  1. @Catt didn't say every angler moving to Texas was smart.....just that all the smart anglers were moving here......semantics
  2. Me: I don't need any more tackle....I still have so much I haven't used and I just got a lot of these things from Mike like last week Also me: Buy it....it's 20% off....you need to buy all of it....
  3. I still have a couple of those also. My uncle worked for Saia trucking in the 80's, and they handled moving Mister Twister's products to stores across the county. He would bring me home cards and cards of soft plastics all the time, all different kinds. They were about all I used, since my folks didn't have a whole lot of money to spend on fishing tackle.
  4. I always tell people I was in a band in school, but then my wife corrects me and says I was in “the” band. I played Tuba starting in the 6th grade and throughout my school career. Loved marching season, loved concert season. I was pretty decent, made the all state band a couple years in HS. My son is now in the 8th grade and is in his third year of playing...the Tuba.
  5. ^^^ That's kind of what I've come to understand too. Maybe you're dealing with grass/brush on the bottom, and the football jig is not the best choice there. Arky style heads come through that type of cover better, in my research.
  6. If you really want to just catch one, tie a piece of raw bacon on a string and lower it down into a chimney. You’ll feel it when they start to grab it, then just slowly....(practice your jig fishing here, move it super slow) pull it out and I bet there’s a craw hanging on. We used to catch them in ditches by the dozens like this as kids.
  7. Cause Texas is where it’s at!! This is cool, looking forward to getting to drop into the shop since they’ll be so close!
  8. I wish i could help you out here, but I'm a little lost in it all myself. I've been straight braid for many years now, but when I started fishing regularly again a year ago or so, I decided I wanted to go the leader route. I like the idea of flouro when it comes to bottom presentations, since it seems to give me less slack than braid.....but I haven't managed to get a leader to last any time at all, and have lost more lures than I would like to admit (as a bank fisherman, tougher to recover). I've now got big game on a couple setups, braid on a couple and flouro on one and am just taking a different one out with me each time I go to try to figure out what I like. I like the idea of flouro.....but my track record has been crappy with it with a lot of break-offs on hooksets and such. I like braid, but again, I know it's not ideal for all situations, and it makes breaking off a hung lure a real pita.
  9. Jigs are something I'm just starting to work on....and I just lost one of my last ones on my lunch break testing out the reels @Delaware Valley Tackle cleaned up for me. Great time to stock up on some more....order placed. Thanks for the sale!!
  10. 1. Smithwick Devil’s Toothpick 2. Booyah buzzbait, 1/2oz white 3. Mann’s Jelly Worm - junebug 4. & 5. Culprit ribbontail worm - tequila sunrise
  11. That’s great! My dad used to take me fishing in the middle of winter. I’d be on the bank fishing all day freezing my butt off, and he’d be sitting in the truck with the heater on listening to the ball game on the radio! ?
  12. @Catt you run on Toledo and Rayburn with that? No problems on the big water? Looking forward to seeing this build. I’m in the market for a boat after the first of the year and haven’t decided whether I want a big one or a smaller one like these!
  13. 80 here in Texas again today. I went out at lunch (the benefits of working from home and only 5 mins to the lake) and caught a couple nice ones on a buzzbait and a fluke up shallow in some dying lily pads. None close to the 8lber I landed on Sunday, but not dinks either.
  14. This was slightly disappointing to me. I was expecting an RC vehicle which closely resembled a dead animal that you could have fun with freaking people out by making it move when they got close to it.
  15. I have 4 old green Curados (2 SF, 2 regular) with DVT right now. Just jumping into this thread to follow as I will need to pick up some rods once they come back to match with them!
  16. I bought one about six months ago for my son to use, as he had outgrown the zebco spincast he’s used for years. He’s learned to throw it and it’s been a good reel. No complaints so far!
  17. Welcome, from a fellow Texan!
  18. Hey everyone! New member from Texas (currently in DFW, but moving to Chandler, on Lake Palestine in a couple weeks). I've been fishing since I was old enough to hold a pole. The few times we would have cold winters here in Texas, my dad would drive me out to our lake property in East Texas, and he would sit in the truck with the heater on and the football game on the radio while I tossed grubs or whatever else I could get my hands on at the bass (caught my first PB this way, a nice 5lb'er in the middle of December). More recently I've been fishing the south side of Grapevine (from the bank, I don't own a boat....yet) and tons of neighborhood ponds around DFW. Once we move, I'll be picking up a nice bass boat and looking to get out on Palestine and Fork to do some more serious bass fishing! Site has been great so far, I've been reading like crazy!
