  1. Thank you! I didnt even consider that. All my older spinner reels are alot bigger. Yes it was. I made sure I spooled it correctly. Thank you! I never knew that before. I used to have all larger spinning reels and have been using all baitcasters with braid for a few years.
  2. So today I decided to buy a new rod and reel which was a dobyn fury with a Daiwa legalis 1000 reel for fishing ned rigs and other finesse rigs. After spooling it with 10# sufix advanced hyper copolymer it became possessed. If even a small amount of slack is left in the line it shoots out 2 yards of line. I have been using baitcaster for a few years now so I haven't dealt with spinning gear in a while but I never remember line shooting off my spool like this before. Anyone have an idea why or how to stop it? I initially thought maybe I overfilled my spool as I filled it slightly more than I used to but it's down to half a spool and still doing it. I tried running a bunch out and stretching it which seemed to help a little but it's still not great.
  3. ☝️ what he said
  4. A slip bobber and a crawler with 3+ inches hanging down. Keep it just above the weeds. Can be a pain if there’s a lot of panfish but it works. I run in to a lot of people that are surprised seeing me and others fishing smallies in a local river with a night crawler but it works. Catch the occasional carp or catfish but the crawler catches more bass than lures there probably 60-70% of the time
  5. Despite putting a hook through their mouth and dragging them through the water I have a soft spot for fish. I almost always catch and release. I occasionally will go fishing for whitefish, bluegill , or catfish and keep a few to eat. The bass by me don’t taste that good.
  6. Good news is I got it out of gear now and shifting good. Bad news is in the process a piece in the control box broke and now I’m on the hunt for a new piece or new control box which isn’t going well.
  7. Love my St. Croix Rods. Just got a Dobyn a couple weeks ago and it equals St. Croix in my opinion.
  8. That would be interesting to put to the test with things like senkos. Switch casts between solid black and black and blue and see if there’s a difference. If there would or wouldn’t be a consistent difference that would be cool to see first hand to prove this study
  9. Mercury mark 55A. I called a couple places to see if they would look at it and they said they won’t even look at an outboard that old. Thinking about taking it apart myself to see if I can figure it out.
  10. What I’m seeing though is crap used like 40 year old 5 hp motors for the same price as used boat with a 40 hp motor, trolling motor, sonar, trailer, and everything else to go with it. And new motors alone are not worth buying at all. It’s crazy really.
  11. I have an old boat with an outboard from the 50’s that’s stuck in gear and I can’t even find anyone willing to look at it. So I started looking at outboard motors to replace it and what I’m finding is either really old motors under 10 hp for 700 dollars or newer motors that cost more than buying an entire boat with the same motor and everything else including. I don’t understand this at all. Why do motors cost more than buying an entire boat with the motor? Am I better off just getting a newer boat?
  12. I fish spoons for pike in the same places I fish for bass and generally I catch a lot of pike and very few bass on them. Not sure why but that’s how it is for me. I like spoons they just aren’t in my bass box. If you look at me profile pick it’s my go to spoon for pike.
  13. I ordered a bunch of zoom plastics from Academy today. They are still on sale plus 20% off code. PayPal is not working from their checkout for some reason.
  14. Both good reels. I like may Tatula better. I do not agree that the TWS is a gimmick. I have a Tatula and cabelas arachnid that have it and I think it helps when casting on a windy day. Might not make as much difference for really experienced casters. But it’s not necessary so I would say find the reels somewhere and see which one feels better in your hand
  15. I good base for starting IMO 1. 3/0 EWG worm hooks for Texas rig and 1/0 weedguard hooks for wacky rig with plastic worms of your choosing (senkos, yum dingers, zoom) 2. Some Rat-l-traps (or other lipless crankbaits) in craw color and depending on location either a shad or bluegill imitation. 3. Squarebill crankbaits same colors as #2 I know people on here love Tackle Warehouse but really depending on where you live that’s not the most economical. I’m fortunate enough to live near a cabelas, Scheels, and numerous sporting goods stores with large lure selections. I only order lures if they are on sale.
