and error. Start with some easy recipes your family will like. Most of the secret to cooking is heat control.
  7. Type in Senko in the search bar. There's an encyclopedia on the subject. Rods, lines baits, everything.
  8. My brain clicks into gear shortly after I get up at 5 or 5:30. But, so many years of carpenter work make the body click in a little slower
  9. Big Game is my line for casting reels also. Lighter lines are Trilene XL or Stren. Whichever is available.
  10. I use Mepps, but there are other good brands too. I like the Comet Minnow, and the Black Fury, yellow dot pattern, size 3 or 4. Classics, and fun to throw.
  11. I'm pretty sure this frog was made by Johnson. I remember this being advertised on the Virgil Ward Championship Fishing show. They came in brown, black and frog green color. It was meant to use as a spinnerbait, spoon or jig trailer. I haven't seen these in many years.
  12. Thanks Catt. When I made this thread, I meant stick to fishing period. Of course be willing to change if you need to, but don't give up and keep working at it.
  13. Catt, I have no doubt that'd where I got it. My dad was really old school.
  14. Mike, my grandpa raised hunting dogs, and would add a raw egg to they're food on occasion. He said it helped they're fur look shiny also. I remember those dogs loving it.
  15. I have read this also. I will say we've cut back on the number of treats we give our dogs. Too many is not good for them. They're like kids with a bag of candy. They'll eat the entire package if they can.
  16. If you look up the word tenacity in the dictionary, it's defined as a person who won't give up, or has a determined non quitter attitude. I've seen recent threads by guys who are struggling, getting skunked, and having a hard time catching fish. Here's the thing. We all do this. Don't feel bad about it. You can have the best tackle, electronics, and all the high end gear, but, you can still have days when it's hard to catch fish.It happens to all of us. If you can develop a persistent, non quitter attitude with your fishing, your day will come. IMO, tenacity is one of the main traits of the best fisherman.
  17. We have three dogs at our house. Two terriers, and one dachshund. They love theyre treats, and they're treats are what motivates part of they're behavior. They like Milk Bones, and especially like the darker " gravy" brand Milk Bones. Generic brand bones they'll ignore much of the time. They're very favorites are soft chewy treats. Wavy Bacon, Pupperoni, and Milk Bone dental chews, which I break in half for them. I try and dole out treats as a reward for them. And, dogs are smart. They learn quickly exactly how to act to get another treat. Because our dogs are not large, I can often break the treats in half for them. They don't seem to mind at all. What treats do you give your dogs? Are there any brands or types that they like especially well?
  18. I don't search out bedding bass. I have seen some on beds but usually can't get them to hit. They can blend in perfectly.
  19. Faster gear ratio reels help when you get a strike, and need to quickly take in slack line before a hook set.
  20. The early baitcasting reels were much harder to use overall. My dad had two Phlueger Trusty casting reels. No free spool, brakes, nothing like modern reels. A lot of guys liked spinning reels when they came out. Some well known anglers who preferred them were Bill Dance and Billy Westmoreland. I think the ABU Cardinal 4 was one of the all time best spin reels. Heavy by today's standards, but dependable and smooth.
  21. A-Jay thank you sir. It's an excellent thread, and can help everyone.
  22. A-Jay, I always follow your thread on keeping lean. I've currently lost 15lbs, and am working on another 5 pounds to lose. I basically cut way back on sugar, and have been keeping with a evening exercise program of bike riding( indoor bike) and sit ups. It's a good thing for me, and I feel better as a result.
  23. My first baitcast reel. ABU 5000. I was 13 years old. On the first day using the reel, I created a birds nest big enough for a condor to nest in.
  24. I shop for good deals, sales, etc.Im not brand loyal to any particular baits. I still use Creme Scoundrel worms, and they have a faint chemical smell. I just give them a shot of Baitmate and cast away.
  25. Yes, I like the crawfish pattern also. I have a couple of old Beetlespins. The head shape was slightly different than what we get now. It was not perfectly round. Now they all come with a standard round head.
