  1. I would stick with the med mod. I find I hang up a lot less with a med mod rod.
  2. Blind casting to beds.
  3. The square bill kit saves you about 17$
  4. I have nav on my lorance and my hummingbird.
  5. Bass pro also has frog kits soft plastics kits and lots of other stuff.
  6. Other than a jerk bait rod, all my other rods are 7' and over. I love longer rods and I find that I'm most accurate with a 7'6" rod.
  7. Anybody ever fished lake conroe? It's my home lake, I've been fishing it since the early 90s. I keep hearing from people about how bad of a lake it is. Even Jordan Lee said he hated the lake after he won the classic here last year. The big bass tour is here this weekend. It's a weigh in every hour tournament. You just don't see fish like this on any other lake. I have caught countless 5,6,7 and my PB is 11.08. After seeing the first day standings like this, could you honestly say that this is a bad lake??
  8. When I bought my first boat at 29 years old.
  9. My son started at 2, he's big for his age. He is now 4 and all he wants to do is fish and shoot his bow. My step son is 8 and is using my baitcasters and figuring things out on his own. When we get out on the water now I always ask him what we should start out with. No matter what he says, that's what we do.
  10. I have been impressed with the okuma spinning reels. To me it's all about the drag on a spinning reel and this one is smooth as butter. It's my top pic for a spinning reel under 100$ http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Okuma_Trio_High_Speed_Spinning_Reel/descpage-OKHR.html The high gear ratio is also a big plus.
  11. Only advantage I see is it looks slightly different than anything else in the water. I kinda reminds me of the keitech jig.
  12. I have never fished Florida but all we have here (lake Conroe) is Florida bass. Maybe that's the same??? If so look for clear water or stained water. Muddy water makes them hard to catch. Also forget everything you know about any other kind of bass. When you see that perfect spot that just has to have a big girl in it, it doesn't. Can't fish with your eyes around here.
  13. I will take 5-6 unless I have them dialed in from the day before. Then I take 4-5 out. I lay two on each side of me. (With a strap over them) and I'll have one in my rod holder and one in my hand.
  14. Caught 11 today in some muddy water. The lake is usually very clear but it has been raining for a week. This girl was the biggest one of the day. The water was way up from a week ago and they were stacked in the stick ups. Caught some of them on a brush hog (south African special) and most on a jig green pumpkin with a orange craw on it.
  15. Anybody who thinks that weedless hooks don't play a part in some fish lost is crazy. I'm not saying that it's a big number. if you use weedless rigs (and I do) you WILL miss hooksets because of it. To think that your way is better because it's the original way of rigging is a good way to miss out on big advances in our industry. The Indians protected theirselfs and hunted with bows and arrows until guns came along. My dad fished a c-rig on a 6'6" Carolina honey rod till he used my 7'6" grass rakes. New and better ways of doing things are found on a daily basis.
  16. That is correct. If you go fishing with a small size 1-2 weedless dropshot hook you will have problems. I don't know anybody that would argue the fact that your hook up ratio would be closer to 100 percent if you could use an open hook all the time. If you use the one ring and a hook, you will lose fish because of it. Probably not many fish but it will happen.
  17. I fish slow in muddy water, bait color doesn't matter as much as where you put it. Around me the fish hold tight to the cover in muddy water. Find some trash and pick it apart. That's what I did this morning with a brush hog.
  18. It's a goober fish!! That's what we call them or gasper goo. They will destroy a dropshot.
  19. Big c-rigs big football jigs.
  20. I own plastic reels. And I use them every day but when I go out to catch gar on the Trinity river, the plastic stays at home. A 4 foot gar will smoke a reel pretty fast. Think of what a 7 footer will do to it.

    Red?

I can answer your question with a picture.
  22. Try a bladed jig on a c-rig. It looks crazy but it works.
  23. A lath bag could hold 4 or 5 rods. They are about 30$ on Amazon.
  24. In cold water it does happen. If I'm fishing 40' of water and a fish is suspended at 8' and I have a 3/8 oz dropshot weight, the fish would have to move quickly to keep up with the bait. In Texas our fish move slow in the winter. Watch underwater vids of bass. They don't move as fast as you would think.
  25. The albright gets my vote also. Trying to learn the FG was the most frustrating afternoon I have ever had.
