  1. Largie, smallie, bucket mouth, green bass, brown bass. Whoops that belongs in the other thread
  2. NDYakAngler destroys river smallies on this jig in Minnesota. 20"+ regularly. I fish them in ponds sometimes and they do really well. I use Baby Rage Craws and TRD CrawZ as trailers. 3/16oz is my normal size.
  3. It's not unusual for me to burn through 6+ squarebills on the river dams in one day but the reward is worth it.
  4. Unbelievably tragic. I won't even let my son fish river dams with me on foot because all it takes is one slip.
  5. The $9.99 Disney Frozen 2 spincast combo at Walmart is an amazing 3/4oz jig rod.
  6. Sorry! It's always made me cringe. Can't help it. The good news is my opinion doesn't matter.
  7. I did not know it was pronounced Hook Sort of different, but I can't stand when someone calls a fishing rod a fishing pole. Something about that makes me imagine the person is in grade school.
  8. I was going to say, I live relatively close to the Kankakee river and fish it from time to time and it's nowhere near that fast unless there it's flooded, then it roars like all flooded waters with a flow.
  9. Maybe social media and YouTube and the circle I keep has warped my view of reality, but bass fishing seems as popular as ever. I can't imagine what else would "sell more" in a sporting goods store that they don't already carry.
  10. Because there's only one knot and not everything works well with straight braid.
  11. 10-12lb YZH
  12. If I fish them in rivers, they snag within minutes, but until then they catch some dinks and other species for me. In ponds I might as well be fishing a Lego on 200lb mono because the green bass don't touch them.
  13. I almost never throw a squarebill in a pond. Ponds are generally shallow and full of weeds and grass, at least around here. They get all mucked up right away. A lipless allows you to control depth better with your rod tip and reel speed, and is good in the grass.
  14. If the weather and ice or lack thereof allows, I start to fish in March. I mean I don't usually catch anything and I just freeze because I like to torture myself for no reward. Then in April I really kick it into high gear. It's still sketchy though. I'm either smoking them or they're laughing at me for trying. May is when it gets really fun and the bites are plentiful. This will last until September. In October the "fall feed" begins but around here it seems like that's a myth unless I'm targeting smallmouth in rivers but even then it slows down a lot. November-February is completely dead and quickly frozen over. Basically May-September is my season. The rest is a grind or impossible to fish without drilling through ice and that's not for me. Was supposed to move to Tennessee which would have changed everything but life circumstances messed that up.
  15. Unfortunately not. I fish from the bank and yak. I hope you get your answer.
  16. Only a bass fisherman's autocorrect changes "needs" to "neds."
  17. Medium for everything you described. Funny enough I had something similar happen to me 2 summers ago. I was fishing a shallow river with my buddy and my Whopper Plopper caught my Ned Rig rod on a cast and cracked it.
  18. I caught this big girl a year and a half ago on a green pumpkin and orange Ned Rig in about a foot of water. This river is a glorified creek in Central Illinois. It seems like nobody but myself and people I trust to tell know that big bass live here if you know how to find them and catch them.
  19. I don't know. I haven't used them since I first started fishing a decade ago, but I can't recall ever having a problem with them other than pitching with them made me miserable but that could be because I was newer to it. But here's this:
  20. A little above your price range but Dobyns has this: http://dobynsrods.com/rod/sa-705sf/
  21. That's not what I said, but we are on different wave lengths. "Great victory today, Jeff! How'd you do it?" "You see, we eliminated half the crowd right away with terrible boat positioning. I made especially sure that the guy in my boat had no opportunities. He's probably better, so I had to screw 'im." Not into it. If you are, cool.
  22. So much for respect and courtesy amongst gentlemen who share the same passion. I guess my morality and integrity is a lot different. Personally I want to be a better fisherman and a good host. I don't want to position a guy out of fishing effectively and make him have a miserable time.
  23. Strange thing about the Fury and many Dobyns rods. Some people swear their F action is MF and some people swear it's XF. I'm in the MF camp.
  24. Interestingly at 3/16oz my Fuegos are sketchy but cheap reels like the Silver Max sling them.
