  1. My son and I like to walk 5 minutes down the road to fish a little pond. It's a great numbers pond. Occasional 3 and 4 pounders, but usually 1-2 pounds and less. Well, we walked down yesterday afternoon to see that the water had suddenly turned rancid, and we stopped counting at 43 dead bass, catfish, and bluegill, mostly because of the smell. It was all so sudden. We had just fished it a couple of days prior, and the fish appeared healthy and fine and the water, while weedy, was good looking. The town took action pretty quickly. A few hours later clean up crews were down there taking out the dead fish and weeds, and some kind of pump or filter was going. What could have happened?
  2. To be fair, where are the gonna park? Spaces often can't hold a truck with a boat unless it's at the pump.
  3. A new pet peeve was discovered today. Some young kids came up to the pond I was fishing this morning and were scooping dinks up with a net from the shoreline. Kudos on being able to scoop them up without spooking them. But I dont understand what the heck you are gonna do with dink bass?
  4. I'm actually a perfect specimen.
  5. I always flip my bail by hand. And the weird thing is - and you can't tell in the photo - is that it looks like a tag end.
  6. No idea, let me look into it. I have 2 accounts. One is several years old and the other is a year old. Use both and don't pay anything. It's right there, brother, as I said. It's free unless you want more uploading space and extra perks. As far as a standard account, it's free. Does ImageShack cost anything? A subscription is required to have full access to all the features ImageShack has to offer.
  7. I've been meaning to post this since I discovered it last weekend. I've never seen something like this before. Is it normal? So I noticed a knot was tied in my braided line (Power Pro). It appears to me that 2 batches (?) were connected. Would you trust this or cut it?
  8. That's completely false about ImageShack. I have used it for years and I don't pay for it. For more uploading space and extra perks, it costs. However, it's all I use and I have never run out of space.
  9. So much easier to just upload to ImageShack and copy and paste from there. Clear, large photos in seconds. Nobody listens when I recommend it though.
  10. I know guys who sneak up to the water like they're hunting wabbits, wash every bit of scent off of them that they can, and focus on super quiet entry.... Never noticed a difference in catch rate or quality. Opportunistic ambush predators with pea brains are gonna eat regardless. Don't get too caught up on that stuff. It ain't deer hunting.
  11. Yep. The biggest things are, you need to properly set up your braking system and the spoon tension knob thingamajig. Once those are set, it gets easier. Also stop the spool with your thumb right as the lure makes water contact. You'll get to the point where, with a properly setup baitcaster, you'll barely need to use your thumb. The only backlash I've had this year was when a frog decided to eat my Trick Worm. So I'm like, ok big guy, you wanna eat my bait so now you're the bait. Went to cast his butt out there for a bass to slurp up and joke was on me because I backlashed.
  12. Lol, what? You don't have a "substance abuse problem" simply because you have a cooler of beer while you're fishing. We call that normal and relaxing. Get a grip.
  13. Rarely. Days where I only catch 1 or 2 are more common, but those are few and far between as well. I usually fish ponds and will hop around until I find one where they're biting.
  14. It's a Largemouth.
  15. Gross lol.
  16. There aren't many times where you need anything but a worm, a spinnerbait/chatterbait/swimbait, and a topwater of whatever variety. It really is simple. Finding the fish, finding the big fish, and fishing to the conditions is the hard part, not the lure.
  17. Northern Illinois, and it's the way I pronounced it.
  18. We have a different definition and way of being courteous. If I'm at the start of a cove and/or fishing slowly, and the lake is small, I don't expect people to wait around on me. I'm courteous enough to share the water, rather than expecting someone to wait right there until I move off from the start, or to wait around as I fish slowly and thoroughly. So I guess you expect others to be courteous, but I'm more worried about me being the courteous one because I can only control myself and my own morality. My morality says, "share."
  19. "If you're at the start of a cove in a small lake where there are only 6 coves, where the hell do you expect other people to go, especially if there are already boats in the other coves?" It's not whatever. Other people want to fish the public lake too.
  20. No kidding. The point is, his lake is small. Sometimes you gotta make way. If you're at the start of a cove in a small lake where there are only 6 coves, where the hell do you expect other people to go, especially if there are already boats in the other coves? Make room.
  21. I do a lot of pond fishing from the banks. Many of them don't have very many good places to stand. If I see someone trying to find a place to fish in such small water, I offer up some room. In small water it's gonna be cramped sometimes and you don't get to take ownership of entire spots.
  22. Sounds like you're mad that they weren't fishing behind you. Someone's gotta do it. Akin to being upset over not getting the first a biggest piece of cake. Why do you automatically get it?
  23. I use a backpack stuffed with Plano boxes. Simple, comfortable, and convenient. The only good thing about a tackle box from the shore is that it can double as a seat.
  24. Bass fishing with the boy this morning and caught a giant Crappie. Wow.
