  1. Since your new i wouldn't use 8 pound. Try using 12 or 14 lbs Berkley trilene xl smooth casting. I feel this line is very user friendly especially to people who are new. Also it Sounds like your using to much breaks and or spool tension knob is to tight. Turn breaks off reel lure to tip of pole and tighten tention knob. Press thumB Bar and slowly turn knob till lure falls. It should fall at a steady rate and when it hits ground the spool should stop with no overrun. Now turn breaks to half way point or little higher if you want. Make sure you use thumb to control spool. Try thumbing it this way moderate pressure in beginning low pressure in middle and moderate pressure towards end of cast. Once you train your thumb and get better at casting you can start lowering the breaks. You shouldn't worry about distance right now. You gotta learn the basics first. Once you learn how to use your thumb and setup reel your distance will increase
  2. I hate doing wheel bearings its such a pain. Especially when its seized in the hub. I rather do a timing belt and water pump then that.
  3. Reason why I said wet it is because I talked to a handful of people who try saying you have to wet fluro before tying a knot or it comes out.
  4. Agree 100% they are idiot proof. Buy her one and go fishing together.
  5. Same. Every time I get a new reel I always strip it down do a full cleaning then I relube everything with a approiate amount of grease and oil. Only thing I do differently then everyone else is my bearings. While everyone else soaks in chemicals I use keyboard cleaner in a can. All you need to do is put the straw on gap between the roller and shield and blow everything out. Make sure you do both sides and go around the whole thing. I've been doing it this way for about 10 years with no issues. Its always worked great for me. Plus you can clean bearings on the fly this way. If you want to make sure there really clean give them a acetone bath first.
  6. There still might be something caught up in the bearing causing it to make noise. Something simular happened to me awhile ago I cleaned out all the old grease added oil put reel back together and it was making noise and felt rough. I fully flushed it then used a qtip to clean it. After I used reel oil cleand up the excess and after 30 min of fishing it was fine.
  7. Add more its probably still dry. Add it right to the bearing its self then add thin even coat on sleeve
  8. My bad I didn't finish setting up my profile yet. I went back and read my post I can see why you thought that. The way I typed it I sound like an advertisement.
  9. Clean it really well and use oil not grease.
  10. Early this month I decided to buy a new casting reel. After a few days of looking around I decided to buy a lews reel. A short time later I decided to buy Team Lews Custom Pro Speed Spool slp. All I can say is this reel is amazing. Its super lite, very well built, extremely easy to tune and will cast far. The way the reel sits on pole makes it easy handle not to mention comfortable. The 4 pin 27 position centrifugal breaks are by far the best breaking system I ever used. This reel is also moderately priced at $260 dollars. The reel is a one piece aluminum frame with carbon sideplates and handle. It also uses airplane grade materials. This reel is partically impossible to backlash if tuned properly. With this reel you will be able to cast really far with ease. Few days ago i went to a FOOTBALL FIELD to see how far I can cast. I decided to bring 3 lures with me. I did 5 cast for each lure. First lure was a 6 gram or .21 oz blue fox spinner. I was able to cast 44.4 to 47.7 yards. Next was a 10gram or .35 oz rooster tail. I was able to cast 53.8 to 57.1yards. Finally i tried something really light. A 4 gram or .14 oz blue fox spinner I was able to cast that 30.2 to 33.9 yards. These distances were measured the real way, the accurate way in a football field with yard markers. My conclusion is if your looking for a reel that's well built, very low profile, cast a mile, feels great in hand and impossible to backlash if set rite then get this reel. You will not be dissapointed at all its simple amazing and it only cost $ 260 dollars which isn't that much for a casting reel.
  11. I've been using fluro for years. I'm only 29 and ive been fishing with Baitcasters for about 22 years. First off you don't need line condtioner or to wet it that's all b.s. The reason why people have issues with fluro is simple. They aren't setting up the reel properly or they don't know how to properly cast. There not putting the line on properly and most importantly they get the wrong pound line. As a rule fluro has a thinner diameter then most monos. For instance Berkley trilene 12lbs smooth casting. Is .013 inch .33mm where 12lbs pline fluroclear is .012 inch and .31mm. Both are the same pound but the fluro is thinner. So if your having issues just simply get a little heavier line. Also if your knots are coming out your not tieing them rite. I've never had one knot every come out on me and I've never once wet the line.
