  1. St Larwrence. Numbers and size, all day, almost any time of year. You may not see a 6 like at Erie or Mille, but you'll see more 3 and 4 pound fish than you'll know what to do with.
  2. When I go to the St Lawrence I rig up two dropshot rods, one with a long leader and a perch-imitation bait, one with a short leader and a goby bait. On some spots they munch the perch better, others the goby. I think that at least up there the diet largely consists of both perch and gobies. Weirdly enough though I too have had less success with perch colored hard baits than whites and other colors. I don't know why that is other than maybe the fact that they're just so aggressive that they don't pay much attention to such baits, other than when it's real cold. Who knows!
  3. I'm looking for some kind of spray adhesive to use on my boat's carpet. It's peeling up in a few spots, and I've heard that an aerosol spray adhesive is the quickest and most effective way of fixing this. I'm having problems finding waterPROOF adhesive, not water resistant. Any suggestions? As of right now I'm leaning towards trying Loc Tite High Performance, but don't know if it'll get it done. I appreciate any help
  4. Hey guys, looking to start a thread on the smaller lakes of central NJ. I'd consider central jersey as being everything in between Carenegie and Mirror lakes, and including those two. Where are your favorite little lakes? Excluding places like Manasquan and the Delaware, I'm interested in hearing what my fellow New Jersey anglers have to say about the small lakes that we have to fish. To be specific, I'm wondering about places that are big enough to launch and fish my 17' boat comfortably. I'm asking because I'm getting tired of the places I've been fishing, and would like to see some new water, if anyone wants to bring up a bank fishing place go for it, as I feel like these NJ lakes don't get mentioned enough. Not looking to spot burn, just want to hear about some places that I may have overlooked or failed to give a second try after a bad first experience (I've had such experiences with Farrington, Deal, Mirror, and a few others). Thanks for the replies dudes.
  5. I second this post. Been dreaming of going since I was 10 and cannot wait to fly down there this weekend. What can I expect? What else is there to do other than the expo and weigh in, or will that keep me occupied for two days? Really looking forward to it and appreciate anyones insight.
  6. Simply put, be versatile. Don't get caught up with one or two techniques, try and spend time fishing many different techniques and lures and you'll be able to tackle anything that's thrown at you.
  7. I know that this is old news as they have been out for a year or so now, but I have not heard much feedback on the berkley hardbaits. Good or bad. The other day walmart had a 3 pack with the squarebill, the bad shad, and the digger 8.5 for less than $10. I picked it up and I must say that out of the pack I'm impressed. I've yet to throw the baits, but the paint schemes are awesome, the hooks are very sharp, and they seem to be very well made. The digger crank seems like a heavier, plastic DT6, a bait which I love. I could see this bait being better equipped for power fishing as opposed to a lot of the finesse cranking I do with a DT6. Does anyone have experience with these baits and any of the others? I took a look on TW and the jerkbaits look very nice, as well as the lipless bait.
  8. I too was hesitant to get into the plopper game, and I regretted that I waited as long as I did. On pressured waters the 90 is an absolute game changer, if you fish somewhere where getting 5 is a challenge throw the 90 in the morning and you'll have awesome results. The bigger sizes have been best for me when throwing them over flats and calling fish out of cover, while the 90 seems to be the bait that they simply can't resist. Get one in a natural color for clear waters and black for cloudy water.
  9. Spro Little Johns for cold or pressured water, and KVD 1.5s for warmer water covers my needs. That little Spro crank really catches em, and they come with some of the best stock hooks I've seen.
  10. Never tried the mojo rig, and have very very limited experience with flukes, float n fly, and giant swimbaits... For those who have said drop shot on this thread I have one word, WOW.
  11. Thanks for all the replies. I think I'll end up going with the 6:4:1 reel after all.
  12. Looking to see what everyone has to say about gear for lipless crankbait fishing. I've been fishing them for years and have used various rods, reels, and lines. This year I'm most likely going with a 7'2" MH Composite Crankin rod, as I had a lot of success with it last year. The difference lies in the reel. I've used 7:0:1 reels in the past, and am going to see how it works on a slower 6:4:1 reel. Does anyone have any experience throwing lipless baits on that mid-speed reel? I'll be using mostly 12lb flouro, with the exception being heavy grass. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
  13. I'm trying to plan a trip to do some pre-spawn bass fishing in the poconos in the spring, can anyone tell me when ice-out up there typically is? Trying to shoot for the weekend of the 14th of April, hoping the water will be in the mid-high 40s. Thanks for any help
