  1. The one that killed 200,000~ people in Haiti was a 7.0. American infrastructure and government building codes, as well as this being out in the desert, is saving the day.
  2. Done been tired of them. Back before they all teamed up and got really big I watched a few of them. They were just kids my age or a little younger going fishing. Somewhat educational, mostly just entertaining to watch them fish. Now they are obnoxious, insufferable tools who have let internet fame and wealth change them. Half their videos aren't even fishing anymore. Good anglers to watch are: NDYakAngler Alex Rudd BassResource (Glenn) KickinTheirBassTV (he's loud, full of energy and young, but he actually just fishes and teaches and has respect) DEBO Bamabass 1Rod1Reel distanced himself from the Googans and actually turned down the opportunity to be part of their group and business. He discussed it recently and said that they were just going different directions and he wished the best for them. Which is to say, he knew they were clowns.
  3. It's all personal. For me, High End: $350-400~ for the setup. Midrange: $250-$300~ for the setup. Budget: $150-$200~ for the setup. There's wiggle room between each category if more money is available for something slightly better. In that $100~ range there's nothing that can personally fit my needs outside of finding a M/MF Original Lightning Rod and a Silver Max reel to be just perfectly fine for 1.5 Squarebills and 1/4oz Lipless Crankbaits. Outside of that, the low end of my budget would be, say, a Daiwa Aird X paired with a Fuego or a Fenwick Eagle paired with a President. In that $100 and below range I'm shopping for kids or people who don't fish much. But that's all very personal. I said in another thread awhile ago that I could be happy fishing a Berkley Cherrywood Rod and a Pflueger Trion but I wouldn't buy it for myself.
  4. Some Fuegos are $75 on Amazon. With $50 off you basically get to steal it. Wouldn't Lews version of the Silver Max be the $80 Laser reel?
  5. I definitely prefer to fish alone, but there is a time and place for fishing alone or fishing with others.
  6. So what I've learned is someone took all the Illinois bass and replaced them with Florida bass this year.
  7. No Illinois fishery belongs on this list.
  8. I would never put myself in that position in Illinois. This state bends order backwards to fine citizens and steal property to sell for the state. There would be no understanding on the part of these officers as far as accepting that you have a license but forgot to have it on you.
  9. I've caught many Whopper Plopper fish that way. Would be pretty unfair to call that a foul hook.
  10. Yeah for me. Just like Whopper Ploppers have replaced buzzbaits for me.
  11. I consider the Georgia bass an illegitimate record. Very little information on the fish, almost 100 years old, no idea on the legitimacy of the scale/weight according to modern standards. Nice fish and all but I can't get behind it in these conversations. What I think doesn't matter though.
  12. His record would eat my record in one bite.
  13. I only have a few LMBs over 3lbs this year so far and the best SMB was 18in. It's been a terrible year. Cold and rain has messed everything up. Last year I was on the river catching quality SMBs starting May 4th all the way through October-ish. This year I just want the river to stop going from 4~ ft to 8~ ft every week, which is maintaining a chocolate milk color rather than the clear to green tea that it should be. I play pool in the winter months but right now I'm playing a lot of pool and doing little fishing. Until things clear up I'm not wasting my time. I figure by this weekend or next things might even out.
  14. He could use his right hand?
  15. Reminds me of people who insist they can throw a football 50+ yards until they're actually on a measured football field and it turns out they're only throwing 30 yards.
  16. I don't know why it would even matter if there had been articles here about him. It was only 5 years ago when his behavior first went public but even that wasn't anything like what came out like a week ago. Locally we now know he was known as a fool, a liar, and a cheat, but it's not like the world knew that.
  17. Silly bass, land is for fisherman.
  18. A spinnerbait shines when it is windy. Lipless crankbaits are also gold especially because they cut through the wind for easy casting. At 15mph+ I'm likely to call it quits or not go at all if I'm going to be on the open water. The pain in the arse the wind causes it's worth it to me. It takes a good time and makes it irritating. Some guys say that in their location they deal with 20mph every day or they don't fish at all. We don't have that here so I get to pick and choose.
  19. The mushroom head does better at avoiding snags, especially in the rocks, and it allows the TRD to stand up when touching bottom. Using a round head is like using a cut up stick bait for the plastic; it will work, but it won't be nearly as good. I personally only use the 1/10oz heads at the moment because that's the lightest Z-Man mushroom head with a weedguard. I fish them in rivers for smallmouth and these rivers have a rock and sand bottom. If I don't have the guards they snag almost every cast, with the guards I hardly snag at all. The ponds I fish are too weedy for the Ned Rig and I don't visit the lakes frequently enough. Hopefully Z-Man will make the weedless version in 1/15oz.
  20. Mike Long isn't alone in his thinking. I have an acquaintance who is a casual fisherman I run into once in awhile at a certain pond. He was telling me about bluegills and crappie he keeps and that he feeds well and that they're getting massive. Then he said he could grow a record, bring it to the pond, put a hook in it's mouth, throw it out, and pretend he caught it. This was in late spring before this all exploded. Nothing like that would ever cross my mind.
  21. I agree with a Daiwa Tatula. Daiwa reels are very forgiving.
  22. I don't expect this to impact anyone outside of SoCal and it probably won't even impact them in any practical sense.
  23. The 6'8" Okuma EVX MH/MF is a great rod for squarebills and lipless crankbaits. It's technically their spinnerbait rod but it works great for these as well. The regular 7' Okuma EVX M/MF or MH/MF cranking rods would fit the bill too. $100~ for EVX rods Fenwick HMG 7'2" M/MF at $100~ is an option as well. I love those rods. However, I haven't used this one specifically. I have ML/F and M/F spinning HMGs and M/F and MH/F casting HMGs. Only reason I haven't gotten this rod is because I prefer 6'6"-6'10" rods and will go to 7' if I have to but never higher.
  24. I had to correct a friend who used to do this a few years ago. There's a group of 3 ponds 30 minutes from me that I go to once or twice a year. Last year I saw a teenager holding his spinning rod like this and somehow, and i don't know how, trying to cast it like he was fly fishing. I've gone back once this year so far and saw that same teenager doing the same thing. I didn't say a word because, I just, like, I don't know... Was flabbergasted?
