  1. Dobyns Fury 4 power. It's listed as a H but it's more like a powerful MH. You don't have to only look for a strong MH; you can look for a weak H. A Daiwa Aird-X H is more like a powerful MH and it's $55.
  2. Because with a well trained thumb I can do anything a DC can with most other reels and more.
  3. I did indeed keep it straight. Thanks for the link to the tool.
  4. I usually do put my hand in my shirt and wrap the line and walk back. It wasn't working though and started to hurt my hand so I clamped down on the spool as hard as I could. Not really the point here though. My line somehow got completely embedded in the spool. No line end to put through the guides or tie something on and I couldn't pick it out. It was a glorious looking spool of line with no end lol
  5. Yesterday my girlfriend got hung up on what I assume is a log. No big deal. It was 10lb line and I broke it off with ease. Later, since I'm intelligent, I hit the exact same log with a chatterbait and got hung up. It's a little harder to swallow losing a chatterbait and a trailer than it is a trick worm. After several minutes of trying and failing to get it back, I put my thumb tightly on the spool and started walking backwards until it broke off (15lb Big Game). When it finally did break off I was looking for the end of the line but it was nowhere to be found. Somehow it was in the spool. I never could locate the tag end or pick it out. I had an entire spool of line with no way to tie anything to it. Eventually I just cut it out respooled right there on the bank.
  6. I live in the Plainfield and Mooresville area just west of Indy. The only public ponds I know of are Sodalis Nature Preserve and Hummel Park. Sodalis is trash and Hummel isn't much better. They're also highly pressured. I know of the White River but I need to know about ponds. I'm not interested in lakes yet. I don't have my Yak over here so I'm bank bound. I don't fish lakes from the bank. Thanks for any help.
  7. 7' MH/MF does a lot of things well. I disagree that a true F action rod is all purpose. Better yet is something in-between a MF and F.
  8. Just saying, a 1/10oz Ned Head with a Finesse TRD really comes in at about 1/4oz.
  9. The Ned Rig by far. Z-Man TRD in either Coppertreuse or Green Pumpkin/Orange.
  10. Purple is my favorite color so you could send me a TI ??
  11. On the SAME DAY less than a week ago I pointed out to my girlfriend a young guy reeling with a spinning reel upside down and a middle aged man fishing a buzzbait under water like a spinnerbait. She asked if I was going to say anything. No because only the kids are receptive these days. Everyone else acts like you're wrong.
  12. 75 and 110 are the best for me
  13. I've always used casting and spinning gear when "appropriate" but the Wacky, Ned, and weightless Trick Worm were what I used 75% of the time because they just work. I've learned you can also get numbers AND size with jigs. It's about placement and confidence.
  14. I primarily just fish with jigs. There's been a complete shift in how I've approached bass fishing. Before you would find my with spinning gear 75% of the time because I like finesse fishing. Now I'm 99% power fishing on casting gear with jigs. My numbers of fish caught hasn't changed much, but the size has increased a lot. Honestly with experience jigs don't feel too much different than Texas Rigs.
  15. Lure color for me is for me and not the fish. I'm confident in certain colors. It probably usually doesn't matter. Blacks, blues, purples, and browns and greens, white and chartreuse...not enough difference. I wouldn't fish a rainbow Senko or something with much confidence.
  16. The main setup I've been fishing this season is a 7' MH/F with a 6.4:1 reel spooled with 30lb Power Pro to a 15lb Big Game leader. Absolutely no problems.
  17. I'm naturally right handed and I fish what is technically considered left handed according to the industry. It makes no sense to me. My dominant hand works the baits and handles the fish and my weak hand reels. That sounds right handed to me, but whatever lol.
  18. NDYakAngler uses Quantum Smoke reels and I've never seen him have a problem or complain. He uses Legend Tournament rods, too, so he's not using mediocre equipment.
  19. H/F casting MH/F casting MH/MF casting M/MF casting M/F spinning ML/F spinning You will do well with essentially everything you encounter with these rods.
  20. 5 month update. I'm completely healthy and doing well. May it be God's will that I stay that way with COVID-19 creating havoc here at home and around the world. Sad news. My wife left me for someone who I used to claim as a friend exactly 8 days after I posted this. He took the opportunity to slither in like a snake and I guess everything else was too much for her to handle so she made her choice too. Needless to say the plans to move to Tennessee as a family are not going to happen. I have since moved out of Illinois and into Indiana (as of March). I've begun to see a woman who enjoys fishing as much as I do. I'm hoping to get back to the little ones back across the border here soon as things (perhaps foolishly) begin to open back up. Caught a couple jig fish the other day. Life is good, truthfully.
  21. KVD 1.5 in Chartreuse/Black and Sexy Shad. Give me a rock or sand bottom and *I won't use anything else* from May to September. April and October are wildcards; depending on the year and how spring and fall play out, they could be included. Only rock and sand bottoms, though. Mostly in rivers. *Exaggeration, but they're that good.
  22. It doesn't need to be broken in. Even KVD LL will do little for braid. It's limp by nature.
  23. I was finally able to really get out and fish with COVID-19 and the weather creating problems. Only caught 2, but it was nice. Both on a 5/16oz Dirty Jigs Finesse Jig with a Baby Rage Craw trailer. The better fish is pictured.
  24. I wouldn't even worry about replacing parts on an inexpensive reel honestly. Just get a new one because other things are bound to go wrong once one thing does.
