The bat comes in multiple sizes, I own the smallest and the biggest is huge, if I remember right. I have not used one of those lures nor seen them in action but they look similar. The bat has rattles, a ton of vibration, and makes bubbles. If you change your retrieve rate, the action varies as well. The only thing that sucks is the wings bend so you have to bend them back at a 65° ish degree angle.
He said was going to use jigs, live bait, worms, plastics, and maybe a topwater or crankbait. I thought a MH would be better for these but if it was me I’d get a M/MF or M/F for all around too, I regret buying my MHF spinning rod now, I don’t have a gap to fill for my baitcaster.
The Pflueger President casting reel is suprisingly decent, I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to learn baitcasting. I had never used a baitcaster before using that one and within 5 minutes of using it I had it dialed in.
I can’t think of why you’d lose casting distance but the grinding could be a grease problem with the gears. They could have gotten wet and became rough on the retrieve.
That’s your choice, some people thumb it to cast further, I don’t because I think my casting distance is adequate most of the time and if I want to cast further I play with the brakes and spool tension.
I have heard Dobyns are good rods and they have great customer service, but I have read reviews that they aren’t the most sensitive for their price. The Daiwa Tatula Rod is more sensitive I’ve heard and has as many good reviews.
I’ve heard wonderful things about the Daiwa BG. They are ridiculously smooth too. I would use a Pflueger President if it was me, cheap, reliable and well reviewed.
The Curado DC has micro module gears and the Scorpion DC doesn’t, plus Shimano will have Curado DC parts for a year longer than the Scorpion. If it was me, I’d go Curado.
