  1. The Whopper Plopper is one of my go-to lures and I have had a lot of success with it. That being said, last week I went to a lake up in the mountains where the bass bite was on fire. I was catching them on everything I threw - EXCEPT the Whooper Plopper. Not even a strike at it. Definitely a good learning experience.
  2. Okay, cool.... I live in northern California and will be fishing 80% of the time on Oroville Lake or Bullards Bar (deep reservoirs). The other 20% of the time I will be going to Clear Lake, the Delta, and Lake Berryessa. I can remember how blown away I was when I went from a cheap UglyStik to my MojoBass reel, so I'm really looking forward to this upgrade!
  3. Thanks so much for the valuable information! It will be fun picking them out. I didn't even know where to begin looking at the Dobyns website.
  4. Hi, I recently purchased a new boat and recieved five coupons for Dobyns rods at 50% off. The coupons are good for both of the classifications of Champion series higher end rods - and this is what I intend to purchase. I have always been a bank fisherman and have never spent very much money on rods and reels in the past, but obviously this is going to change. Currently the only "nice" rod that I have is a Mojo Bass spinning reel. If you were going to pick out five Champion series rods as a "starter set" what would you go with? I would like to fish all techniques so would like to cover as many bases as possible with the five rods. Also, are all the rods in the champion series for baitcasters? Or do they have spinning rods too? Thanks!
  5. From a regional perspective, youtube has been a breath of fresh air. I cannot express how frustrating it was growing up around some of the top bass waters in the country (northern California) and hardly ever seeing western lakes fished on the national tv shows. We had/have one show that showcases western waters (Angler West TV) and when I was younger I can remember waiting all week with baited breath for new episodes. Youtube makes it so easy to finally watch lakes in our region fished (and seeing what works out here). I would say 80% of the time on youtube I'll watch videos filmed on northern California waters. And the rest of the time I'll watch general instructional videos of the bassresource variety....I cannot stand a lot of the "hype"/"clickbait" type fishing videos. I think youtube is still in it's infancy and these unfulfilling videos will not stand the test of time as the general public gradually smartens-up - at least I hope that's the case.
