  1. Crossfire Trail is a pretty good one with Tom Selleck, Wilford Brimley, and Mark Harmon
  2. I’m not sure why but I always forget about Shawnee state lake. I’ll have to give it a shot sometime soon too
  3. I finally had the chance to get away and do some fishing yesterday and went to Lake Shawnee. Buzz frogs in the weeds on the south end worked pretty well for largemouth, most of which were around 2 lbs. I also caught a few including 1 smallmouth in the cove with the covered dock on a spinnerbait. I think next week I’m going to try a new lake though. I’ve been driving by pony creek a lot for work lately and it looks like it might be worth the trip and it would be good to go somewhere other than Shawnee for once.
  4. Yeah there has been a bunch of jet skis and ski boats but the couple times I’ve been out it hasn’t been too terrible in terms of them going back and forth right next to you
  5. Hey everybody, it’s been a long time since I’ve checked in but I haven’t had time to go fishing much lately. I did get out to Shawnee twice in the past few weeks though and it’s been kind of slow both times. But what I did catch came right off of weed patches and the best way I found to catch them was a buzz frog drug right across the weeds
  6. I was just talking Lake Shawnee right there in Topeka. Shawnee county would be good too because it’s just down the road like Lake Shawnee No hurry but it might seal the deal if it does. And thank you to the both of you.
  7. I had thought about putting this in the electronics section, but I figured I’d be better off asking here. I’m thinking about upgrading to a new fish finder and I was wondering if any of them came preloaded with a map of lake Shawnee? My old Lawrence Elite (what became the hook) doesn’t have it, and I know a new chip is a possibility but side imaging seems like it would be fun to play with. I’m mostly looking at the EchoMAP, helix and the elite Ti2’s as they have the ability to make your own maps if the lake isn’t already mapped. I’m also open to any advice as to which one is best and why?
  8. I saw a little bit in the very back of the west boat ramp cove but that was it
  9. I made it out to lake Shawnee again today and found three bass willing to take a jerkbait. Nothing big but I’ll take them
  10. I have a 735 fury for these exact purposes and I haven’t went frogging since I bought it, but I did throw one in the yard and it did well. As for jig fishing I’ve pitched jigs to cover and threw a football jig and it’s been great
  11. I gave my step daughter a new pole for Christmas and she got some lures as well and she’s been itching to get out and use it, so we made a quick trip to Shawnee today before I went to work. We had to break ice to get on the water but we both caught a fish. She got a decent sized drum and I got one bass. I later lost my lucky craft pointer when I got a backlash and my braid to leader knot failed. If anyone heads there soon it’s towards the mouth of the golf course cove on the north side maybe 100’ in or so. I looked around but couldn’t find it.
  12. My best for the year was on a 1/2 oz double willow war eagle spinnerbait in mouse, it came in just shy of 4 lbs.
  13. I got the Tatula ct type r that Big Rick suggested in 8:1, at $104 it’s hard to beat. It’s on my jerkbait rod but it would be excellent for pitching as well. I have a regular Tatula on my pitching rod and I really like it but the smaller frame of the ct type r might be even better.
  14. I recently picked up a Powell inferno 6’10” medium moderate fast and paired it up with a 8:1 Tatula ct type r and I’m loving it for jerkbaits, I think it will be excellent for topwaters too
  15. I made it out to Shawnee today and found a couple with a jerkbait
  16. The Tatula ct type r is on tackle warehouse right now for $104. I picked one up and it seems really nice. I haven’t used it yet but I hope to in the next couple days
  17. I tend to use 4 lb mono on my ultralights, they mostly see use for crappie, bluegill, and the occasional trout, but I have caught bass up to 3lbs, and a few decent walleye on it.
  18. The big bait thing isn’t something I’ve really tried yet. But it has my interest for sure
  19. I’d be interested in hearing about it. I think hearing/seeing what big swimbaits catch in smaller bodies of water is cool
  20. https://postimages.org/ this is the site I use to resize images.
  21. I’m sure it will. My wife will be giving birth soon so I probably won’t be going much for the first couple weeks after that. But I’ll be out there and if I see you I’ll swing by and say hello
  22. Yeah I have an old alumacraft that I put a bow mount and a deck in. If I would have known that was you I would have stopped and said hello!
  23. I made it out to Lake Shawnee for just a few hours with very little to show for it. Two drum from a shakey head, 1 tiny jerkbait bass. And a lucky craft jerkbait that is missing a hook after something straightened out a split ring. The odd thing is I only had 10 lb test on and the drag wasn’t very tight at all. Are the ones that come on a lucky craft not very good?
  24. I recently bought a fury 735 for frogs, and pitching and I really like it. I have only caught two fish on it so far, but I can tell it’s going to serve me well. My uncle has one as well and he told me he likes it for the bigger whopper ploppers and I can see how it would be good for that too.
