  1. PhishLi, Oh yeah I know the WP 130 is asking too much of most rods, I normally only through a WP 90. I only got the 130 as a gag and hope that just maybe I can catch a good sized fish when I'm up in Michigan next time, otherwise I try not to throw anything over 3/4 oz.
  2. Fishin' Fool, Jimmyjoe, and Fishtank, if the St. Croix was not on the list. Would any of you suggest any of the other 2 piece rods I have listed or maybe other rods on the market in the same price range. And have you had any experience with any of the the other rods on the list I have above, or any experience with Kastking rods?
  3. Looking at getting a new casting rod. Old one (Berkely lighting rod 7ft med/F 2 piece) broke in spring and I tried just using my spinning setups all summer and some of my favorite lures just didn't feel right, especially when I tried to use my new 130 WP on med/F spinning setup. I have a few rods I think I'd like but no way to actually test them and see if they fit my style, feel comfortable, or have the sensitivity that I'd like. Also I have the issue of being torn between 1 piece or a piece rod set up as I tend to go up to Michigan to fish when we visit the family and the only space I have for my rods is the cargo area of a Chevy equinox. I'm still trying out lures and trying to figure out my comfort lures so far I'm comfortable with whopper plopper style top water lures, deep diving crank baits, tokyo rig with a 7inch BPS curly tail worm in junebug color, 1/4oz blade bait. What I'm looking for: preferably <$100 (but I have at least 1 rod I'm interested in that's $140) Preferably 2 piece not sure how I feel about a travel rod (3 to 4 piece), I'm OK with a 1 piece but would like to avoid it if possible. Would like it to be MH/F but I'm open to better suggestions. I'm not sure what a good length should be, I'm thinking 6.6 to 7.3 just not sure though. So far I've narrowed my choices down to: 1 piece rods: Dobyns fury Lews speed stick or Tournament speed stick, can someone with experience with these two rods tell me the difference and not just what the marketing marterial says. Lews Mach rod or Mach 2 rod, again someone with hands on experience tell me what the difference is and is it worth it? *** fishing fate black gen 2 2 piece or travel rods: St croix mojo Bass *** fishing omen black Fenwick HMG travel (which comes with a med and a MH tip) Lastly as options Kastking perige II 2 piece ( either dual tip or single), Royal legend, Speed demon, speed demon pro, Resolute. Thoughts on these rods from hands on usage impressions and preferably compared to the ones above.
  4. My current rods are a cheap 5.5 foot Shakespear reverb combo rod and Cherrywood HD, and I'm looking to get something more substantial for my main gear. Preferably 7.0-foot medium fast, and it needs to be a 2 piece due to trying to fit it in the back seat of my focus. Even though I know the lightning rod is highly suggested for a budget rod, they don't make them in 2-piece. So I was hoping you folks could toss a good selection of suggestions of models that may or may not come in 2-piece.
  5. If you think about it, it's the internet, and more specifically, Amazon. Because of places like Gander mounter, dicks, Cabela, bass pro shop, they all have to maintain multiple over heard locations, between the cost of the HQ building, the main store, all the "sub" stores through out US and Canada, plus warehousing. If Abu Garcia, Daiwa, Shimano, Pflueger, etc. plus Amazon only have to keep a warehouse stocked and a website running. Who do you think is going to win in the price/profit wars? It's ok for people like me where the nearest Gander mountain and dicks is a 1.5-hour drive, and the nearest Cabelas, BPS, Academy, and one other is 100 miles away. With online purchasing I can still get all the good brands, the downside though, I can't feel before I buy.
  6. Thanks for the welcome!
  7. Good day everyone. Name's Ken, and I'm from St. Marys Ohio. I used to fish when I was younger, grandpa used to make his own jigs and poles before he died. After that, me and some friends would usually go fishing as many days as we could during the summer, but as we grew up we started getting lazy and playing video games. Fast forward to last year, found out my wife liked fishing with her dad, so we Bought 2 Shakespear reverb spinning combos for $10/ea. And, being a techy guy I started to see the sonar bobbers so I had to get one as well. NOw, I just try to fish if I can, but being 30, working 50+hours a week, plus starting a family, and going back to college part time, I'm only able to fish maybe 3 months out of the year, but most likely only about a month. My primary fishing holes are my uncle's pond, just a small country pond that's maybe 40x20x12 feet with half of it being 5 feet deep or less, but he currently has it stocked with Largies, smallies, striped, catfish, grass carp, and some non-biting panfish. Otherwise, I'll try to fish The Miami Erie canal, Grand lake st. marys, Lake Loramie. With my wife being from Michigan, we go up sometimes to Austin lake and crystal lake ( just haven't fished at either of them yet). I usually and always have fished panfish mostly crappie and blue gill, but I would like to get into bass fishing more, and just panfish on those really bad days where it seems nothing is biting. But, I'd also like to try and catch some walleye, saugeye, and some bigger fish around the area. Just because. Currently, I'm fighting with myself over getting better gear than my reverb combos, especially the spincaster it's horrible, and I'm thinking of getting baitcasting setup, but also debating if I should upgrade my spinner combo to something more substantial, and possibly get an ultralight spinner setup just for playing with panfish, and let the wife keep using her reverb combo. So, I'm here to try and get some unbiased input of gear selection, some tips, and tricks as well as purchasing advice, and maybe make some new fishing buddies. Also, BR team, The bass resource logo in the top left corner, covers up the all the buttons up in that corner, I had to use google to get to the sign-up web page. Every time I try to click on something to do with my forum account it just takes me back to the home page, I've tried this on Mozilla Firefox and chrome.
