As for the dead bass comments, these are all incorrect. Herbicides were put in a canal, canals are flowing water, so the water quality (dissolved oxygen, pH) would not have been a problem. Herbicides are strictly regulated by the EPA and only the correct one for the intended application can be used. Herbicides are not just "dumped" in the water. Many measurements are taken to insure the correct amount is being used so that negative impacts (fish kills) to the enviroment are not caused. Aquatic plant control in canals has to be done when plants reach nuisance levels. The canals were made for water movement just as reservoirs were made for water control (retention, navigation), fishing is just a benefit from both.

I heard those Daiwa Steez rod and reels are pretty nice. If you go with the 6'7" MH rod and the 103HA reel it would also cover a range of baits. That is if you have around $900 sitting around.

Man, they come with great hooks. I sure don't think they need changed out. 8-) The hooks that come on them are too thin and the tips of the hooks bend down too easy. I had several fish come unpinned and since changing to the owners I've yet to have one come off.

Yep the expensive ones are MUCH BETTER than the cheapos!! You know you've got a good pair of polarized glasses if you can't read your electronics in the boat (fish finder), the gas pump display, and the display in the wife's car . You've gotta tilt your head every which way to read these.

Before we have any CATCH & RELEASE comments, this lake just opened and is being managed INTENSIVELY by the US Forest Service. Harvest of fish (10 bass) below and above the slot is wanted so this lake doesn't become bass crowded. It's already very productive as you can see by Bassguy's post. Three years after stocking and already catching fish 6+ lbs, and there probably some much bigger than this yet to be caught. I'm definitely making a trip there now .
