  1. I've done a little experimenting so far. Not much, haven't thought about making jigs, which would b an easier place to start. Using a torch, you can "forge" the tungsten into the shape you need, one thing holding me up was a hole for the line to pass through. Making jigs wouldn't need to have a smooth hole. I'll bring some tungsten pieces and a couple hooks into work when I get back from vaca and tinker a little more.
  2. I wish I could here. 95% of the water that's not part of the main lake or it's tributaries, is private land.
  3. That's great its making a difference. We (a local jeep club) did the same thing and placed a handful of trash cans on a local trail system. Its amazing how much, simply providing a receptacle, will encourage people to use it, yet it also proves an amazing fact that people don't even care unless that said receptacle is there. I've always carried a bag for trash, always made sure anyone with me understands that no trash leaves the jeep, to include cigarette butts, and I always pack out more than I pack in. Thanks for bringing this to the forum.
  4. I didn't do so good. Didn't catch anything, but did manage to send a $5 tungsten weight across the cove. That's $15 in weights in 3 days. Lol.
  5. I do the same, but with a text message.
  6. I will be for the last half of it. Not because of it, just by chance tho as I get out of work early afternoon and go fishing for an hr or 2 at that time daily.
  7. All those different hooks are just options when it comes to the style hook for the most part. I use a simple 3/0 or 4/0 For all my plastics. Toads, worms, creature baits, paddle tails, all of them. I have a small handful of flipping hooks, but still use the ewg hooks most of the time. That spring thing u mentioned is a keeper for the bait. I wish all hooks had them. I picked up a pack of those "spring things just by themselves so I can use them on whatever hook I chose. I myself, do a whole lot better with plastics over hard baits. That's just me tho. I really fell in love with them when I got to stop picking grass out of my bait every cast.
  8. I been looking for one similar to that spiderwire one, I just have a hard time spending that much money on one (got a greedy jeep at home that wants to take all my money). Altho right now DICK'shas a sale that put the little jawbone 360 sling pack on sale for $10. I imagine outta gonna b pretty small, but I try to pack as light as I can. Still, even tho it's $10, I'm not 100% sure I'm ready to pull the trigger.
  9. I just got that email as well. I wish they would wait one more day and have the sale on payday.
  10. I hear you on the cost factor, it's still worth digging around. For the matter of melting, I been thinking I don't really necessarily need to melt into liquid and poor if I cam simply fuse together, which could be done with less heat, and more pressure. Or even braised together and polished smooth. There is more option popping in my head the longer I think about it. Thanks. That gives me a better understanding of what they are doing. Still, I've found there is always multiple paths around a problem to come up with the solution. May not always be the proper path or acceptable to a certain procedure, but can still to acceptable results.
  11. Ah, I'm a believer in, "where there is a will, there is a way" All bring this topic to a fabrication forum where people do things like this all the time. Not necessarily melting tungsten, but fabricate simply thinking outside the box
  12. Yes, I understand that. Which is the reason it's used for welding.
  13. It's not very big, especially after looking through this thread, but this is my first punch fish and I enjoyed the hell outta it. Most excitement I've had in a few days. Been fishing this spot for a while, and decided to try punching for the first time, today.
  14. Has anyone ever, or known anyone to make their own tungsten weights? I'm a welder and used a lot of tungsten electrodes over the years. I've always saved all the pieces to short to use any more. Not sure why I've saved them, but since that stuff is expensive and there isn't much of a scrap market, maybe I can make or get someone to make me some sinkers.
  15. Welcome from Knoxville also, Steve
  16. The weeds can get might thick in spots. I picked up a couple punching weights and hooks, so I'm gonna give that a try. Like I said, it will get very thick, and a vehicle presentation may sometimes b the only way to be able to get the bait get down to them, assuming they r deep in it. But I will tie a lipless on one of my rods keep it with me. And yes, the weightless and belly weight presentations are working, I would still like to be able to get the hang of a Texas rig. Just another tool in the tackle box.
  17. Welcome from Knoxville.
  18. Thanks I've seen a 2 of those 3. Probably 2 or 3 times. Great videos. Seems like I just need practice. When would one want to peg a weight vs not? Besides heavy punching
  19. Thanks for the videos, Glenn, I'll check them out when we break is over. Lol Deep, 9 out of 10 times its 10ft or less. Being stuck on the bank doesn't offer much depth for the areas I have access too. I think most of the vegi is hydrilla. Really thick in spots. Spots that don't have that seem to have just regular ol crab grass like u would find in your yard.
  20. I'm really struggling with a Texas rigged bait. Take the sinker off, weightless & needless, or even a belly weighted ewg hook and I'm getting pretty consistent. But that sliding weight, or even a pegged one, and I struggle. Seems like vegetation gets caught between the weight and hook often and find myself trying to clear it more than fish it. Also I never get bit. Even switched to weightless in the same target and landed a fish. I've tried 1/8 oz, and 1/4 ounce, brass and led, brass cracker and not. Braid, and flourocarbon, simply no avail. Just seems like any weight on the line really hinders me. Ive tried retrieving just about n e possible way I can think of. Still, nothing works like a weightless plastic, or belly weighted hook.
  21. Thanks! Yeah, a buddy had taken us out a couple times on his john boat. Each time I think my girlfriend gets closer and closer to being ok With a little john boat. She really wants to try and find a pontoon boat this winter, which would pose a problem towing. My jeep is a big Cherokee with one ton axles build for the the rocks. Welded rear diff and all. Id try towing a john boat with it but nothing much bigger. She had to have some sort of artificial propulsion so she won't go for a kayak, altho I'm thinking more and more about getting one for myself anyway. I was just talking with my buddy about looking into hiring a guide for a day. I may have to look your people up. Thanks for the post, and I'll send you a pm one day when ours slow at work. Thats usually when my mind wonders the most. Lol.
  22. So with all this being said, how small of a pond is too small? I wonder about many little ponds I see. Somewhere around 20ft x 20ft, probably only a couple feet deep at most. Some are retention pond in similar square footage
  23. Haha. Yes, I've experienced this with them a few times. Good buys, but I get so confused when the delivery dates start arriving.
  24. The DICK's here in Knoxville has 0 fishing department. The academy sports has a decent selection and good prices, but DICK's has nothing in the store. Just the usual apparel and golf stuff.
  25. Had to use this the other day, and once I was able to figure out how to roll the eye of the hook into the gill, the hook came out almost text book. Altho I was alittle uncomfortable starting at something that looks like a butthole.
