  1. Get a Abu Garcia Revo Toro Beast or a Calcutta.
  2. When it’s colder I like to scratch them on the bottom, very slowly, not much movement. Most people are too concerned about the fish seeing the line, they might see it but they won’t put 2 and 2 together.. It’s a fish. Reel before you set the hook. You’re overthinking it.
  3. Great, thank you, I’ve tried real magic on my Big Game and it didn’t do anything
  4. How old is your Trilene big game? How long have you had it?
  5. I use a Johnson Beetle Spin in a pond stocked with small mouth, I catch a smallmouth almost every single cast.
  6. I’d put thicker mono line on, most people like Trilene Big Game so use around 17# or 15# and that will help with backlashes. As for the combo, we’ll need more information to say what it’s good for. Could you give the brand and specs of the rod and reel?
  7. Send it in to Shimano, I had to send mine in too, they replaced the pinion gear, drive gear and a ball bearing. I got mine back in about 3 ish weeks. I had to pay shipping to them ($15) and they covered it back. They will want you to exchange it, if you can first.
  8. Have you tried pushing on the side plate with more distributed pressure? Like hold both sides of the side plate down and try to latch it.
  9. I don’t fish rocky areas or anything, I take care of what I have. Do Rapalas last a while? What’s the advantage to balsa? How do they hold up in moss?
  10. Use a wire wheel/brush, that should get the rust off, then like J Francho said, sharpen it.
  11. Frogging? I use a mh but I don’t have like any vegetation where I fish and there aren’t huge bass around here, it’s really your decision without knowing the conditions and the size of your bass.
  12. It’s not about a specific feature, it’s about the quality of the reel in whole, you can have a flashy reel with a single nice feature or you can have a quality reel that will last for years and that doesn’t have a gimmicky feature. With spinning reels the double gear ratio would not make a difference in anything besides the speed, in baitcasters 2 gear ratios would change speed and power.
  13. Probably line memory, just get some new line.
  14. I feel like speed on spinning reels don’t matter much at all.
  15. No KVD Line and Lure or Booyah’s Toadrunner? Disappointed!
  16. What # test were you using? Was it twisted or dug in?
  17. Worth the $10? It’s $10 and it’s subjective. I would just pick out whichever feels best to you, I’ve heard great things from Dobyns Fury and pretty good things from the people who have tried Shimano’s Rods. I’m going to probably buy a Dobyns Fury soon. Good luck.
  18. 6.x:1, it has enough torque for bigger baits that pull, you can speed up your retrieve, (I) can fish at the speed I’m comfortable at. With faster gear ratios, you loose torque/power and slower gear ratios you loose speed but gain power. The weight of the gears and many other factors can affect the amount of torque a reel has as well.
  19. Just started to fish more last year but I like my wacky rigged green with black flecks yum dingers, caught 30ish fish on a whole bag one night.
  20. I have Berkley Big Game too, it retains a ton of memory though.
  21. Would medium be fine for jigs? Which Dobyns Fury casting rod would be Medium/Fast?
