  1. I have only just begun to experience with braid. I have used Flouro since the beginning. I ma originally from New Mexico, so not a lot of heavy grass. I currently live in NC now, so braid is a must as almost every lake type body of water is heavy grass n pads. braid is a must. I have been fishing with 25 pound, but I think im going to downsize to 15. Even with a decent 2 plus feet of flouro leader (10 pound) I still see less hits. The diameter is to large on the 25 and easy to see. Thanks for the thread. I am getting my learnin on for the braid game. Cheers
  2. My boy goes fishing with me everytime I go. He knows when I'm going fishing, and he craves it like I do. He is almost 5, likes to reel em in and take pictures, but doesn't quite have the patience for the set up yet. As soon as my daughter understands the reel its game time.
  3. Smallmouth seem to like the colder water more then Largies, so the top water bite should not disappear at 60 degrees. It honestly should be even better. Colder water brings in a better flow of oxygen. As long as the PH isn't destroyed by a local plant/hurricane, then the Smallies and even Largies will be roaming in eddies waiting for the baitfish to get lost in current. If top water for some reason in your area still seems weak, then try a wacky worm or Neko rig. I have had great success with them both in rivers. Also craws work great to, just be mindful of color and presentation. Good Luck!
  4. Jigs are great year round. Only time I put a jig down is for topwater in early morning, or if I need really slow finesse fishing, which then I will go neko or wacky worm. Good Luck!
  5. Anytime a PB is caught makes for a great day. Pretty fish. Hopefully soon you will catch a 5 pounder!
  6. Those smallmouth are TANKS! Awesome job!
  7. Fall here in Eastern NC has been a little weird this week. We had a pretty decent cold front come in, yesterday's high of about 75, around 5 a.m. it got down to 38 degress. With that much temp change in such a short amount of time the fish are stressed. The oxygen levels are moving quite a bit to. Today it got around 80+ so I am sure this weekend wont be much different. Either way though I will be out on the water. Hopefully soon the water temps balance back out so we can get to the real Fall time bass fishing. That being said the Fall time doesn't produce as much in quantity, but in my area so far quality gets way better. Fish group up more in this time of year and I often have great luck fishing mouths of rivers that feed into lakes/ponds. Bait fish seem to collect near those entrances/exits from river to lake, and we all know if there's baitfish, somewhere close there is Bass. Tight Lines!
  8. I pucker up and send a fat one on the lips!! just kidding, but every fish I do catch will get a peck, my way of saying "thanks for letting me crank another hole in your jaw". Good stuff!
  9. Very good idea. I am only a couple days into this forum, as I'm not really computer savvy. I am currently AD USAF been in for 7 yrs. I will be looking into how to donate as soon as the day is over. Thank you for your service.
  10. Fish are smart. You can throw the same bait, but if you give the same look chances are small for another bite. Try tossing a different angle, or try a new bait in general. Remember its not just what you cast but also how you cast and the action your giving it. Stouter hook with a medium/heavy rod will help to in my opinion. Tight Lines Yall!
