  1. I fish a Smallmouth only quarry pond often, But as far as I can tell It's only forage is bluegill tiny ones at that, I've layed crawfish traps and used bobber and worms (surprisingly worms and gills don't catch nearly as much as lures would) 1. Is this an unhealthy pond? I catch probably 5-15 5 inch bass a day, acording to my friend 5 years ago the average was 12 inch, It's not my pond but I really don't want to see this pond end up starving itself Should I add crawfish or some other baitfish? (Atm even the quarry people themselves don't know who exactly owns it) 2. What would the best lures be for this? It's a silt/rock bottom seems to be 50+ ft deep in the middle but quickly rises to about 5-10 ft, I see huge bass jumping at birds but they are beyond casting distance, My main success in this quarry is Wacky senkos, jerkbaits and spooks. biggest I've caught is about half of what I've seen pulled out of this pond a few years ago (my friend has pulled 5 pounders I've only seen and caught 1 1/2 pounders)
  2. I get that but I prefer species that can be unhooked easily, and dont destroy half of my baits (I've already lost at least 6 $15 baits) I guess my only problem is the place I live is a dead zone (On lake simcoe) theres not a single pond with bass until I decide to bike for 2 hours (30 minute drive but I dont have a vehicle)
  3. Tried fishing it again to no avail still cant cast to the pads (theres a huge pocket wih just pads but it's literally unaccesable for me) I live in Ontario and here is a very unhealthy no bass anywhere but lake simcoe and little lake in barrie not even dinks (I would glady fish for half pound bass all day long but theres nowhere that has numbers or a reliable way to catch a bass I live in Ontario and here is a very unhealthy no bass anywhere but lake simcoe and little lake in barrie not even dinks (I would glady fish for half pound bass all day long but theres nowhere that has numbers or a reliable way to catch a bass ( thereare places but they are hour plus bike rides Sinde I dont have a vehihle)
  4. How do you guys tell the depth of pond water, I have a pond (barely accessable because of reeds theres about 2 or 3 "swims" they are more just areas that I myself pushed the reeds out of the way and so far max depth looks to be maybe 4 or 5 ft only caught perch so far, A jumbo perch bit my 3/0 EWG with a 4" kvd caffeine shad but no signs of bass at all (theres a lillypad filled area that looks to be 1.5ft deep or less not to mention its the hardest spot to get to I havent even gotten a cast into the lillies yet
  5. I have a huge heart shaped lake but I can only fish one tiny hump that is on the southern side of the lake and it's extremely pressured I was fishing today for 4 hours and I got 4 or 5 bites missed them all and broke one off on the set (35 lb braid so could've been a pike) but guy infront of me throwing his baits miles out catches a 2.3 bass and keeps it, now I know why I cant catch fish here
  6. You guys are lucky here 50lb J-braid is $50 (j braid is the horribly flimsy braid stuff that loops over itself and digs into itself broke off mid cast more times than I could count and 30 lb power pro is also 50 bucks Canada ontario vibes.
  7. Man it sounds live everyone else had so much more versatility in waterways even other bank fisherman, I'm sitting here only able to fish a single point on a small lake and then the entire shoreline of a Great Lake but then others have entire ponds with bass (idk whats up with Ontario but these ponds hold nothing but minnows and the occasional panfish)
  8. How should I fish an area that I'm stuck in? Got a bite on a shaky head 2 hours ago no action since, it doesnt help that the weeds are horrible I cant crank, I can barely use jigs without getting caked in weeds
  9. Wait, so this whole time its not baits or presentation I'm doing wrong? Its that I only have access to one point on the lake... Guess this city aint cut out for ahore fishermen (theres no open shores its only housing along the banks with fenced backyards and lake simcoe is not any better Northern canadian bass problems...
  10. @Scarborough817Actually I don’t think there are Any weeds on the other side of the boat launch that’s where I’ve had many of my good crankbaits stuck and lost on rocks only ever seen small perch being caught there
  11. @Scarborough817 I tried fishing there a few times I haven't seen any bass in there and I stopped fishing there because it was just too weedy, shallow and seems quite dead
  12. Hey guys I need a lot of help as I am going to quit fishing if I don't catch at least one bass over 2lbs by winter, anyways what would be the best way to shore fish in lake simcoe/kempenfelt bay as this is officially the only body of water that is fishable from a shore angler in Barrie any help is appreciated.
  13. I have a old southbend proton reel and just today I was fishing with it and after my 7th cast it suddenly started clicking whenever I turned the handle to retrieve if I turn off antireverse then the clicking stops but it would take months to get used to holding the spool while setting the hook ive tried taking it apart but found no problems never was able to get the sound to stop it is something to do with the inside of the rotor, info: line:50lb J-Briad rod:4'5" casting rod heavy fast action (I have no spare spinning rods) reel southbend proton, PTW-35/B-X, 5:1 GR, 1 ball bearing
  14. 1: I don't happen to have a squarebill and cant buy one/anything for a few months 2:my cats ended up destroying my jig a while ago (ripped skirt and my dog almost ate the led) 3:i can try fishing the mtb baits but they are all exclusive and I have a big problem with getting jerk baits stuck on rocks (other 2 are topwater)
  15. hey guys I just received my mtb (august 2017) box and every lure in it is too big to catch fish from shore (in my city atleast) and I was wondering... what do you do with oversized lures, I don't want to waste them so just what do I do. if you guys are wondering it has: a topwater frog that is as big as my palm (I'm 14) a topwater popper that is about 5" and is probably about 3/4 of an inch wide. a jerkbait that is exactly 4" and a bunch of soft plastics and hooks (these are small enough) in my area (barrie, ON) you cant catch big fish from shore unless your lucky so these lures are just attrocious overall just what do you do with oversized lures
