  1. That is a very pretty Smallie ?
  2. Great video. This technique is still used modern day. And for good reason I’d say! That is some serious action right there!
  3. I don’t use anything fancy for ice fishing reels, I just take my smaller sized trout and bass reels and throw em on my jigging sticks. Unless your trying to catch big pike and lake trout, Shimano Siennas would be fine and they’re cheap. I’ve caught 5lb bass through the ice on noodle rods and 4lb test and they don’t even take any drag in the cold water. I like my Cabelas Prodigy medium jigging rods, the lighter ones are too wimpy even for trout fishing, I broke one setting the hook on a 2lb rainbow. I prefer the ones around 30” long. Haven’t tried any fenwicks, just pick one that feels good to you. If you have higher end taste, st croix mojo makes ice rods. I don’t like the handle on them though. I bought a pair of custom 30” Loomis ice rods from eBay, they’re made out fly rod tips and have a crisp parabolic bend and full cork handles. Anxious to try them out this season. If you’re into using tip-ups and live bait, I would recommend the “HT Ice Riggers”, it’s a tip-up that uses your jigging rods instead of a hand line. More fun IMO. if you get any, make sure they have the adjustable rod holder and not that plastic tube like the pic.
  4. Lol Stick Marsh on a jet ski. Looks fun I’d try it, just not with alligators.
  5. If I had to pick one.. it might be Aaron Wiebe of Uncut Angling, and hopefully Manny Milas can come along. Fits my style best.
  6. How many hours? Head unit only or comes with transducer, mounting hardware etc?
  7. 1. Catch the little ones in the mountain stream 2. Remove guts 3. Butter the cast Iron 4. Add pepper (and/or a few light seasonings) 5. Cook whole 6. When cooked properly, score the skin around the neck and gently pull on the head up away from the body, the spine and ribs will slide right out leaving you will all of the meat and the smooth tasty skin. You are left with an almost cartoonish fish head and skeleton. Discard and enjoy ? With bigger ones up to 18”, including salmon and rainbows we just remove the head and tail to make em fit, but same thing, the spine and ribs will pull right out when it’s perfectly cooked. No filleting for this guy.
  8. Judging by OP’s pic and the tackle warehouse pic, which don’t sport the level wind logo, they must make a spool that’s not levelwound..
  9. Yup, Scott, Toxic and J nailed it. Even in calm water, standing on a dock or bridge, any amount of current or slight movement of the hand makes looking at the screen tough. I bought the compact Aqua-Vu for something like $350 and ended up just returning it. I hardly ever return anything but just couldn’t justify that kind of money for this little tiny screen, no record function and of course was just disappointed with what could be seen. Ended up with a cheap China brand “Eyoyo” with record function and only use it through the ice in crystal clear shallow water, with a remote control tripod.
  10. You will never convince me that Florida is paradise?
  11. In Laymans terms is this simply because of a smoother surface on FC? Sorry to go off topic with that. Hot cocoa isn’t my thing. Gimme a nice Porter, or perhaps some spiked hot cider, it’s been awhile.
  12. For trolling I assume? On my small rig I have some of the cheap Wise brand holders, similar to what WRB is talking about and Down-East clamp-ons. The Wise work ok but are pretty chinsey. I’ll be using Scotty’s and DownEast on my new rig. Cableas brand has one that I think is made by Scotty. They’re a harder plastic and are much more refined. Down-East makes a variety of tired and true alloy rod holders. Mostly clamp on style but have bolt on too. They secure the rod and reel very tight and when you get a fish, you just pull strait up to release the rod. DownEast and wise;
  13. Yeah they still make em. 201 is on sale at cabelas right now.
  14. 1. Actually go fishing more than like a dozen times.. Hectic year 2. Try jerkbaits 3. Break a PB Bass, a week on the Stick Marsh in March will give me opportunity for that. 4. Catch a Moosehead or Rangely Monster Brookie 5. Improve my fly fishing skills. Regarding Fly fishing, take a proper lesson before trying to learn on your own. It’s way harder to correct your poor form if you’ve already been doing it awhile. I’m sure Jb will help ya out. I took a lesson at Eldridge Brothers in Cape Neddick, he was a good instructor.
  15. You do realize that trout and catfish are aggressive predators too, that hit artificial lures, lol
  16. Sorry for your loss. You say it’s most likely with 50yds or so of where it lost signal. I’d just borrow/rent a canoe or kayak and go poking around with the rake you spoke of. Sometimes if you want something done, you gotta do it yourself.
  17. Unexpectingly? ?
  18. I figured it wasn’t just our state that shares the joke lol. “State(s) bird”
  19. Those torqueedos are pretty cool. But I still don’t see the real value. I looked into a 3hp equivalent awhile back but it’s not worth it. the 3hp and the 80hp only have alittle over 1/2 hr runtime at full throttle, and the 80hp you speak of says the lithium battery weighs 564lbs. Only to run wide open for 35 minutes. Where are you considering it’s better than the merc 75?
  20. Historically our ice out date is April 15th in southern Maine. Early to mid May in the western mountains and sometimes even later than that. Last year was the 18th here, the year before, MARCH 13th! And we were open water fishing in January! Wierd year. The only ice shacks out were pulled in at night, and the guy who left his out...well it fell in. We had the beach community that year.
  21. What makes you say that? A Jon can go several miles on a single charge, and you can go alone or with a partner, sit or stand, plenty of storage space as well and room for a spare battery just Incase. Affordable and rugged as well.
  22. Thanks for posting this, something inside me needs several of them. I have a feeling this will make a great bait for my fishing style, Hard and soft water. ?
  23. Sounds like some of you have never experienced going through 4 dozen shiners in a couple of hours between 2 guys. What’s boring about that? Tug on the line... that’s the point right
  24. I feel like I went off topic a bit To the original question- I think with just one battery your better off with the premade battery box with integrated over current protection. Even seasoned mechanics and marinas make horrible splicing jobs that will fail sooner or later. Poor splices corrode easily causing problems, and can cause fires, and the fuse or breaker may never notice. With a premade assembly you won’t have to worry about making multiple splices or crimping on terminals to connect fuse holders and whatnot.
