  1. Can’t recommend a rod, I will say that there are a lot of good reels out there for a great price. For around $50 you almost can’t go wrong. The Mitchell 300 and Pflueger President are both great reels. I would spend more on a rod than a reel.
  2. Jeez, I’ve never tried fluoro, I’ve used braid for like 10 minutes and I definitely haven’t used a leader yet.
  3. I can’t imagine backlashing with that.
  4. The Daiwa DX LT is around that, Dobyns Fury or Colt, various Abu rods, another Bass X if you like it.
  5. I’d use straight braid then you could try a leader if you wanted to compare but just use braid for frogs. What’s your price range for a rod?
  6. What are you planning to use the reel for? What techniques?
  7. I use an XH for topwaters, the fish don’t need their jaws.
  8. Curado 70 was designed to pitch, flip and finesse lighter lures. I’ve heard that the SV TWS is overbraked for regular use, so I’d take that into consideration if you are going to be casting with it.
  9. Welcome to the forums, you could use the Revo SX in place of your father’s combo. You could also use it for topwater, jigs, frogs. The line and rod depends on what you want to use it for.
  10. Like baseball, you can still get hit though. That’s why I set the hook and duck.
  11. The line will always be semi loose using baits that aren’t constantly moving. I wouldn’t use Vanish, just from the bad reviews. It really doesn’t sound like there’s much of a problem with the line to me. You could switch to braid for more sensitivity. There could be weeds or small fish nibbling at the bait too.
  12. Get the schematic, take it apart in sections. Lay the parts on a few white paper towels so you can see them and for easy cleanup. Soak the bearings in rubbing alcohol, rinse with freshwater, let dry on a paper towel and give them a drop of reel oil made for use in saltwater. Look for corrosion or any signs of wear and I’d check the seals.
  13. Ok, thanks for the help
  14. Is the dual braking system nice for lighter lures?
  15. How do you like the combo? I hope they have another sale on them next year so I can get ML rod with an 8.3:1 reel and maybe a frog setup.
  16. You can use soap and water on them.
  17. I have $50 in gift cards from bass pro, I need a rod. I really like the feel of their carbonlite 2.0s. Any suggestions or opinions on their Carbonlite 2.0 Rods? (Not their other lineups or previous versions...)
  18. Definitely, I’ve had my Curado K less than a year and the lettering is already coming off. That’s with light use too.
  19. Big Bite Baits Craw or any of their similar products. The craw is like $2 for a 5 pack.
  20. How much is the combo?
  21. You could probably switch the bushing and drag washers out though.
  22. Google Images
  23. Does the Slx come with different colored brakes like the older Shimano reels?
  24. Woah, I guess it’s the luck of the draw, everyone I talked to were avid fishermen.
