  1. So I’m starting to get into drop shooting and going to try it this weekend. I will be fishing on Lake Erie but shallow area. I’ll be fishing in depths of 5-10 ft max . There are some vegetation starting to grow on the bottom but not a lot. Wondering how long I should put the weight and hook apart. Should it just Be a few inches ? Or go like 12 -15 inches so it hovers over the grass a little more.. also some good baits to start out with would be helpful thanks everyone. I have been trying to do as much research as possible myself also.
  2. How do you use the leader or tie it ? Do you use a long like 3 foot leader or a short one ? I have never tied a leader on before so not sure of the best knot. I was going to use 8 pound fluoro for a leader or main line. @Joshua van Wyk @fishin fool
  3. First spinning setup. More pics as they come in! Woohoo
  4. So after seeing these guys crush smallmouth on a ned rig and dropshot I figured I would finally bite the bullet. I got a ALX trickster and the new daiwa Procyon Lt. can’t wsit for them to come in. Never used a spinning tee so any advice would be helpful. Should I use just braid ? Or just fluoro. Lake Erie is extremely clear water so I was thinking fluoro. I have never done braid to a lewder before so any advice on that would help also ! Bait monkey always biting
  5. He was super helpful and told me to get the zolo trickster
  6. What size reel to. Idk the difference between a 2000 or 2500 .. I don’t want something huge and heavy but also need enough room for line
  7. So I only own casting rods and I’m looking to get my first spinning. Guys on the water today were crushing everyone and probbsly caught around 50-80 bass.. using ned rigs and drop shots, all slow fineness. Wondering what rod would be good for these and his .. wondering rod length, taper, action etc. braid for these or fluoro? I’ll be fishing super clear water , can see 5 ft +.. looking for rod and reel. Budget is around 150-200$ for rod and 100-150 for reel .. would rather have a nice light sensitive rod to detect strikes on the finesse. Stuff
  8. Ok thank you , I figured that was the case @WRB @KDW96
  9. So I was fishing keitechs on a exposed hook and would catch around 5 fish per bait before they rip or fall off. Now I heard of super glueing them but never have. If you super glue the bait to the hook doesn’t it just rip apart everywhere else then and leave goop of plastic and stuff on your hook ? Like how do you get the bait completely off and eventually put a new one on if it’s been glued on? Does it come off clean .. some help please and thank you
  10. That looks awesome thank you! Perfect
  11. I’m sorry to hear and see that. I hope the rain stops soon
  12. Oh yeah .. I hate that “oh your a northerner” and your welcome in NY for some big brown brutes anytime
  13. I’m a northerner but I have respect Sorry I had to vent. They can close this thread. Sorry
  14. Sooo I was out today and sadly all the “fisherman” and out of towners are comming in hoards on Lake Erie. I don’t mind other people fishing but the amount of rude disrespect people astound me. I hahve been fishing since ice out to try and figure out what the fish want and where. And do all my research to get the bite. So I get out there and notice nobody catching fish .. so I go to where I know they are and use what’s I know works and then boats just start comming over. This one boat literally was 10 feet from me. Casting in my direction. They literally run the boat exactly over the area I was casting and scared the fish. SO I go to another spot and they follow me ! THey kept following me the whole time till I said something. Then they had the nerve to ask what I was using. Every single person came up to me and said “hey what are you using “ nobody tried to talk or introduce the slee for bed be nice. They just wanted to fish where I was and know exactly what I’m using. I’m all for helping but I take the time to find out what is working first. I’m also polite and make small tslk and introduce myself .. then the other kayakers were out and just rowing all over. Once again this one guy is just coasting right over the area I’m casting! I casted my line probably within 2 feet of him where it almost landed on him and he just says “hey what you using let me know “ ... no go away. Uuugghhhh man people have no respect .. nobody wanted to fish they just want to know what I’m using. And to take over the area I’m in .. Lake Erie is big , go someone that’s not 10 feet from me and not fan casting all around my kayak please
  15. Just some beautiful brown bass again !
  16. Sooo the bottom structure is starting to get vegetation on it and I can’t throw regular tubes heads anymore for smallmouth. Wondering if anyone has tried those weedless tube heads? Where the hook kinda points back in? Have they worked well or what’s the best option for a weedless tube for smallies
  17. That is the worst case of bass thumb I have ever seen. I had a 72 fish day once and it’s wasn’t even that bad. Congrats !! Hah
  18. I would say 4-5 pounds.
  19. Can’t wait to see them pics man! I love those brown giants. I’ll be at the ramp Saturday -Monday so I understand haha. 4.2 is still a nice smallies. And it’s jsut a little trial and error. Everyone throws the same thing so I try to be different. Right now everyone is tossing jerkbaits and lipless. So I was using jerkbaits silent , and swimbaits and out produced.
  20. I have been setting the hook harder , like a soft plastic hard hookset .. maybe that’s why ? @Wildbillb
  21. So as the titles says. I’m not sure what to throw my swimbaits on either my MH/F action or my M/XF .. I’m using 3.8 and 4.3 keitechs for smallmouth in shallow water. Using swimbait heads with an open hook. I was using my M/XF but I felt like I missed to many fish or they were barely hooked.. not sure if maybe. I could go to a heavier rod or just how it goes with swimbaits. And wonder what line . I was using 12 pound floro but broke off once and wonder if maybe 14 would be better. Maybe @A-Jay could chime in to.
  22. We had a crazy warm front yesterday with Temps hitting 81! That warmed the lake to around 50-51 degrees and boy did it pay off. Had a SW wind turn into NW only blowing around 5-8 mph all day. It was a wonderful day to be out. Caught about 50 smallmouth all day. Here are a few of them, oh and let’s play a game.... see if you can spot the swimbait... I think I found what they wanted.
  23. I’m wondering if they have a Memorial Day sale so I can figure out what’s to save for .. was hoping they had a spring one but no luck
  24. No brown bass today, the heavy high winds comming from the north stopped that , but we didn’t manage some nice green brutes. Along with this 6,10 oz beauty
  25. Water clarity still isn’t very good. I used a mixture of both till I find what works. And you will get some bigger ones @Derek1 have faith
