  1. What kind of lures do you want to throw? It sounds like lighter ones, I don’t know a lot about Daiwa’s Tatula lineup but I’ve heard great things from both reels. If you want to throw lighter lures and have a lighter setup I’d go with the Curado 70. The Daiwa Tatula is around an ounce heavier. If it was me, I would probably get my hands on both and see which one felt better. They are really similar but the Tatula seems to have more “features”.
  2. I thought that SCIII was the blank..? The website says SCIII graphite blank.
  3. What do you mean how does fluorocarbon come into the mix?
  4. The Bass X has a lower graphite rating. The Mojo has the same blank as the Avid. The Bass X is a SCII graphite blank while the Mojo and Avid is a SCIII blank. If you’re new to fishing, I wouldn’t spend a ton on a combo, if you know you like it then pull the trigger. Comparing the Shimano Stradic and Daiwa BG is no competition, ones a $100 reel and the other’s a $250 reel. If you can afford the Stradic, that’s what I’d get.
  5. I’ll try to keep mine short, you won’t get a quality baitcaster for less than $80 unless on sale. Spring sales are around the corner, just wait to see what’s available. Abu Garcia makes quality reels for a decent price. I think saving your money for a Shimano Casitas would be your best option. The Casitas is better than the caenan, it’s lighter and has a better braking system. Buying a decent reel will save you money in the long run.
  6. Get the Mojo Bass instead, for a little bit more you get the sciii blank which is the same type used in the Avid. I’d get a Shimano Stratic too.
  7. I’m wondering about these bass mafia coffins, do they provide any advantages? Do you have one and like it? Is it worth the money? They look nice, but are quite expensive. I wouldn’t buy them to hold all of my tackle. Tell me your thoughts.
  8. Have you ever fished a spinning or baitcaster?
  9. Oh ok, I saw your cork grips that you made and they look absolutely amazing!
  10. Never even heard of TN grips, any real advantage over reel seats? I’d be interested in trying them on my spinning gear, that’s where I put my hand.
  11. I use tiny bowlines, it’s one of the strongest knots that you can tie. It was really easy to learn.
  12. Have you tried any Mojo bass rods?
  13. Thanks, wanting to try cranks, jigs, light pitching and flipping and a few other techniques this year too There’s very little risk in stores though.
  14. I’m weary of eBay, sometimes it’s cheaper to buy a rod from the manufacturer than to buy from a third party and lose your money and have to buy a rod from the manufacturer.
  15. This was really helpful, thank you.
  16. Yeah, I can’t spend that much on a rod, I’m only 16. I just wanted one good all around rod. I was looking at Dobyns and St. Croix, I think I’m going to go with Dobyns but I’m not sure yet, I want to get my hands on one first.
  17. Do you fish tournaments?
  18. I haven’t fished a ton but I like worms, top water,spinnerbaits...
  19. Do custom rods or built rods offer any benefits? Are they more versatile? Are they(built rods) cheaper? I think building one would be cool but is it cost efficient/effective for the first time? What does a good built rod cost? For me a good rod is like a St. Croix, Fenwick, or Dobyns. I want a versatile rod but manufacturered options are really limited. I’m not a tournament angler, but I fished almost everyday in the summer. I can’t really afford to shell out a more than $130 ish after purchasing my baitcaster.
  20. Zebco Bite Alert Spinning Combo. It’s only $50 and it can handle 1-8 oz lures and 17-50 line. I use it for my savage gear bat, duck, and iBobber. Well worth it, it’s cheaper than buying all those lures again.
  21. Yeah, I’d rather have quality over quantity. I’ve heard good things from KastKing but I’m weary of them. Do you know if the reels you were looking at were anodized? And what metal were they?
  22. I have a Zebco Bite Alert Spinning Reel (Size 60) it has 2 bearings, 16 lbs of drag and it was only $50 for the rod and reel. The line rating is 17-50 lbs, the lure rating is 1-8 oz, it’s a MH fiberglass rod with EVA foam and it’s a 2 piece. I bought it for catfishing, throwing my iBobber, duck, and bat so I don’t loose them. It’ll work in saltwater, I think for 2 bearings it’s pretty smooth. It’s a great combo.
  23. The only reason I want to super tune my own reel is because I am afraid to ship it off to someone. Here’s the site I’ve read through a couple times. I would be very careful and stay away from power tools and high grit sandpaper. https://www.bassresource.com/fishing/supertune-baitcaster.html
  24. Delaware Valley Tackle does Super Tuning, I asked Mike questions about how he does it and I would definitely send mine to him. Polishing the gear wouldn’t do anything, you have to polish the friction points. I don’t mean this as an insult but it sounds like you don’t know a whole lot about super tuning, if you try to do it, I’d read up first. Some reels aren’t worth it because they are free floating spools. I have a Curado K as well. Ask@Delaware Valley Tackle his opinion.
  25. I had to send mine in because it sounded odd and I wasn’t about to take apart a $200 reel. I think it was something with the gear or maybe a faulty bearing. I’m not too happy, I’ll see how I feel about them once I get my reel back. The dial just needs turned a couple revolutions then it’s fine. People don’t go on the internet to write good reviews either. I feel like I just got a bad one though, Shimano hasn’t turned me away from their products.
