  1. I'd been fishing a plastic worm in bright sun, and had caught two keeper size bass from a large cove, in about thirty minutes time. Some clouds came over, and the surface remained calm. I reached for my casting rod, and tied on my Zara Spook. I cast, and began walking my spook across the cove. The first cast brought nothing, but on my next cast, when I lifted my bait from the water, there was a 4" bass hooked on one of the back trebles. I never knew he was there. He'd gone for a wild ride, getting jerked back and forth across the cove. I carefully released him, and he bolted off, acting like nothing had happened. I've also hooked a couple of less than 6" bass fishing large 10" plastic worms. Sometimes, I'm amazed by these dinks. They'll try to eat something that's bigger than they are. I hope they grow up, and become big bass, and have the same voracious appetites. I'm sure others have had similar things happen. The dinks are out there. Tell me about the smallest dink you've ever caught on a big bass lure.
  2. Agree. We always heard that bass bite good the last hour before dark. Not always true. By that time, the lake has been baking in the hot sun all day. It's still hot.
  3. By this time of the summer, the heat and humidity have me feeling burned out. Now, I fish very early ( sunup) in the morning for around two hours, the last hour before darkness, and plan on night fishing this month. So, I'm ready for fall. Fall, like springtime, can be hit or miss. But, if you can be on the lake at the right time, it can be an excellent time to fish. Plus, the changing colors of the trees around the lakes make it even better. I say bring it on. Is anyone else ready for fall?
  4. Hello Scott, welcome from Missouri.
  5. Yes. It handles better also
  6. When you mention ribbon tail, I still say Culprit. But the only thing missing is the heavy salt. I've used a lot of Culprit worms years ago. The ribbon tail is roughly the body length as I recall.
  7. Sounds like a 4" Culprit? Again I don't remember them being heavily salted.
  8. Try junebug. But, the key is slow retrieve. This works for me, but that's almost all I use anymore so there's that. The other guys probably have some other ideas. Good luck
  9. I like Texas rig. Fish it slowly
  10. Slow along the bottom with a Zoom Finesse worm.
  11. I'm getting ready to go out for a couple of hrs now. I'm using Yo Zuri Hybrid on one rod. I haven't had any bad knots or other problems. Maybe a bad spool,?
  12. I don't usually add a trailer. When I do, I use the Zoom twin tail trailer.
  13. My home lake has been taken over by a green slime on the surface . Bummer!! I have another lake I can fish, and I'll fish there. I haven't given up on catching my new PB. Still going for it, as well as catching other bass. I'll change my tactics a little for the new lake, and keep after it.
  14. Good bait. Old school rules.
  15. If I have to choose a confidence lure, I'll pick the plastic worm. Versatile, and catches bass. I use several different worms and a few colors.
  16. What would you say is your #1 plastic worm rigging method? And, why would you say it works best on the lakes you fish?
  17. I still throw red occasionally. Zoom is the one I used the most.
  18. If money wasn't a factor, I'd buy that rod, then buy my own personal lake to fish in.
  19. I've learned that anxiety disorder is pretty common, especially in younger men. In my nephews case, he couldn't keep a job for much more than two weeks. His doctor told us that many things which most of us would consider easy, were a huge struggle for him. Just getting up and getting ready for work, caused him much anxiety. The correct meds, and, a lot of positive encouragement from his family helped this. Now, he excels at things that were almost impossible for him to do before. I think he'll continue to do well from here. Even the doctors can't explain exactly why this happens to people., but it can really shut people down.
  20. A-Jay, still working to stay lean myself sir. Things are going well, and, I've added a pull up bar to my workout plan. Every little bit seems to help, and dropping the weight is the best thing I've done in years.
  21. I posted about my nephew Kyle. He suffered with anxiety for quite a while. Once he was diagnosed, and given the right meds, he was able to improve his life tremendously.
  22. A-Jay, glad to hear this for sure.Hoping for the best for you guys, and continuing to send positive thoughts your way. Best luck moving forward to both of you.
  23. I have heard crappie fisherman talk about " shooting" docks. I haven't heard this term used in bass fishing.
  24. Yes I still have one. Mine is crawdad color. Arbogast made a good lure similar to yours called a Mud Bug. I haven't thrown either in years due to weeds...
  25. Since I'm a plastic worm fisherman, my favourite part is the tap- tap when I get a strike. But, I really love everything about bass fishing. I've been obsessed for years...
